new adult figure skater here!! Ice Princess got me to think about skating all my life too (lol!!) didn't bite the bullet until now (30 years old). it's been the most liberating feeling on the ice.

I can tell you are not afraid to fall and that is why you are doing so well
Ice princess was the trigger for me too!! I took a few classes at 18, but then life happened and I started again this winter at age 28! I love it!

This video gave me so much hope. Thank you. I'm turning 24 next month and REALLY want to get into figure skating. I struggle with depression and anxiety and I went skating once a few months ago and even though all I did was skate around the rink a few feet away from the wall the entire time, it was probably the best/happiest day I've ever had.

I started at age 22, and two years later I’m competing in my first competition next week! It always seemed like something I could never possibly get into, I live in the south where it barely ever even gets below freezing and I was obviously way too old. But one day I just got it in my head that maybe I could and my husband encouraged me to go for it! I think it makes all the difference having that person there to cheer you on and tell you you can. So kudos to you for hopefully being that person to all of your viewers! You are so encouraging!
This year, a 40 year old figure skater by the name of Deanna Stellato-Dudek won the world pair championship with her partner. She’s also quoted as saying, “I'm already too old to be doing this, so I can be too old in six years, too [for the 2026 Olympics]. So what's the difference?”
She is my absolute inspiration, and my wake up call that I’m not too old to compete at 28. So that’s the goal that I’m working towards now.
By the way, watch her performance at the championships. It was amazing!
Girl your videos are so inspiring. I love that you show the mistakes and the progress you make over time. I ice skated once when I was a child and I always wanted to try again. I was really good at rollerblading but freaked out on ice skating until some dude decided to snatch my hat off my head and I had a super human moment and chased after him to get it back. Totally didn’t realize I was ice skating until I noticed I was no longer near the wall. 😅 I’m in my 30s and I’m trying to get back into doing all the things I enjoy.
I love your video with the “I just need some space” song. That video was so relatable. You skate beautifully and you are right representation does matter. I’m so glad you decided to learn.
I just had my second learn to skate lesson. I bought Jackson Soft Skates because they were cheap and I don’t plan on going any further than the basic learn to skate classes. I’m doing it more so I can skate with my friends and not be the one too afraid to let go of the wall lol! Having an absolute blast learning to skate though!

I loved ice skating when I was younger in 6th grade every weekend I’d go to the ice rink but life happened I stopped few months ago I thought bout joining again but I’m 22 I was thinking that I was too old learn again. Honestly this inspired me to start Ice skating again and become consistent with it
I’m 11, and I started ice skating for like 1 month! I’m doing swizzles and learning ahead myself like spins! I started ice skating bc I just suddenly wanted to too, I am so glad that I started and I hope that I will get better and better and somehow compete!

@@ixxypink1853I STARTED GOING TO PRE-ALPHA! ( Basic 3? ) and currently learning forward crossovers! I’m kinda behind bc I never learned it but I mean it’s a new class and all, I practiced only forward crossovers for 1 and a half hour and I’m much more confident rn! And falling isn’t that scary anymore, since I’ve been scared to fall bc in my whole skating journey, I’ve never fell, and I forgot how it felt, and now I fell, it actually doesn’t hurt as much as I expected. I’m super excited abt my progress! I’m also trying to learn pumps bc the coach also taught us that!

I was humbled quickly last year 😂. I roller skated as a teen and I thought it would translate after 20 years. Yeah..😮 ice and roller not the same . Especially in my 40s,but I love every minute of it❤
Sophia this is so inspiring!! I’m in NYC and started about 1 month and 1/2 ago. I have been internally screaming hoping to make friends who are in similar a journey (I know I just have to step off my comfort zone and start talking lol). I am torn because part of me doesn’t believe I could ever compete due to other commitments in life, but the other side of me DREAMS of it. Pls continue sharing your experience. Literally just started my journey at 24 too and had my first lesson yesterday :) i mentioned it in passing to my boyfriend and he literally said to me “why don’t you just do it?” So here I am 😂 crazy how happy it makes me. I thought I’d feel embarrassed being one of the ‘older’ skaters on the rink but I don’t even care now it’s just so fun! Love your content and videos - came here from the tik toks!!

I've started my figure skating story at aound 33 but had to stop after a year cause of trauma.. then life happened and I had no opportunity to go on. Now I'm 45 and I'm planning to get back to ice next season, cause I realized I'm still obsessed with skating and I'm looking forward to the moment I step on ice again. :)

I’ve always loved skating. I took a couple of lessons when I was really young but I took my first lesson last spring, getting back into it after 26 years(20 years since I was last on skates) - but let me tell you, I’d be listening to any song and imagine a figure skating routine. When I was little I used to compete, I skated for 10 years before I quit, and as I got older I really began to regret that decision. I just bought myself a brand new pair of skates, and at 26 years old I am just starting to put myself back on the ice again. Hi!! Thank you so much for inspiring me to keep going! I’ve been a figure skater for 6 years and I wanted to quit because I kept comparing my skills to younger girls at my rink. It was really discouraging and I felt like I wasn’t good enough, thank you!!
I started figure skating after I just turned 18! I figured maybe I won't progress because I'm older than the expected age to compete but this video makes me feel like I will be able to compete or succeed in skating one day, I'm learning stops at the moment and finding it difficult so I felt like giving up but now I have more hope that I will be able to progress!
It's funny, when I think figure skating one of the top skaters I think of is Surya Bonaly. She was famous for doing a back flip despite getting penalized for it. So when you say you didn't see representation, I think ah, you must not know Surya. Then I think, beyond her, there really isn't any black representation. Good job for becoming a figure skater despite not seeing anyone like you in the figure skating world!
I've always wanted to learn to skate since I was little, but it was too expensive and far. I thought I would never end up doing it, but I've been seeing you and other adult skaters on here who are highly inspiring me to at least try it out even though I'm now an adult. Class signups are opening up next week and now that I can pay for it on my own I'm very highly considering taking the classes but I'm so nervous to be too old or not good enough like others! ahhh hopefully I actually gather up the courage to sign up and give it a try!

Hi I know this comment is a bit late on this video! But can you please make a tutorial on how to fall safely from different angles! I feel the exact same way! I started figure skating at 24 (which is so funny since we started at the same time) but it’s been six months now and although I’ve progressed tremendously from where I started! Now I’m doing private lessons, and I feel like I’m not progressing because I won’t allow myself to fall! One of the main reasons I started to figure skating was to learn to fall so that I would take more risk not only physically, but emotionally as well! I’ve always been on the safe side, so I never put myself in harms way on purpose but I figure skating for this exact reason! But it just goes against every instinct I have, and so I will allow myself to fall, so I will allow myself to progress, and it’s literally killing me! I know I have to fall to get better, because sometimes you have to fall to find the right place on your blade and even all the big girl figure skaters like they will give their all a jump, knowing that they most likely won’t land it, but they do it over and over and over and over until they actually do it! And if I can’t do that with crossover, then I’ll never be able to get me better! 😂 long story short, please do a video where you fall and get back up safely!

I felt the same way about my body type, there’s not much curvy representation, so i felt insecure on the rink. Your videos inspire people who might not feel like they belong, I think they are also very special because so many people don’t want to post their process and only post the highlights, which makes access to this seem impossible and is very unrelatable for a beginner. Your page is also a triumphant display of discipline and commitment and love of something for the fun of it and i think thats beautiful (sorry im getting sappy) anyways random but my proshop ALSO ordered me the wrong sized skates and it was a crazy long ordeal what a coincidence! maybe they struggle fitting adults

I started learn to skate a month ago. I really like it but the groups are only one step up from watching TH-cam videos. So i started private lessons on the side and decided i will continue with private lessons twice a month after the group is done. Am concerned about losing that ice time because I have limited access to rinks in my area and i work full-time and i literally have no idea what rink is open in NYC after and before work for absolute beginners to practice.
Also, lol. Yesterday i fell while skating and i was so happy. Am also petrified of falling. My group coach was like "you are too hesitant"... Am like, "no s***".
I’m about to start figure skating at 20 and I’m so excited. I watched Yuri on Ice at the pleading of my boyfriend and I loved it. Besides all the plots I love the skating elements (I love the whole show too obviously tho). But seeing people my age starting now and being able to compete is so encouraging.

I started skating at the age of 39 (4 years ago). I’ve never worn figure skates, never watched a figure skater movie. I’m more of a “wear a ton of padding and let’s play hockey” girl 😅

Is it possible for me to try and learn some skills myself?,figure skating lessons don’t start till autumn in my ice ring so I was wondering if I could do really simple stuff or if I should wait?
You should definitely try to start on your own if you can! It will make your skating lessons feel much easier because you’ll be more focused on learning techniques rather than learning how to balance for the first time and navigating fear. You got this!

My rink's pro shop is for hockey players and only had 2 pairs of figure skates (luckily they fit me!) but i got the Riedell emeralds, and im about to head into pre-freestake and was thinking about getting new skates but i need to order them in, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to any brand but ive been looking at edea skates lately! Edit: I'm 15, and i dont have the best ankles so i need pretty good support!
