    New rider here hopefully taking my first Riders Course this coming weekend (4th,5th,6th) and hopefully taking delivery of my bike this week - I can't thank you enough for steering me in the right direction on gear. I've bought the Forma Lows and absolutely love them. I plan to buy the SUMO gloves soon due to the reviews I've read and your recommendation. I got my leather jacket in this past week and have been breaking it in. Can't wait for my bike to get here and get my license. Can't thank you enough for the advice, I know it's saved me a ton of money not buying bs. To be honest - the thing that struck me about you the most is that you're former Marine and I know a Marine will not own products/tools/gear that doesn't work.

    I think it would be important to mention that all motorcycle helmets are DOT certified as they cannot be sold in the US without a DOT sticker. You could cut a coconut in half and put it on your head and it would pass DOT regulations.

      My experience is a perforated one piece suit is good on hot days ( I live in Australia) for long rides if your riding position is more upright. I wear a long sleeve Nike compression top and long leg compression tights that are moisture wicking. When you start to sweat it’s like a sea breeze coming through the perforations and stretch panels. Recently in a sport consignment shop... brand-new helmet (visor stickers still on), perfect fit, cheap (80% off retail). Date of manufacture was 7 years earlier. I thought of grabbing it as a second helmet for me, then opted out. What is a reasonable expectation of life span for a helmet that has never been used?

      @jumpinjee ปีที่แล้ว

      Helmets have a 5 year useful life, period.

    • @Deneteus
      @Deneteus ปีที่แล้ว

      What certs did it have? Was it damaged? If not and it was a highly rated helmet and the material hasn't been damaged then it should be fine. You can get 7-10 years out of a helmet if its not been damaged and the padding/foam hasn't deteriorated. Stored in the right conditions with no damage it should be fine. You could also check for recalls.

    • @jumpinjee
      @jumpinjee ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Deneteus Um no. Every manufacturer condemns a helmet at 5 years, it goes far beyond what you can see and whether it's been dropped or not. Riding a helmet after 5 years is riding on borrowed time. Don't be cheap, your life is worth more than that.

      Most of them have pockets that hold with velcro, but the bigger problem is sometimes knowing which aftermarket armor fits based on the brand.
