I use Ls2 gear (jacket, pants, gloves) and pretty impressed at the quality/price ratio.

@@SandStormPower I sell motorcycle gear for a living and I have to say, LS2 has come a long way. Their stuff from a few years ago was straight trash and we didn't recommend it but honestly, they make some good stuff for the $$ these days. I had a 22.05 FF805 Thunder Carbon and crashed in it back in December. One of the lightest full face helmets on the the market, it's quiet for a track helmet, comes with heaps of goodies, has an amazing visor change mechanism where you don't even need to take the helmet off, the front vents are shit and LS2 need to invert the vent vanes to get any actual air flow but it's a good lid. After my crash, I'd put my head back in one. It's just a slightly more bulbous shell than other helmets
Most of the mid range and top shell LS2 gear is definitely competing with Arai, Shoei, Suomy, HJC, AGV, and such.

I knew a guy years ago who told me he had been out riding at night with a buddy. His buddy crashed so he turned around a mile down the road but came back and could not find him. He had slid across the road and off the road into a field on the other side. When the police found him with their lights, he had been wearing a 1/2 helmet , he had no face left at all. Completely gone. He said after he saw him , he never rode again.

On a mountain road I ran wide on a left hand corner, dropped a wheel off the edge of the curb and when I pulled the bike back onto the road it launched me into a major high side. I probably traveled at least ten feet before I landed on my face and my shoulder. I was wearing a full face AGV K6 helmet and an Alpinestars Tech 5 vest. I ended up with some vertigo from a mild concussion, and a torn thumb ligament from the handlebars. My face was fine, my shoulder was fine. I just shudder now when I see riders with no helmet or a half helmet imagining what my face would have looked like had in been wearing one of those.

And driving a car generally provides better protection than riding a bike. Best of all is just work from home, get your stuff delivered, and don’t leave the house. It is all a matter of what risks you are willing to accept. I don’t look down on anyone for their risk choices and certainly would never call their choice in headgear “stupid”. Great job and solid results. Thank you for testing and the work you put behind it. Unfortunately those states that have zero helmet laws. I get it.. the feel of the wind like a bicycle when we were all kids. But 40mph does this amount of damage and then it raises the insurance for us all. Safety is critical and should always be used. One would hope it's common sense.

Plus, the feel of the wind in your hair is nice only when riding at bicycle speed. As soon as you go faster (and I'm talking about normal speed, not racing speed) you'll love the protection of a full face helmet.
I'm a newbie rider and was pretty scared at the beginning. I have to say that that changed when I switched to full face helmet + motorcycle jacket and trousers. I feel much more confident and safe now.

Great video. Personally i guessing most, (not all but most), folks that wear half helmets are doing so just because their states have helmet laws and wouldn't wear one at all if they could. I'm glad you made this video for any of the other people that actually think a half helmet waould protect you from anything more then falling over when you are at a complete stop. Is my full face helmet comfortable, not really as it is kinda heavy after an hour of riding, but at least if i hit something my brain will still be in my skull. Now if i could just convince myself to wear any other sort of gear i would probably be doing much better. Thinking about getting one of those backpacks with airbags as they just look like a backpack but it has airbags. Thanks for the informative video as always.

My full face Arai helmet saved my life as I was riding on the highway traveling about 70-75 mph, when a passenger from a vehicle in front of me in the left lane decided it was a great idea to throw a battery out of the window which bounced off the ground at a high speed and hit my helmet. The impact in my helmet sounded just like a helmet to helmet contact of football helmets. Rung my bell and had to pull over. If I were wearing my half helmet i would have died. I only wear my half helmet to ride locally. Full-face at all times for long trips or riding on the highway.

I researched helmets when I started to ride (late in life about 15 years ago. It did not take me long to learn the first part of the head to land on the ground is likely to be your face. I went modular and feel like it is sufficient protection. I also wear armored jackets, gloves, long pants (usually armored) and boots. My educated guess is I am in the 1% of riders who fully gear up. Once, in hot weather someone asked me if I was feeling the heat. My reply was I would rather sweat than bleed. I would say with the second impact here this would be a dead rider.

In 1972 i started riding with an open face but soon after i bought a full face Eldorado helmet. Couldnt afford Bell which were the leading ff helmets then.
I had a crash into the back of a table top truck. Apart from breaking my arm and leg i went face first into something solid and broke my jaw and facial bones under my right eye.
The chin piece of the helmet had split from the impact. My surgeon told me point blank that the ff helmet had saved my life by absorbing and distributing the impact until it gave way. There were also stress marks in the fiberglass where the force had been absorbed from front to half towards the back of the helmet. He said i would have died from more severe head injuries otherwise.

I’m pretty sure most people don’t think wearing one of these half-helmets is about protection. It’s about compliance with the law. Most people who wear one of these, probably wouldn’t wear one at all if they didn’t have to. I started riding in 1963 and until the California law said I had to in 1990 I never wore a helmet. up untill five years ago, I never wore anything but a “novelty“ helmet. I must say, all this time I’ve been very lucky and haven’t ever had much more than a tumble on the street or the dirt. I recently went and bought a nice flip-front full-face Schuberth helmet, and after riding with that, I will probably never go back to the “novelty“helmet. My rationale, for that is, my little novelty helmet was starting to flake foam, and after wearing that full face helmet, all the wind noise I experienced with the straps on the novelty helmet were gone And I’m sure it does make me officially “safer” if I ever do take a spill. I’m 68 years old, and even dumping my dirtbike in the woods takes a little more recovery than it used to. Peace out y’all! Keep the rubber side down, shiny, side up!✌️😎

Thank you got doing this followup, some good stuff here and a much more realistic accident scenario (in my opinion). Hitting a vertical wall is a "worst case scenario" in most cases AND (thank the gods) it has never happened to me after one of my crashes. What might be more realistic is the performance difference between helmets in a more common accident mode where the rider slides (sometimes on his head and face) along the pavement.
    To address this video:
I would like to see the results of a dummy wearing a full face helmet slammed into a tool box exactly as you did with the dummy wearing the half-helmet. I'm sorry, but in my opinion, the two videos are not comparable. I greatly suspect that in each case the results would be fatal, only the full face helmet would make an "Open Casket" funeral (if they still do that anymore) more practical. I would not be --- ah -- Caught Dead -- not wearing my full face helmet, but I have to admit that even a half helmet would save your life in most normal street crashes on city streets and for those Harley, bad boy, Riders, they're way better than NOTHING (which is what they would wear if they legally could).

I ride with a full face helmet and I would feed naked and vulnerable without one on. I don't even like those helmets where the front lifts up. Having said that, I was not commenting on whether I care about my life or not, but on the details of your interesting experiments and the fact that, for those who MUST wear a half-helmet (for that "bad boy" image that is so important to them), SOMETHING is better than nothing. As a retired test engineer, I am perhaps too detailed oriented when it comes to experimenting and proving a point.

I crashed my motorcycle at 150 km/h., 90 mph. I don't remember a thing until I was lying on the highway looking up at the sky.
My full-face helmet was scratched & gouged from the chin around to the back of the helmet.
The cop at the emergency room told me, that after I hit the car, which I don't remember, I flew through the air, which I don't remember, tumbled on the highway like a rag doll, and slid for over 100 meters, 120 yards, down the highway, which I don't remember.
That full-face helmet and the gouges out of the chin area proved beyond a doubt my chin would have been shattered if I wasn't wearing it.
BTW- I also wore a full leather body suit and a weight belt on my lower back and other than severe bruising and contusions from friction along any contact points from skidding or tumbling on the pavement, I walked away from it.
    I was one lucky SOB!

The ballistic body-parts must be expensive. Amazing how your toolbox took a direct hit and still looks usable. As a Traffic Investigator and Collision Reconstructionist I can say the full face/head helmet is the way to go for anyone operating/riding a motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV etc. Yet I've never seen a motorcycle traffic fatality where the operator was driving 50mph/80kmh at the time of the collision. Albeit, speed does not cause the actual collision, coupled with driver error speed increases the severity of the crash. Those ballistic body parts look like quite a business.

Many years ago I was in a biker bar in Daytona named the Log Cabin (I think it was). Anyway, there was a picture on the wall of a guy that completely lost his jaw in a motorcycle accident. I said to the lady behind the bar, he wasn't wearing a full face helmet, was he? She said no and stated that "the doctor said it would have been worse had he been wearing a full face helmet". Of course I knew that was bullshit. I never rode a motorcycle, dirt or street without a full face helmet on. Thankfully, those FF helmets saved me a number of times. People have free choice and I respect that. But I find far more reason to wear proper safety gear, than to be 'cool'. Heck, I even have a full face bicycle helmet on, when riding my bike for exercise.
