    Update 2024: I now record audio straight to the harddisk of the PC using a headset (step 5), and use file - export - create a video to export to 4K video quality (step 9).

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Pius! Once you have inserted the audio file into the PowerPoint slidedeck, and have the animation sequence "pre-set" on each of the slides (including the animation of the audio starting to play on slide 1), then go to the "Slide Show" tab in the PowerPoint menu, click "Record Slide Show", then "Record from Beginning". That's where you get to play the role of producer/editor, deciding when the next action is to appear on the screen.

    How did you draw the "T"'s for your accounting debits and credits? How did you get that measured grid in the background?

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! The T simply consists of two lines at a 90 degree angle of each other. Insert - Shapes - Line. The grid is made by going to the View menu, and then ticking the box for Guides. You can then put in as many horizontal or vertical guides as you need. They are "sticky" as well, in other words if you drag an object to it, the object will easily attach itself to the guide.

One quick question (sorry, I'm a complete newbie to this whole video thing!) - is it possible to add a short intro of myself speaking ON CAMERA before the Powerpoint presentation begins? • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Anil! Yes, I would advise to try different ways to record the audio. Try recording audio directly to the laptop using a headset, try recording on your mobile phone and then transferring the file, etc. It's very much a trial and error process until you get it right. Some laptop microphones are OK, others have a lot of hiss, background noise and/or echo. Pick the best from what you have available....

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question. I have never tried going back to a previous slide while recording a slide show, and I see no need to do that. As far as I understand it, PowerPoint only moves in one direction (i.e. forward) in this case. If you want to repeat a slide, I would copy it and place the copy further down in the slidedeck. Example: you have a slidedeck with 5 slides, and once you are at slide 5, you want to go back to slide 4. Copy slide number 4 and insert as slide number 6. In that way, you can move forward from 4 to 5 to 6. As slides 4 and 6 have the same content, it's as if you have gone back.

You go to the file, Slide Show - Record Slide Show - Start recording from the beginning. You click on slide and animation timings. Once you hit "Start Recording", you will hear the audio track once you click on it, and you can time your visuals to the audio track to make sure they are in sync.

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Tal! I have had some trouble with this as well in the past, when I was "overloading" the presentation with animations. Try to check which animation might be causing you trouble. You can do that by making a test version with minimal animations, and if that one works fine, adding other animations step-by-step and making another test version. With "test version" I mean exporting to video. Always make sure the audio file is the first animation on page 1 of the file, and try not to run multiple audio files. Also, before the step of recording the slide show, clear timing on all slides just to make sure you start with a clean slate.

      Always comply with the TH-cam Partner Program policies! support.google.com/youtube/answer/72851?hl=en One of the rules is about "Repetitious content". According to TH-cam this is content that does not add value to the original video, is not original or relevant. An example of "Repetitious content" is those content which has image slideshows or scrolling text with minimal or no additional narrative, commentary, or educational value.

      Hello Mohammad! Did you use the instructions from the video to import the sound file to page 1 of the PowerPoint presentation, and then to animate it as part of the click sequence? Prior to saving/exporting, you can test whether everything works by playing the whole timed slideshow. On your second question, you can use File-Export and choose the quality level of the video. The higher the quality, the bigger the size and the longer it takes.

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Wahyu! After exporting to WMV, file sizes range from 20 MB for a 2-minute video, to 196 MB for a 16 minute video. Depending on the calculation "horsepower" of your computer or laptop, the conversion from PPT to WMV can take a long time. Any of these videos can then be uploaded to TH-cam.

    Step 5, 6 and 7 confuse me, why do you record audio and insert and then record the slideshow? Starts at 2:18
    Can you explain that to me?

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dani! The vast majority of the videos on my channel cover financial vocabulary and financial statements. I prepare a script of what I want to say (which makes me do those separate steps), rather than improvise what I say when viewing the slides (which could be done by recording narration and timing of animation at the same time). Does that answer your question?

    • @TheFinanceStoryteller
      @TheFinanceStoryteller  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First things that come to mind as possible fixes are to check whether the audio format is compatible with PowerPoint (when you do the "Insert Audio" step in PowerPoint), to check whether the audio might have been accidentally muted (unmute if that is the case), whether the volume level for the audio file is all the way up, and whether you animated the audio as part of the click sequence of your PowerPoint presentation.
