Sweetie, I'm a retired teacher. Every year I got coffee mugs. 27 yrs later I donated all the Christmas mugs and filled up all the thrift store shelves. So now I only have 50 left. As a music teacher, I got musical motifs out the ears, then ones with my name. Can't donate those. I loved receiving everyone of these, but it was time to bless others. So I have filled them with goodies and sent them out with our grandkids to bless their teachers!!!!

Can't go wrong with Corelle for everyday. So lightweight and hardly ever break. My daughter has my mothers sets that were bought in the early 70's. When you can use 50 yr. old dishes every day you know they are a win! In the 70's if you broke one you could send the pieces in with a note of how it broke and they would send you a new one but they don't do that anymore.

They also break if you are teaching your 18 yrs old son how to properly wash dishes and he's no paying attention very well. Then with a soapy plate in his soapy hands, "misjudged" the middle of the sink whilst trying to rise said soapy plate. 🤣 the darn plate shattered into a million pieces 🤦‍♀️ I laughed it off at the time but then found out they don't make that pattern anymore 😪 oh well. Looks like I'm handing down my plates when he moves out 🤣 Moma is getting a new set 🥰

The ONLY bad thing about Corelle dishes is that they will last your ENTIRE lifetime. So choose your pattern wisely as that will most likely be the only set you will ever need. I have the Timber Shadows set and while I love it! I’m considering getting a second set to mix it up a little bit

Gosh I just couldn't agree more with...all of this.
Always shop at aldi, solid advice. Know what to buy and what not to buy at the dollar tree..very important! It took me years into my marriage to realize investing in good stuff like Corelle and nice oven mitts were well worth it and money saving in the long run due to not needing to replace. I had massively heavy ceramic dishes to start with. It blows my mind now that anyone uses anything other than corelle. You don't need heavy plates full of chips. Unless they're the kind you can eat.
Also, I believe coffee mugs are to adults as stuffed animals are to children. I have no idea where they come from or how they rapidly reproduce but you absolutely never need to buy any of either item.

I think placemats are basically meant to be like coasters for your plate. They help protect wood furniture from moisture and heat damage. If you don’t care about water marks or warped table tops then 🤷🏻‍♀️ but if you have an expensive vintage table, you might want to protect the surface.

Personally I'd use a table cloth instead of place mats if I had a table I wanted to protect. You can get a plastic one that has padding to make sure it doesn't scratch it. Then just wipe it off like you would a table instead of dealing with individual place mats.

    • @thisisme2681

I must confess- I do own three sets of fabric placemats to protect my wood table.
I run them through the washer, hang dry, then while outside, I spray the tops with 2-3 coats of camping water repellant (the kind used for tents)
This lasts for months & the spills wipe right up.
I change the placemats out seasonally.

Not to mention with bread machines; I have never visited a goodwill that didn't have at least one on the shelf. Corelle doesn't break, but it does shatter, into itty bitty, teeny tiny pieces that go everywhere! I do use placemats and cloth napkins, easy to add to the towel load and reduces the amount of paper towels used...at least that was the idea until my dog decided he can't wait to go outside as much as before.

  • @lindaburnside3832
    @lindaburnside3832 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I use my breadmaker 3-4 times per week. I never bake bread in it. I bought mine for $8 at the Goodwill after the last breadmaker (also a goodwill find that lasted for four years) died. I make pizza dough in it and I mix bread dough that I make into hamburger buns or rolls or a nice crusty loaf of rustic bread in the oven. I don't have a stand mixer, so the breadmaker does the work of mixing up / kneading the bread.

It’s nicer to ourselves and it reminds me to laugh at things more and not be so serious and stressed. We live and learn right. No mistakes, just lessons. ❤️. Now back to your awesome video.

But I want my table protected from plate scuffs and glass rings. So funny! We have the exact same bread maker and go through periods of high use and then periods of none at all. We have the sandwich maker too (double size) and LOVE it. Saves so much money over McDonald's egg McMuffin and my kids can use it for themselves. It's a pain to clean though.

I have had my plain white Corelle dishes for 20 years and LOVE them! My bread machine gets used on the regular during soup season. I hate that stupid sandwich maker - there is one in my house but it is not mine. I used to have a set of table cloths and would put a fresh one on the dinner table after dinner every night. Then at the end of the week just wash all of them. But after many years of use they wore out and I have just not found any pretty yet daily functional ones that I like as replacements. They really protected my table during those toddler years. :-) On a side note: I used to throw my oven mitts in the washer with the table cloths for a once a week wash because those things get nasty in a flash - now they get washed with the kitchen towels. Oh and the napkin holder... I found one at the dollar tree and I use it in my scraproom when card making. So handy!

My cabinets are having the same issue. I DON'T DRINK COFFEE!!!! I teach and my students give me mugs with Starbucks gift cards which are the perfect gift for every other teacher I know. I LOVE my mugs and they remind me of the students who gave them to me and I refuse to get rid of any of them.

The pandemic turned me into a bread-baker (we only eat homemade bread nowadays), but I don't do bread-bread. I do bread-rolls, all by hand. A basic no-knead recipe is roughly 10 minutes of active work (5 minutes to mix, 5 minutes to shape), and all you need is a big bowl and a cookie sheet, which are things you probably want to own anyway.

My crockery is still going strong after forty years. No cracks. Maybe we make them differently in the UK? :D My biggest 'Nope' was a filter coffee machine. They're a pain to clean and they take up space on my counter. Mine got relegated to a cupboard, where it took up space in a cupboard for ten years. Now I just use a cafetière.

I bought some food storage containers that are advertised even on the packaging to pack lunches. The dang container is so cute and perfect for lunch bags but not microwaveable. Cold left overs? Ummm no thanks 😂😂😂

I got a glass one at the 99 cents store but in was actually $3 or $4 and I automatically assumed it was microwaveable. Got home and read the label and it was not. I returned it. I didn't need it for anything else.

Coffee mugs usually break within a year or two (especially if you have kids), so you do not really have to worry about being over run by them. Corelle is the only way to go for plates and cereal bowls. My grandma told me that and I follow that rule faithfully. I do buy my oven mitts at the dollar store but I get the kind that comes in pairs and is a thicker cotton. They do not melt, you may need to replace them about once a year but I have had that problem with the expensive ones too. I use a placemat kind of under and in front of my microwave. Saves a lot of time when accidents happen. I also have a placemat for when I kneed my dough for pizza crusts. It is easier to clean than trying to scrape crusted on flour off of the counter, and I had a landlady who wanted nothing to ruin the new counters. Although, trying to clean plastic placemats are a pain.

My poor husband is stuck eating on my pink flower correlle plates because i got them when I was single right out of college and they are still in perfect shape not a single one broken. So choose your pattern wisely.

When my husband's grandmother passed away no one wanted the plates. We got them, and while we like our correlle plates from our wedding, the more dated correlle plates hold up a little better. I love them so much that last year when I saw tea cups in the same pattern I bought the thrift store out. Really fantastic for littles. Unfortunately there's no colorful correlle dishes for littles, and we're (especially my husband) are reading more studies about how high long term phthalate exposure has been linked to screwed up hormones, diabetes, etc, so while we're not getting rid of all plastics were wanting to limit the use, and colorful ceramic bowls for our 2-6 year olds are one of the ways we're doing that. Think about it, even if they get cracked, older generations didn't get as many health crisis's as young. Us millennials, something happened, and in our 20-30's everyone is getting chronically ill ☠️
Also, bread additives. Many are banned in other countries for good reason. You can get used bread makers pretty cheap. I got one for $10

I've bought several of the oven mitts and pot holders from Dollar Tree and while they're not as thick as others, I've never had the misfortune of them melting or getting damaged. They're good enough to just remove hot items from the oven or stove.

There was a Corning outlet near my folks' home. When I was cleaning out my mom's home and got to the top of the cupboards - Katie bar the door! There were Corelle dishes in all shapes and sizes. Off to the charity thrift shop they went. You want Corelle, try Salv Army, St Vincent dePaul, retirement communities, etc which have thrift shops. You may be mix/matching but sometimes there are same pattern sets.

You can purchase glass bowls that have 2 layers of glass with air between. You will never burn yourself again. The same is true for mugs of glass. See Amazon. No cracked glazed mugs or bowls again. I also switched to glass plates because I microwave so much.

My grandma tried to give me her brand-new, never used bread maker like 10+ years ago and I told her "I'm never going to use it" I do not regret turning it down 🤣
I still buy coffee mugs I like but I also regularly donate my older mugs to make room for the new ones.
LONG dishes story: I had a set of Target stonewear plates that lasted a good 15 years and several moves before they started to crack and break. I replaced them with a really pretty set of newer stoneware plates also from Target and those things didn't last a year. I kept returning cracked and chipped plates and bowels and exchanging them for new ones until I couldn't do it anymore. Finally one day my child cracked a plate in half cutting a pancake with a fork and I was DONE with those crappy plates! Seriously cutting a *pancake* with a *fork* broke the plate in half!!! I have some bone china and those are holding up good so far but I might have to try Corelle if these start to break.
