This Clever Tomato Trellis Will Change Your Life...

Hello and welcome to That British Homestead
Today we are looking at the tomatoes, as you may know I am growing a TON of tomatoe. 73 different tomatoes and 62 different varieties, I CAN'T WAIT! So today we are trimming and trellising the tomatoes.
We start off at the house where we trim the tomatoes on the metal trellis, we always grow tomatoes at home as we like the look of the tomatoes, for us they are very ornamental plants. Also it is MUCH less likely for us to get blight at home compared to a busy allotment where pest and diseases thrive.
I am cutting the tomatoes to 2 lead branches and removing all suckers and leaves that will touch the ground. This is very important to allow the fruit to ripen and to ensure good air flow. This will prevent blight, I also allow more room between the plants to enable good air flow.
Then we are off to the allotment where were are building the trellis for the tomatoes, We are growing a LOT more tomatoes at the allotment. We are crating the bambo A frame from Allie at The Right Pear Plot / @therightpearplot She is growing some epic tomatoes!
We are using cable ties to hold up bamboo canes and tieing the tomatoes up woth twine. We are triming the again to remove all but 2 suckers, and anything that is touching the floor, this will help to reduce diseases.
I am so excited to have this job done however, we will be repeating the triming every week or so1 happierly we have so many flowers and some tiny fruit! I cant wait till the tomatoes start to come in. I can almost taste them tomatoes! Its been a year since we have had a fresh tomato!

Thank you! You too! its cooled down so much here that im wearing thick trousers and a hoody today! im kinda over the extension now, just moved the kitchen into the living room, soon ill have no utility room, living room or kitchen! i am not looking forward to it!
