Great video bongo (As always) 👍 I was looking at this model actually for my next big purchase on the FMB-shop, but thanks to your review... Im defenitly not buying model. The base color is just too dark looking in my opinion, not to mention the chrome red tone...
It’s sad that Herpa knew about the colour mess up’s from the sample model, the model was delayed, and still came out with no rectifications… Virgin’s base colour is slightly pearlescent / Shimmery and lighter - which was done beautifully in the 787-9 model you highlighted. Herpa CAN replicate the shimmer / pearlescent effect because the base colour for their new livery Etihad models is very similar (although more gold). But here they cut corners and maybe cost cut and gave us this lifeless grey colour. 🙄 They landed one of the most desirable airline model contracts in 1/500. VS models have hard to get hold of for years! - yet they went a blew it.. so disappointing. Kinda shows even though their client base are avi enthusiasts & model enthusiasts.. herpa doesn’t know much about either subjects. 🤦♂️ .. or maybe they do, they just don’t care enough 🤷♂️😂 Great review! Thanks for validating our frustrations 🙏
Agree….huge miss by Herpa. You can tell the colors are off as soon as you open the box. Luckily I have this model in 1/400 scale by Aviation 400, and it looks sharp.
Look, I also got this model as snapfit from a retailer. But what I did not get is the following: If you present with pictures from online sources that Virgin Atlantic seems not having a unified standard livery on their fleet, HOW can you then take a position and say "These are not the correct colours??" As someone working with Photo & video you should know, that colour calibration and lighting does have a large effect on how we see things being presented to us. But shame back in you not going into detail with the flying icons & flag carrier writing. Seems you've not done your homework, as you've almost omitted the iconic details in the whole livery. I personally hope very much, that Herpa releases the A350k in this perfect livery sometime soon.
I mentioned Virgin Atlantics changing liveries to illustrate the point that for collectors it might be difficult to figure out what the current livery looks like but it is of course not impossible to figure out, what the livery on the aircraft, the model is based upon should look like. And in any case Herpa should know, as they are communicating directly with the airline. As you point out, as some one working with photo and video I did indeed point out (as I always do) that colours change in various light conditions and I even showed the aircraft type in at least 2 different light and weather conditions and yet I was unable to truly replicate the colour palette of the model. You could conclude that reality is wrong or like I did, that Herpa messed up the colours. If you feel like I omitted a detail then I can only apologies but specifically the detail of Britain's flag carrier and even the change in name of the flying icons is something I absolutely did highlight, so I struggle to follow your criticism on that point. Perhaps doing your own homework before claiming others haven't done so would be in order? I do indeed also very much hope that Herpa will be releasing more Virgin Atlantic models and the A350 is, considering comments from the Product Manager, very likely but I do also hope that Herpa, out of respect for their customers, delivers such models with the correct colours.
I bought it and it arrives today
I criticise herpa too but I think the red is not that bad is still too dark but is in margin and the model looks great under light
Yea
