Dr Dan, this is an uber-ific video, thank-you so much! Top exercises (I do them all thanks to you) and spot on advice all in under 10 minutes. A must see and hear for all who wish to sing well for life. Best wishes, Lin.
Even though I'm a professional classical soprano, your videos still bring valuable information. In fact, many of the things you are mentioning my voice operatic teachers and coaches speak of as well. There are many basic fundamentals that are universal for the voice and you touch on all of them. Thanks for making these videos and maybe you can make one on how to successfully cross over into different genres - crossover work! :) Ciao
I love your little videos between what you say. ;-) That discouraged guy and the couple dancing... so hilarious! Back to topic, the "straw method" is really my preferred and most efficient one. I also love messa di voce.
Hello Dr, I'm a new subscriber, and a complete newbie to singing, and I'm having hard time trying to understand these basics of singing, like notes, these c,f etc are totally irrelevant to me, and though there are millions of videos here on TH-cam teaching us singing, but no one is telling us what notes are, how to understand, replicate and check if you have replicated it correctly, please clarify these technical terms so, newbies like me without a teacher can understand them,
Thank you, sir, finally i found the word i was searching for, MUSIC THEORY, it solved my problem, and i found a perfect channel for it, butt your channel is still my favorite,...
Ok thanks! Also last question, is it possible for the transitions to change at a higher spot once the voice is more developed? For example can someone be a low with their passagio at c4-f4 but when they develop their whole voice, is it possible for the transitions to shift up to an f4 and a4 makin them a high tenor? Or will the transitions always stay in the same spot regardless how trained or untrained you are?
this is exactly what i needed! at the moment, i feel like my singing is stagnating or even worsening even though i practice every day. also, my throat starts to hurt even if i just sing casually. but this video motivated me to not give up. thank you very much, dr dan!
Hi, Epic Fox. You may find my online singing course helpful - drdan.co/onlinesinginglessons. Feel free to check it out sometime. The first module is free to preview!
Hey Dr. Dan, I used to be a soprano but I stopped singing for a long time and now that I've been practicing, I feel like I can sing really low, but I can still hit some high notes on falsetto. Is there a way for me to figure this out?
so how do i sing like john mayer. he makes it seem effortless. as in how do you find the soul to sing that way. i can kinda sing ok but find it hard to put my entire soul into it. just like guitar. i can hands down play but i almost have feelings of guilt when i try to really put my all into it. ibhave no idea why. zero insecurity of bashfulness or whatever but it drives me crazy only every now n then i can put my all into guitar n singing...but i want to. its a difficult thing to explain u know. like almost laziness or maybe i just havent trained. wish i cud figure it out
Dan I have a question. Since my second passagio is at f4# does that mean my tessitura will be comfortable in the f4-c5 range ? Or will it be more comfortable in the c4-f4 range once my voice is developed? I read that a dramatic tenor (which is a low tenor) has their second passagio at f4# so I'm wonderin once my voice is developed to it's fullest would it be more comfortable to sing in the higher range all that time such as the singers chris brown and jason derulo do? Or would it be more better in the low range ? My voice seems to be more lighter than dramatic tenors so I think I could be a light dramatic tenor but I don't know
But if my transitions are at c4# f4# does that mean I should sing in below f4# the majority of the time? Or is it possible for me to sing in the f4-c5 notes range the majority of the time as how these high tenors do?
hiii sir..im Bishal frm india..my head voice is completely broken..wat should i do..n plz help me to make a perfect pitching..coz my pitching isnt good
Hi Dr Dan I've been singing for 6 months now but stopped practising for nearly 2 months, would my vocal muscles still have muscles it had when I was singing? is 2 months break too long or ok? Also can you do a video about how to do screaming healthy way like metal singers do? thanks
Dan in this video th-cam.com/video/5AFgoLlmlms/w-d-xo.html at 1:15 to 1:25 how does this singer get that yell sound when he sings"Look at all this cash"on the word "ALL" he does that tell sound. It's the same sound that bruno mars and michael jackson do. What is this sound called and how cani learn to do it?
Sir i have a big problem of heartburn and my stomach also feel so heavy ...due to this problem i can't take a long breathe and my vocal come out very less energetic...vocal chords are not working properly.....plz suggest me what should i do...😒😒😒
Dr. Dan I have a question - this is regarding 2 exercises I've seen you teach. 1) The Straw exercise, and 2) The covering of the mouth with your palm (and moving it away from your slowly) exercise. My question is that while doing these, are we supposed to allow our cheeks to "puff out" with air? It happens with me as I go higher considering I've covered my mouth and plugged my nose. But I gather that means I'm pushing too much air. Are my cheeks supposed to stay put and not puff out?

Great advice. thanks. There's some cool videos of the pro singers singing live and unaccompanied which I found quite informative...

Mohit, perhaps you could search YT for a channel that teaches music theory while you continue to develop your singing voice.
