I'm really excited about the Sonic Franchise making a comeback. Both in the games and movies/tv shows. I also like how they are trying to properly connect the games and clean up the story events as well. Sega hired Ian Flynn, who actually was a comic book writer for the Archie Sonic comics. He wasn't there at the very beginning, but came to work on the Sonic comics later on. He's one of the good writers that understand the Sonic characters, how to write good characters, and understands the games. There are some that aren't a fan of his writing. But from what I've seen so far, it's good. The fact that he actually got the chance to write the story for Sonic Frontiers was pretty cool. It's also nice that he also wrote the story for the animated shorts for Sonic Frontiers and Shadow: Dark Beginnings, and of course Shadow Generations story in the game.
I've been pleased with the quality of current Sonic media as a long time fan. Hopefully, the 3rd movie will be good, though I am a bit nervous about how it will turn out
All hail Jeff Fowler for doing what every director should but doesn't do. Listen to the audience and givethem what they want Ps. Sonic Colors has the best OST. 🎶 👑
Much like my favorite NFL team, the Washington Redskins (Commanders), Sonic's future is looking very bright, as there is definitely a new energy throughout both franchises. I look forward to game releases the most when it comes to Sonic, but there has been a decent amount of good content around the franchise in different mediums. I have been a fan of Sonic for 20 years and I've seen a good number of ups and downs (much like the Skins), however there is a real sense of growth and focus when it comes to where Sonic is now. Still some issues with certain projects that have recently come out, but stuff like the Shadow Generations portions of Sonic x Shadow Generations, from what I have played so far, is awesome. I'm looking forward to more stuff like that (along with Dark Beginnings), with more originality, polish, and care. Sonic is on the rise, and I love it. Hail to the Redskins and never underestimate Sonic speed!
stumbled across this channel again after 2 years, lol. but it’d be interesting to hear what your take on nostalgia bait in movies and media would be like in its own video. although nostalgia bait in media has been around for quite some time, i feel like there definitely has been a rise in popularity in recent years, especially after Spiderman No Way Home released in theaters back in 2021. I feel like ever since, we’ve had almost everything be reliant on cameos and nostalgia to sell product. even at the cost of good writing in most modern movies/shows.
Sonic was supposed to have a human love interest way back in the 1st game, after seeing the reaction for Elise relationship with him, we apparently dodged a bullet.
At least in recent years, Sonic is able to recover from his past failures. Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon on the other hand, will most likely NEVER be able to do the same
Sega was so smart when they listened to fans for the movie. I literally only went to the first movie cause they listened when fans said it looked stupid, money where my mouth is lol.
What also helps is that the director of all three Sonic movies, Jeff Fowler, actually worked on the cutscenes for Shadow the Hedgehog back in the mid-2000's. So he was always in the franchise.
I've been a Sonic fan since watching the Adventures and SatAM cartoons (in that order) along with the Archie comics. The games came later once I was old enough to get a game console but was well worth the wait. Sonic's journey in media was active and questionable at times like with Sonic Unleashed and Shadow The Hedgehog. With rumors of a Sonic movie years ago, I wanted to see to a movie that connects to SatAM rather than just one of the games itself in the case of storytelling. A lot of ideas were left behind after SatAM's cancelation due its viewer count going to OG Power Rangers and yet there were some interesting but intense stories involving SatAM with the Archie comic series that kept the legacy of the show still going years later. When Sony announced back 2014 during E3 that they were doing a official Sonic movie, I was truly excited but cautious at the same. I wanted to see my blue blur get his do's and NOT end up another failure like Super Mario Bros and Max Payne. Sonic's movie project went quiet by the following years until 2018 that Paramount had bought the rights to the franchise from Sony due to an expiration date. With the film back in production and set for a release date 2019, I was truly excited about the project and what the storyline of it was going to be about. I knew that it would have elements from both games and possibly shows like SatAM or Adventures not counting X. There is a hint of the Adventures Robotnik theme in the first movie FYI. By April 2019, the film dropped its first official trailer and was met with criticism involving Sonic's design which came not just from Sonic fans, but everyday movie goers and media buffs. The backlash for Sonic's previous design was so bad that director Jeff Fowler did the one thing no one in Hollywood would do, listen to the audience. Instead of attacking/shaming fans or movie goers on the net like others have with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Fowler took what was "constructive criticism" and made an announcement via a post on X saying that he heard the criticisms and wants to do right by the fans of the series. Because of this action, the film was delayed until February 2020 for Sonic's re-design to happen and by November (which was the film's original release date), the trailer dropped online and was meet with such prise and excitement from all walks of life. Sadly, the studio that did Sonic's re-design along other future characters shut its doors before the end of that year so its thanks to them that Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and now Shadow look close to their video game counterparts. By February 2020, the 1st movie fianlly released and made double than what previously expected due Jeff's selfless action. Beating out Birds of Prey and-the-whatever-its-long-title-is at the box office the following weekend. Proving the point of when you don't attack or shame people/fans online for not like something but hearing their criticisms out, you get a return investment in your projects. Something both LucasFilm and Marvel fail to understand and recognize about. Because of the 1st movie's success, other Sonic movies were coming in the near future which led to Sonic 2, Knuckles show and soon Sonic 3. Keanu Reeves as Shadow himself is a fan's dream come true, something me and many others had after Sonic 1. Jeff is doing what not many others have done which listens to the fans and give the audience what they want which shows Fowler having more respect and integrity than compared to those like Rian Johnson or James Mangold. I just hope that Paramount will consider doing other SEGA titles into films like Vector Man or even Golden Axe and not playing it safe with just doing Sonic projects. Paramount already has its own MCU in the form of Sega so hopefully they realize that just as Universal did with The Super Mario Bros Movie last year which is thanks to Sonic's first movie that "almost" ended the video game movie curse😎🤘🎬 🎞 🏆🎉🍻💰
There are other characters from the IDW comics I hope get some love from this resurgence as well like Tangle, Wisper, Surge, and Kitsunami. Though I wonder if I’m the only one asking were is Metal Sonic?
IF MY BOY OMEGA GETS A SPIN OFF I WOULD BE SO HAPPY Seeing Knuckles done justice brought so much happiness, but the idea of my other fave getting time to shine as well is just… Fam, sign me up!
Another advantage was that, unlike other companies, SEGA and Paramount respected the legacy of their beloved characters and avoided inserting political agendas or hidden propaganda.
The crazy thing, the first movie isn't even good. It's pretty generic and lame, actually. (Not as bad as the Knuckles show however, which was clearly just a completely separate IP with Knuckles shoehorned into a random sitcom.) The first movie only succeeded because the director listened to the fans and changed ugly Sonic.
A lot of things with Sonic really flanderize his and the others characters quite a bit. I feel the film does this by making him "the kid" and he really doesn't have that overall an A-hole with a good heart. I also find it odd that many so-called fans complain about Amy Rose, and that she is just "Girl" when they've striped every facet of her character to just being the "girl". In this movie she is no where and she is the one that helps Shadow realize Maria's final wish and getting through his rage, as well as rescuing Sonic out of GUN prison which they just got rid of. Ian Flynn; a current writer for the comics loves shoe-horning his OCs over the core cast and is in charge of writing for the games forcing Sonic to mention them as well, along with writing more dialog in the rerelease of Generations along with again, removing character interactions because it's not what the Western side wants.
Concerning the absence of Amy in the movie, I think it's important to realize that the movie universe is different from the games and that this isn't ''Sonic Adventure 2: The Movie''. There's already some clear differences in this version such as Gerald being alive and Eggman and Sonic teaming up before the ending meaning this will be a different take on Shadow's story. But otherwise, yeah I wish they had found better ways to use Amy's energetic go-getter attitude instead of just sanitizing her into ''she likes helping people and Sonic but she's modest about it''.
Not to argue lol but Amy wasn't a BIG part of Shadow's story. I mean yeah, it's thanks to HER that Shadow remembered his promise to Maria. In fact, if it wasn't for Amy helping Shadow remember his promise, the earth would have been doomed. I will admit that. But I wouldn't say that she's a major part of his story. Not even friends. After SA2, Shadow and Amy just barley interact with each other. Rouge and Omega are more important to Shadow's story. After all, they are Team Dark. But going back to Amy, I would love to see her in the movie too! Sadly, if she's not, I wouldn't be surprise if Tom was the one to help Shadow remember his promise to Maria. In the Sonic X anime, the writers (for some dumb reason), took Amy's role from the game and gave it to Chris. So Chris is the one who helped Shadow remember his past. I didn't like that change, because that was one of Amy's biggest accomplishments she has ever done in the series. Helping Shadow remembering who he was and saving the world. I would REALLY want to see Amy play her part in this movie. But if they give that role to somebody else, I will be a bit disappointed.
I honestly disconnected from Sonic when it went 3D (mostly because our poor home couldn't afford new stuff) so it and most N64 stuff are huge blank areas in my sensibility, but the importance of them can't be denied. The newest one I've played is Mania, since it returned to formula so well and had a BITCHIN' soundtrack~ the movies are a huge thing though, I like this new dimension to the story they've gone with, it's something cool for kids, it's nice that we can STILL HAVE THAT SOMETIMES, Y'KNOW? For those in need of laughs, look up the Knuckles Puppet Cut, for the show they did? They had a very articulate Knuckles muppet on deck for the actors to bounce off of and it is hilarious to watch.
If there is one thing Sega can be respected for.....for better or worse is listening. No matter which era I notice Sega paying attention and trying to appeal to where the tide goes. Sadly sometimes they don't listen i.e. Archie fans but to be fair that's a legal issue. Every era someone at Sega listened to complaints and tried to course correct often ending badly. Too many friends, gone, humans not fitting in, gone, romance causing too many fights, gone, storyline too dark or wordy gone. Storyline too silly, gone. I have seen 30 plus years of Sonic unfocused yet focused at the same time. He stumbles but carries on. That's why I stayed with the franchise though I miss the Archie gang.
Nah Shadow Generation is a expansion not a game and Shadow was rushed to the third movie they want to rushed Silver even though they skipped Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure 1 they can’t adapt Sonic 06 without Amy Rose Rouge the Bat E-123 Omega and Blaze the Cat Silver’s partner 💀
I fundamentally and emphatically disagree with the notion that Sonic's return to form should be attributed to the movies, rather than the intense dedication of Shun Nakamura and Morio Kishimoto, who delivered the recent sonic games that have raised the bar for 3D sonic gameplay almost back to where it used to be. I'd sooner give Ian Flynn credit for Sonic's uptick in story quality, who's been dutifully writing the amazing IDW comics for years, and has brought that same energy to the games starting with frontiers. at this point the only thing holding him back are SEGA's ridiculous mandates, like Amy not being allowed to openly love sonic anymore. I'm gonna be real J, this video feels way under-researched compared to what you usually put out. I was kind of shocked that you felt the need to bring up sonic 06 and boom, which are so far past their relevance that I'd only expect a games journalist to use them as an example of Sonic's downward trajectory, rather than the more recent sonic lost world and sonic forces, which while still years old, much more directly correlate to Sonic's most recent lapse in quality, which has been marked by the de-emphasizing of Sonic's extended cast, 'meta' humor at the expense of character, and an overall ignorance of the series' history that leads to moments like tails cowering in fear of Chaos 0. (A straight line that can be traced back to Sonic Colors, but don't mention that or people will crucify you) It may seem harsh and petty to nitpick a video that's meant to be a celebration of Sonic's resurgence, something we're all elated about, but I couldn't help myself since I've seen you put out much better content in the past, and I know you're capable of better and so much more.
Sega recently hired Ian Flynn to work on the games and I think he's really overpraised. He constantly has characters make shallow references that dont make sense in context and he seems to either not understnad or be actively trying to retcon some characters personalities. Especially amy. But he seems to be getting unreal praise and I think it's because people are desparate.
I am going to throw in my negative sent here. With what SXSG did to Amy and Rouge i don't want them in the third move. game did the best girls so dirty.
I'm not playing SxS:G. It censored parts of its original counterpart, and the fact they did it to the game featuring my favorite hedgehog, was what really got under my skin. I'm staying as far away from it as possible.
They changed rouges back a little bit which if you don’t want to see you don’t have to and everything else is In cutscenes cutscenes you can skip it’s a great game and you should play it the censorship isn’t that big of a deal unless you are in love with rouge
They’ve come so far with butt jokes and fart jokes and other cringeworthy dialogue and they haven’t surpassed the Super Mario Bros movie because Paramount doesn’t allow them to surpass it.
@ To get to 1 billion you have to manage the movies in a way that makes it so they give fans what they want. You have to make a REAL SONIC MOVIE experiment to get to 1 billion. You can’t give us a fake Ass Sonic and get 1 billion dollars even with the shadow hype. Nope. It won’t happen with Sonic 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 nor 10 considering how they are managing the movies. The Super Mario Bros movie got over 1 billion because it gave fans what they wanted. A Mario movie that feels like the games. The Super Mario Bros movie actually feels authentic unlike the Sonic movies.

Sonic the Hedgehog 🦔 2 was awesome 😎
I've been pleased with the quality of current Sonic media as a long time fan. Hopefully, the 3rd movie will be good, though I am a bit nervous about how it will turn out
Always a fan of chao garden, best part of adventure 2.
All hail Jeff Fowler for doing what every director should but doesn't do. Listen to the audience and givethem what they want
Ps. Sonic Colors has the best OST. 🎶 👑
The movies made me a Sonic fan, so I am all in for more of it. I'm confident that the third film will be just as good as the last two.
Hey. Luv your vids
While he wasn’t in it much, I am SO GLAD Emerl was included in the Dark Beginnings prologue.
stumbled across this channel again after 2 years, lol. but it’d be interesting to hear what your take on nostalgia bait in movies and media would be like in its own video.
although nostalgia bait in media has been around for quite some time, i feel like there definitely has been a rise in popularity in recent years, especially after Spiderman No Way Home released in theaters back in 2021.
I feel like ever since, we’ve had almost everything be reliant on cameos and nostalgia to sell product. even at the cost of good writing in most modern movies/shows.
I expect to see more retrospectives on Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as Shadow once the new film comes out (and is good 🙏🙏🙏).
I swear if they don't make a Shadow show about him being created then being like a sort of guardian to Maria I'm going to flip out
Sonic was supposed to have a human love interest way back in the 1st game, after seeing the reaction for Elise relationship with him, we apparently dodged a bullet.
At least in recent years, Sonic is able to recover from his past failures.
Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon on the other hand, will most likely NEVER be able to do the same
thankyou sega for not letting your franchise die like other companies.
Good redemption story for sonic
Amy is actually coming to third movie.
The Engoodening of Sanic the Hodgeheg
Not really a Sonic player but I enjoyed the movies.
All i heard was, 'Drink Vodka'. Well OK You are the boss.
Who's excited for Sonic 3? 🤘🤘🤘
I can’t wait for Sonic 3
I wish they made a smash bros movie. Thats what i want. The people who made the sonic series. Have them do smash.
Anyone else remember Sonic For Hire?
Sega was so smart when they listened to fans for the movie. I literally only went to the first movie cause they listened when fans said it looked stupid, money where my mouth is lol.
I'm more excited for Sonic 3 than anything the MCU is crapping out
You got my subscription
Now just needs some good games with that. Dream Team was definitely in the right direction.
Great video, and taught me some facts that i didn’t even consider myself (like the og game having slow parts)
But mam i think you look pretty 😅
Nice video
👍👍👍👍
Paramount has used masterful marketing tactics with Sonic.
also helps they hired people who actually like the IP. Unlike the people who did the Halo show lol
There are other characters from the IDW comics I hope get some love from this resurgence as well like Tangle, Wisper, Surge, and Kitsunami.
Though I wonder if I’m the only one asking were is Metal Sonic?
IF MY BOY OMEGA GETS A SPIN OFF I WOULD BE SO HAPPY
Seeing Knuckles done justice brought so much happiness, but the idea of my other fave getting time to shine as well is just…
Fam, sign me up!
Another advantage was that, unlike other companies, SEGA and Paramount respected the legacy of their beloved characters and avoided inserting political agendas or hidden propaganda.
Says the commenter with a fairly apparent dogwhistle...
Naoto oshima created sonic. Yuji naka programmed the game and took the credit
All thanks go to Tyson Hesse 😌
Lets also hope WB also fix the ya know the so called Not Minecraft Movie 2025 with the actor that plays Not Steve aka Jack Black oof lol XD
I don't think they will unfortunately 😢 the movie was already delayed since it was originally gonna release March 4th
@@johnsonsharon81 Ohhh atleast they are learning from there mistake of dealing with a big game like minecraft
They should remake/remaster sonic heroes or sonic unleashed first before 06'
The crazy thing, the first movie isn't even good. It's pretty generic and lame, actually. (Not as bad as the Knuckles show however, which was clearly just a completely separate IP with Knuckles shoehorned into a random sitcom.) The first movie only succeeded because the director listened to the fans and changed ugly Sonic.
I will judge the "So Far" when I see Rouge the Bat on screen, haha ..... :D
I miss Papa Sonic from the old comics. I honestly don't see him and Amy ever having a son and daughter.
@@MegaGlassguy Still feels like missing a key element.
Screw yall .the. darkage

(A straight line that can be traced back to Sonic Colors, but don't mention that or people will crucify you)
It may seem harsh and petty to nitpick a video that's meant to be a celebration of Sonic's resurgence, something we're all elated about, but I couldn't help myself since I've seen you put out much better content in the past, and I know you're capable of better and so much more.
Jet the Hawk needs to be in the spotlight
Sega recently hired Ian Flynn to work on the games and I think he's really overpraised. He constantly has characters make shallow references that dont make sense in context and he seems to either not understnad or be actively trying to retcon some characters personalities. Especially amy. But he seems to be getting unreal praise and I think it's because people are desparate.
He’s not over praised. If anything he’s overhated by people like you. How is making Amy not a creepy stalker that Sonic avoids a bad thing?
@@rouge939 Because that''s not what Amy is like, and you don't get to retroactively rewrite a character because you don't like them.
The way he writes Amy is how Sega wants her to be in the west. That's just the direction.
If you want accuracy, it'd have to be in sub
Laughable

@ To get to 1 billion you have to manage the movies in a way that makes it so they give fans what they want. You have to make a REAL SONIC MOVIE experiment to get to 1 billion. You can’t give us a fake Ass Sonic and get 1 billion dollars even with the shadow hype. Nope. It won’t happen with Sonic 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 nor 10 considering how they are managing the movies. The Super Mario Bros movie got over 1 billion because it gave fans what they wanted. A Mario movie that feels like the games. The Super
Mario Bros movie actually feels authentic unlike the Sonic movies.
