  • Want to become a Rev captioner? In this video, I will show you what a PERFECT caption transcript looks like. I ordered Rev captions for one of my videos, so I can show you what the company expects you to do as a captioner. This may also help you pass the Rev test because you will see how you are supposed to label speakers, background noises, music, atmospherics, and break the speech into caption groups.
You will also get an idea of how to use proper punctuation and break paragraphs into sentences properly.
If you want to order captions from Rev, click on this link and get $10 off your first order: try.rev.com/6cCrGT (referral link)
    Chapters:
    00:00 - Intro
    00:58 - What is captioning/transcription?
01:40 - What do you need to get started?
    02:09 - Rev's updated style guide
04:13 - How to caption lyrics
    05:22 - Atmospherics
    07:31 - Speaker labeling
    09:55 - Caption groups
Note: I am not affiliated in anyway with Rev.com. I have not been sponsored to create this video. However, I used to work as a captioner for Rev and have some experience that I want to share with my subscribers.

    Jennifer:
I thoroughly enjoy your tutorials. They are:
Detailed and succinct with no added fluff
    Clear and easy to understand
    Realistic without outrageous claims
Honest without the common "sin of omission"
You called out the "sin of omission" sites stating captioners could make 20.00 per hour
However, these sites left out pay of 20.00 for "audio hour", not the assumption by most viewers of "clock hour"
You explained that it could take up to 4 "clock hours" to produce one "audio hour" of captions and the real pay was not representative of that claimed
These sites remind me of a common teenage practice of answering questions in a vague manner. The person(s) asking the question was left up to their own devices on how to interpret the answer. This led to "I thought that's what you meant". The addition/subtraction of one word could have made the reply very clear; however, that is not the intent of deception
Many people get curious when they hear a person many times. They want to associate a voice with a face. You modestly revealed your face. A plus for viewers who want to associate a "voice with a face"
#1 is: You don't talk with your hands:)

Thank you so much for your kind words, Rock! Everything you mentioned are things I actively try to do to be as clear as possible to my audience. I'm so glad you noticed and appreciate my style of presentation. :)

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for the great tips. I'm a South African, and want to apply for a Captioning job at rev, but I have challenges with Atmospherics. For example types of music. can you make a video with all music Atmospherics with audio examples.

So if you can visually identify the speaker and their name has been mentioned, e.g Hi Mary. Can you start Mary's sentence with her name as her speaker ID?

Hi Jennifer. Thanks for the great content and tips. I want to place an order for translations too with Rev. I've tried using your referral link, but I'm not getting the $10 discount at checkout. How do I go about using your link?

Hello 👋 I am from India , after watching your transcription videos I tried giving the exam in rev and gotranscript. But I didn't a response from rev since 3 months. Can you please guide me to pass transcription exam ?

    • @JenniferMarieVO

I cannot help you pass any of the exams since that is against the transcription company rules. I recommend to try applying again and await a response from the company. Good luck! :)

How does speaker labelling work when there are people talking but you don't know their names?
    Would it be like:
    - Hey, how are you?
    its been awhile
Do you still have the dog?
    - I've been great
Yes, I have 12 dogs now
    How about you?
