Nice review. Thanks. Its great when a customer puts out an independent review from his perspective. I’ve used both the Kuiu Attack and the Firstlite Merino pant and think that is a closer comparison than the Corrugate, which is closer to Kuiu’s Tiburon pant. I’ve got Attack pants in camo and solid. As soon as the temperature drops below 60, I’m in Attack pants for hunting and every day wear. As for layering, I’m a 30” waist and have no trouble with merino long johns, or, when in a tree hunting whitetails, a set of BaseSlayers from ScentLock. I’m an advocate of carbon clothing because it works. So for me, layering is not an issue with the attack pants. Camo color. Everyone has their own theory but if you read the literature there is some good dope on Whitetail vision. They just don’t see the colors and fine detail we do. Their eyes are optimized for movement detection in a horizontal band but they can resolve a shape that has well defined edges that contrast with the background. For my money I prefer patterns with lots of open area. FirstLight’s Cypher has a fairly open pattern, but Kuiu Vias is even more open. As for it being over gray, I spend my time in a tree and although we think of bark as being brown, it’s not so much. Its mostly gray so I like the open pattern of light and gray. Experience is that I’ve never been picked off in a tree, even with deer looking right at me, as long as I don’t move. So on the camo I’ll disagree with the conventional wisdom and say that I think Vias is an ideal pattern for Eastern Woodland tree stand hunting. The cargo pocket on the Attack pant is tight. I can never decide if I’d like it more open, or if I’m grateful stuff does not fall out so readily when I forget to zip it. Its plenty deep and I’ve never had my lighter, cheaters or small folding knife fall out.
Thanks for the video. This was an excellent comparison. I just came across your channel earlier today as I searched for revies of the Corrugate pants. I'm originally from NC and still hunt there on family land from time to tome so nice to see someone from "home". Keep up the good work. I've subscribed and look forward to additional reviews.
The kuiu is a polyester yarn whose stretch comes from the way it is spun and sewn. The FL is nylon fabric with spandex. If you want a pant that will last a decade go with the kuiu. The FL will last several years unless you spill a solvent on them. Like gasoline or stove fuel.
I have both. I feel the corrugate guide pants are stretchier and hug your hips and feel nicer, the attack pants fit similar to a pair of tough kakis and feel like they are definitely more durable. Both are great pants. Corrugate prob be better for just sitting in stand or saddle and attack would be better for climbing mountains
Pretty much agree with your assessment. I have several pairs of both as well. For actual hunting I almost exclusively use the Corrugates in camo patterns - they're just so stretchy and allow you to move so well. I use the Attacks for everyday wear and hiking - I actually don't even have any of the camo in the Attack, I just like them as casual pants.
I think your comment sums everything up nicely. I agree completely. I lean toward the FL guide pants for comfort and overall movement. But those attack pants are super solid, too. I wore them in NM on a turkey hunt this spring. I was fortunate enough to kill a turkey, and the air vents were much appreciated on the way out. You can’t go wrong with either pants.
Great review brother. Looks like both are really well made but the only advantage to the Kuiu is the vent pocket and possibly getting your exact waist size for a more exact fit.
i finally broke down and bought the kuiu attack pants and it hit above my expectations. They seem like they will hold up through many years of use. i really like the fabric and the stretch and the newer valo camo is perfect for where i hunt. However, i have zero doubt first lite has some awesome pants, just haven't had the chance to try them out. Also, i use my attack pants for middle to later of the year, as yes, they aren't thin but they also are not thick, but still too thick for me for beginning warmer parts of the season.
I have the First Lite Guide Lite pants and they are awesome in almost every aspect. They keep me cool on hot 90 deg days and I wore them with thermals in 30 deg weather and was fine. The only thing I dont like about them is they are really loud, like snow pants loud. I will use them for hiking and camping in the summer but will probably need to get some Kuiu Attack or Kutana pants for bow hunting this fall.
I now have both of these pants. I prefer the Kuiu for quality. But that FL stretch is something else. Both are good, but I will probably stick with Kuiu from this point forward.
hey hey...great job describing both in a manner everyone can relate to......you nailed it for me..looking for dual purpose hiking/hunting if I'm spending the $$. thanks
Surprised you kind've brushed off the value of the hip vent on the Kuiu Attack Pant. If you've done multi-day / long hike hunts in these pants I'd expect you'd use the vents ALL THE TIME. I love that I can have them zipped up early / cold mornings, then once we start doing miles just open those vents and DUMP heat. Also, the notion that you have to size up in the Attack Pant to layer under them is just wrong. I wear the merino base layer under mine all the time and have also worn the Kenai synthetic under them with zero issue -- but I can also wear them by themselves just fine. The Corrugates are comfortable pants, but the Attack Pants are clearly a more quality, well thought out design.
I'm looking for a Lite weight pant that is a little baggier The FL looks like they fit the bill but Lite weight is IMPORTANT Some say the Attack pant is Hot even with the vents Everybody is different I know. I sweat when it's 45 degrees hunting Elk in Colorado so I like to stay cool! What do you think about what I said Thanks for your time and the video !! Your Opinion since you have owned both of them....
If you want baggier / roomier I'd go with the Corrugate - it's much more stretchy than the Attack. As an analogy I'd say the Attacks are like a hunting "dress pant" where the Corrugates are like athletic wear. Between these two, the Attack is warmer BUT it does have the vents which do make a difference. With vents closed the Corrugate is not quite as warm but it's not a huge difference IMO. If lightweight is your primary concern both KUIU and FL have lighter weight pant options than these, but I don't own any of them. As an added note, I actually don't wear the Attacks hunting, I have a couple pair in solids and use them as casual / daily wear. The Corrugates are what I use when hunting.

They also have a camo color pallette for conifers/green and open country browns.

I got the corrugate guide pant based on this review. They are wonderful.

I've never had to size up on my Kuiu stuff and both 130, and 210 Pelaton bottoms fit under them just fine...

I have 2 pairs of the Kuiu Attack pants. I seriously love them. Now I don’t have FL to compare but they are hard to beat

The hip vents are nice... regarding layering, perhaps it's just that I'm fatter than you... :-(
outdoorcreed11 I love the vents, I use them every time climate control
Does the kiui have 37.5 tech? Maybe that's why there's no need for the zippers on the fl
Thank you Sir
Kuiu's biggest sale of the year is happening right now for those interested.
Love your kuiu attack color, what color is it the one on the video? Thanks
Those were called "camel" at the time. They no longer offer a color by that name, but it seems very similar to what they now call "buckskin".
@@NCMirage257 thanks!!

I layer up on all my different kuiu pants and I don’t order them any bigger than if I wasn’t layering !
Are the first lite the dry earth color?
Yes
Thank you for the review. Did you find that one was more quiet than the other?
Both are very quiet, no real difference that I can tell.
Looking for clarification. The kuiu are a fitted waist size or it's also very stretchable?
You can get the Kuiu in common waist sizes. They have some stretch but not nearly as much as the First Lite.
@@NCMirage257 ok thank you
Kuiu > first lite. Love my attack pants more than anything
