It’s a very obvious change but I love when Hearthstone goes back and gives old cards specific tribes. Sometimes it makes garbage cards a bit more playable
Technically, most of the time it's not even "Going back". The tribes are often already on the card, they're just hidden. Like, there are 36 different "Tribes" in the game, most of which are hidden but you can still utilize them for something like Power Slider to gain extra stat buffs. Like, all the races have tribe tags. But there's also things like "Egg" and "Lock" which are wierd additions (Egg being useful to search for Egg cards, even ones that don't have "Egg" in the name while "Lock" is specific to a minion in the Scabbs Book of Mercenaries and received its own race tag for some reason)
Easy standard for identifying a draenei: - Horns (sometimes), blue/purple skin, hooves, tail, chin tendrils (sometimes) - If they are red, that's NOT a draenei. They're an Eredar and therefore a demon. Archimonde is also a demon even though he's blue - If they are gold/white with glowing tattoos, those are also draenei (specifically Lightforged Draenei) Draenei are a playable race from World of Warcraft. They are refugees from the planet Argus lead by Prophet Velen. While their actual species is Eredar, only the members of their race who stayed on Argus and joined the Burning Legion to become demons are called that. Draenei means "exiled ones" in their native language, so it ONLY refers to the ones who fled Argus aboard the Exodar. As for Archimonde, he's a special case. He's a demon lord of the Burning Legion and the reason he's blue is because he was introduced into the Warcraft story very early on before the concept of the draenei/Eredar racial split was a thing, so he was simply always shown with blue skin.
Archimonde isn't a special case. There's plenty of non-Red Eredar. Like, Prince Malchezaar is also blue. Various Wrathguards, Eredar Brutes and Doommaidens are also blue or grey. While a lot of Man'ari Eredar are red, it's not always the case that they are.
"I have no idea what constitutes a Draenei, maybe i'll figure it out" I thought the fact that they are all blue people with horns might've clued you in.
Selfless Hero isn't a BG card anymore for awhile now... we all miss her, but Braggart is probably going to break the next BG update, as it always have... even more so since it has a Tribe now...
What I find the most interesting is that the Broken are tagged as Draenei, but the Eredar are not. The Broken (Ashtongue Battlelord, Farseer Nobundo, Rogue's Akama) are a subrace of Draenei that were corrupted by the Fel magics of the Outland and Orc Warlocks whom enslaved them. The Eredar (Malchezaar, Kil'jaeden, Archimonde) were the original Draenei race, before they accepted fel power from Sargeras (While the "Draenei" are the ones that didn't accept this power and fled, they renamed themselves Draenei which means "Exiled Ones" as a result) So, really, if the Broken are considered Draenei, then the Eredar should too. Both were corrupted by Fel magic and are considered separate from the actual "Draenei".
Eredar are often if not exclusively demon until recently in wow in terms of cc. Since hearthstone does dual type I’d be fine with both but broken being Draenei while eredar not is not the issue you’re making it to be.
Sargarus's power maybe altared the Eredar too much to be considered Draenei (At least in terms of hearthstone). The broken got corrupted by fel magic, but they aren't considered demons.
The pure paladin stuff being draenei makes sense because they apparently took over draenor in the alternate (WoD) timeline and the Mag'har need our help to deal with them. They'll be the "Light Enemy" expansion villains for sure
So draenai are the people that have (typically) some shade of blue skin, tentacles where you would expect a beard (and women have these too), and hooves instead of feet. We have seen some with skin in shades of grey and white, which usually is indication of undeath, additional light infusion (the Lightforged, which will usually have lots of golden glowing to go with that pale skin), or the broken (tainted by fel, tried to stick to the light). You also have some that can have red skin, or other more demonic features and these are the Eredar, those who follow Archimonde and Kil'jaeden, the two major Draenai leaders that made a deal with Sargeras ages ago. The third leader of the draenai from that time is Velen, who refused the deal and lead the majority of those that rejected dealing with demons away from Argus (their home planet) and to Draenor. Yes, the same Draenor that orcs are native to. Those who remained that did not become Eredar willingly eventually became the broken on Argus (something that would happen again on Draenor when Gul'Dan opened the dark portal), or found a way to fight back and became the lightforged (namely by staying onboard one the starships that was the original starship they had, alongside a naaru). So if you see hooves and chin tentacles, it's either a draenai of some flavor, or a demon that used to be one (and might still technically be one). We'll see if Blizzard adds the Draenai tag to some specific demons in the future.
Draenei have been a race in WoW since the 2nd expansion, but there’s so many more. It’s a bit weird, but also nice. To be specific, Draenei are a race from *another planet* in Warcraft lore, so I suppose they are unique in that regard and more distinct and “alien”. Worthy of a tag? 🤷♂️ Edit: It’s easy to distinguish most Draenei from their (usually) blue skin and horns. There are some situations where they may have other skin colours but that’s harder to explain in the lore haha.
Other skin colours are pretty easy to explain in the lore. It's when they're corrupted by different magics, just like the skin colour differences of Elves and Orcs (Pale Elves = High Elves/Blood Elves because of them getting magic from the Sunwell. Dark Elves = Night Elves because getting magic from Moonwells. Orcs are naturally brown skinned, Green orcs are tainted by Mannoroth's Fel Blood) Purple skinned Draenei (Or rather, Broken) are due to Fel magic corruption. Grey/white skinned Draenei are due to Lich King's corruption.
@ purple is a base color. Most broken are blue/gray or darker colors or pale. The brighter colors are base Draenei. I guess you can maybe call a pale indigo for some broken.
Now I'm just waiting for them to add all the other WoW races as tribes. Dwarf, Human, Orc, Night and High/Blood Elf etc. Don't really care if they have any gameplay impact like pirates and totems and whatnot, but it's just nice flavor.
I don't think they'd add stuff like human or orc as tribes cause there are cards that are just meant to be tribeless I suppose. also that would likely lead to minions with triple tribes somewhere I bet, which they haven't done (yet) I could see something like kobolds becoming a tribe though
@@johnj4471 Unlikely as that would make tons of minions require 3 tags. The WoW races already come with some issues in that regard but factions have way more overlap than mutually exclusive racial tags (Pirate, Undead and Demon would be the ones that lead to bloating combinations, and then there's the weirdness with shapeshifted Dragons not being Dragons getting more confusing if their shapeshifted appearance were to be their minion type)

I come from Yugioh and have recently been playing Hearthstone more and more and honestly, small buffs like these seem great. Definitely sticking around for a while as I'm really enjoying the game.
Was just looking at all the new Draenei to copy with the various effects in wild, will be fun to pull them off once in awhile, just opened Velen from my pre-packs too.
It's a good thing to remember that it could happen. Basically, nobody should be in that menu at any point in time, unless they're going to press that button. Don't even risk it, man.
I thought Braggart was just a battlegrounds card, lol. I used Argus in the tavern brawl, and didn't feel horrible when I placed Velen between 2 other minions... but I doubt that will be a thing.
so did the devs confirm that the velen chain gang interaction doesn't work with something like play dead? like it makes sense that if he dies, there's no longer a minion to summon a copy of itself. but if you trigger the deathrattle, since the velen still exists on the board, the copy effect would actually work, right? if so, rogue and hunter have enough trigger effects that you could meme around with that.
It's interesting that every class gets access to umbra, velen and chain gang, which would trigger every previous draenei effects 6 times. I can already think of one combo with the new 1 mana 3/3 in priest and the one that makes healing into damage. Prob way to slow for wild but could be interesting as a finisher for highlander priest.
Also Velen doesn't specify that it has to be a minion, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Xyrella hero card was tagged as a draenei, and would make an infinite loop. But idk, ig we just have to test unless the devs have stated that it doesn't work.
@@zoethe_ If post-rework Jaraxxus doesn't count as Demon, then I doubt Xyrella counts as a Draenai. It's a massive nerf because most of the galakrond cards suck without deck support. Can you please investigate because i haven't heard anyone talking about it. Thanks
Could you mention to Blizzard that the latest adventure is not possible to complete, after playing right through to almost the end, I found that the one card has changed to deal 3 damage instead of 2, which makes it impossible, I watched the walkthrough to find this out.
Draenei tag opens up an interesting topic; it’s the first tag to be based on a race, as opposed to a tribe. Hopefully we don’t see anyone complaining that WoW is racist against humans. 😂 On a serious note, does this open the door for later expansions and race tags? Will we get humans, orcs, trolls etc? That gives me a great idea; why not make Hearthstone more “Horde vs Alliance”? For example, could there be a bonus, like “At the start of the game, if all cards are ally/horde, give them get +1 +1”, Maybe that’s too much programming, but its fun theorizing on the topic.
So doesn't it make sense to now introduce all other tribes, or rather reaces, like orc, tauren, troll, dwarf, etc.? So far we got only Draenei and Undead
Wait, isn't Saronite Chain Gang + Velen just infinite? Also, Zeddy, cards that buff themselves are not gonna be relevant with Velen. It's a Deathrattle, remember?
@@lewst I know that, I just added a part about it before you sent your message, ahah. But I am pretty sure it will still work. Gaining stats obviously won't, but a card that summons a copy of itself when it dies should work. Worst case scenario, it summons a Velen with 0 or lower Health and it dies immediately and then it's literally infinite and the game crashes.
@@Meca-Mat 1) Velen's confirmed to not summon copies of itself with Saronite Chain Gang and it will instead summon Saronite Chain Gangs. 2) Infinite isn't possible. They recently put a hard cap on effects where after so many recursions (Like 30 or so) the cards just gets permanently deleted.
@@tarille1043 1) Ah, that's a weird interaction. Alright, sure. 2) Did they put a cap for that too? I thought it was just like Shudderwock having a cap to how many Battlecries it repeats and effects alike.
@@Meca-Mat It's a cap for any repeated effect. After a certain point, the card just poofs. This was done because of the nature of Adaptive Amalgam meant there were a LOT more infinite recursion combos possible.
It's fun to see Zeddy like "wow, they made these Draenei" Man they always were Draenei. LIke if they added a human tag, would you be surprised "Wow they made Tirion a human!". Besides the fact that they are blue you can tell most Draenei cards by their accent in their voicelines. For example Aldor Peacekeeper saying "Follow Zee Rules" was a dead give away even without looking at the artwork. Not all of them have the accent, but most of them do.
Respectfully, you're being a bit of a hater. Not everyone knows wow lore. As someone who knows virtually nothing about Draenei, this was a useful video. Its nice to have someone really tuned into Hearthstone point out these changes and the potential synergies to start thinking about.
@@lesiegeladYou don't have to be into Heathstone lore. This is more of a "look at the consistency of the artwork between these characters, what's similar between them" sort of thing. Sure some of them would be hard to tell like the undead ones or the ones in full body armor, but ones like Xyrella or Aldor peacekeeper should have been obvious to anyone even without playing wow. Just like you can tell Tirion is a human without having card text to tell you he's a human. Even without ever playing WoW.
Hearthstone videos are non canon pronunciation. Go find a wow video of velen if you want to hear him say as he’s essentially their leader. It’s drah nai. The emphasis changes when said. Sometimes it’s on the first syllable and sometimes the second.
Man you just said , it is DranI just like Bran + I , and then at 0:43 you already forgot and are saying DREAN I , the Ae should sound like A from Apple ,while you are saying more of an EA from EARTH
I get it’s about gameplay freedom over flavor like how WoW has been dropping class/racial restrictions but man is it going to always be freakin weird seeing Velen played in classes that aren’t Priest/paladin.
I mean is cool but. Quillboards? Anyboody remember does aside from battlegrounds? There's no point of a new tribe if there's no more support in future expansions. Undead was a good implementation dow
Wild could stand to get a few more nerfs but we should chill with saying “wild is too fast” bc it just isn’t true. I just hit legend with my control C’thun deck this season
the tag implies synergy though. like, unless they want to print cards that interact solely with dwarf cards, why do they need to print dwarf on any card? also also, having too many tribes in rotation limits design space. think about warrior, with cards like roaring applause, all you can eat, power slider. menagerie style cards could be extremely busted when every single card has a type, and would require more limiting text. for hearthstone that would be bad design.
@@woolerz. I dont think thats smart, they added spell school tags and that went great! Why didnt make all races into the game from start? IDK, they had Totems, beast murlocks and pirates... they expanded so little and so slow... Why draenei? Why not orcs and humans the core of wow universe? but nahh... they added the spacial goats.
@Glenn_1358 I just meant they could use a slow introduction of the races as a marketing advantage not to run out of content in the future... I know it's sad and frustrating but they can do whatever they want :(

I think the only way this would be a nerf is if Waste Warden were meta-relevant.
Is it all the smurfs that are draenei?
If you trigger velens death rattle while he is alive and you have chain gang he will summon another copy of himself.
*gears begin turning*
So any minion that’s blue or purple is a Draenei now
zeddy, imagine that game mode where you can get golden kel tas, where you are forced to still play standart deck even it is long ago wild xD
Wait.. if new Velen is a neutral legendary, doesn’t it exclude itself from any pure paladin decks?! 🤔
there still a way to play pure paladin you just need to play valen as the only neutral card in the deck and have to draw the card Order in the Court
So doesn't it make sense to now introduce all other tribes, or rather reaces, like orc, tauren, troll, dwarf, etc.? So far we got only Draenei and Undead
There is no way I can tell Chillfallen Baron was a Draenei before death 😮
I felt in home when he said Aldor Peacekeeper + Kodo.
Good old times.
Wait, isn't Saronite Chain Gang + Velen just infinite?
Also, Zeddy, cards that buff themselves are not gonna be relevant with Velen. It's a Deathrattle, remember?
Velen is a deathrattle. So the only way to summon a copy of it should be with play dead effects.
@@tarille1043
1) Ah, that's a weird interaction.
I’ve figured it out. Draenei stand for hot, exotic, blue babes.
guys just a question, when will it occour the next rotation, does anybody knows ?
Next rotation will happen with the first expansion of the new year. Usually around April.
@tarille1043 thnx man 🤙
Still no Majordomo Executus support. I'm still waiting.
hate to break it to you but that divine shield card hasn't been in battlegrounds for ages XD
Didnt even think of those, amazing !
Can't wait to cook some stuff with draenei when the expac finally comes out
now we wait for goblin tribal
Good job on the pronunciation of Draenei, now let us know when you work on Exo*door*
Can't wait for the draenei tech card, hungry space crab
There’s also two cards that will be getting it in the future. Neither of which will see play
WHAT IS A DRAENEI??????
A playable character race in WoW, kinda alien
blue space goat man
TIL chillfallen baron is a draenei lol. never noticed it before just thought he was some skeleton dude.
Saronide chain gang may cause some cool synergies 🤔
i dont know i think this video is not about draenei
Oh so now my Xyrella (Hero Card) deathrattle deck can have even Draenei battlecrys now.
What do you mean stealth buffs? These were all announced.
Now, if only they could make ORGRES as an official tribe...
Still waiting on Dwarf, Goblin and Worgen to be a thing.
Finally a correct pronunciation of "Draenei".
I’m sure they’re gonna renerf Saronite Chain Gang, it’s interaction with Velen is too broken
" how can mark make a combo out of this" 😂😂😂
Imma do some shenanigans with libram paladin and deathrattle priest
Hearthstone videos are non canon pronunciation. Go find a wow video of velen if you want to hear him say as he’s essentially their leader. It’s drah nai. The emphasis changes when said. Sometimes it’s on the first syllable and sometimes the second.
You buff my deck Zeddy
Won’t chain gang be like shutterwock with vaelin? Summoning a copy of himself?
Holy crap they gave Baraon Draenei?!?
Shudderwock velen meme seems funny
Man you just said , it is DranI just like Bran + I , and then at 0:43 you already forgot and are saying DREAN I , the Ae should sound like A from Apple ,while you are saying more of an EA from EARTH
Zeddy? More like Zaddy 😏
They were alawys Draenei in my heart!
You forgot Waste Warden! it's a NERF Zeddy!
I get it’s about gameplay freedom over flavor like how WoW has been dropping class/racial restrictions but man is it going to always be freakin weird seeing Velen played in classes that aren’t Priest/paladin.
Eh, there's always been awkward things like this. Tirion/Taelan isn't a Paladin card, for instance.
Can't wait to play this tribe on battlegrounds
I mean is cool but. Quillboards? Anyboody remember does aside from battlegrounds? There's no point of a new tribe if there's no more support in future expansions.
Undead was a good implementation dow
Them blizzard fellas be sneaky!!
Wild could stand to get a few more nerfs but we should chill with saying “wild is too fast” bc it just isn’t true. I just hit legend with my control C’thun deck this season
All cards in Hearthstone is balanced - said no one ever
I'm still kind of mad that they made Draenei actually a "race" and we have like 10 races with no race tag.
the tag implies synergy though. like, unless they want to print cards that interact solely with dwarf cards, why do they need to print dwarf on any card? also also, having too many tribes in rotation limits design space. think about warrior, with cards like roaring applause, all you can eat, power slider. menagerie style cards could be extremely busted when every single card has a type, and would require more limiting text. for hearthstone that would be bad design.
But hey, planning to add the tag during the future years' expansions while adding race synergies is actually smart
I know it's sad and frustrating but they can do whatever they want :(
hello guys im zeddy from hearthstone
said zeddy from hearthstone
Skydiving instructor even saw play in token decks... Zeddy has bad memory...
Always thought ashtongue was a demon :0
