The clear indicator that Jacob did it in the show was when during the court case a witness said he heard, “Stop it you’re hurting my arm.” That detail wasn’t released to the public yet Jacob had that line in the story he wrote just two days after Ben was murdered. I don’t think anyone noticed that small detail.
what bully acts so defenseless even if jacob was holding the knife, is it possible that jacob heard someone actually killing Ben, because what i can't get my head around is that if Jacob did kill Ben, why wasn't there any blood or any wrinkle on his clothes and why wasn't there any DNA on Ben except for a single Finger's print?
I personally think it was not Jacob. I don't know if I'm thinking about it too much, but it's the knife issue. We can believe that yes, his clothes could have been kept clean, but if we accept that Ben died by Jacob's knife, we must accept that he kept it with him all day at school. If we accept that he had the knife all day at school, it implies that he possibly kept a bloody knife in his backpack most of the morning, if not all day (I doubt he cleaned the knife at school). The clothes could have been as clean as possible, but the blood from the knife, even if Jacob cleaned it with the dirt, would have left Ben's DNA on all of Jacob's school supplies (if he kept it in his backpack). Ben died with a different weapon than the one Jacob kept. Not to mention, in the series they made it clear that Patz took the walk through the park explicitly to see (even if from a distance) Ben, so the photos on his phone, watched him, it was his routine. That morning he was in the park (If we accept this, to watch Ben go to school), if he did not see who the murderer was, it is because it was him.
I liked the books version of the vacation with Hope being strangled to death and pointing to Jacob definitely being the killer but I liked the show's ending with Jacob still being alive but critically injured after the car crash because I feel like that's more horrifying to live w a child that you know is probably a murderer and has to keep the secret of his mother trying to kill him
I would say that’s almost on same level as Jacob writing that very graphic and detailed story about Bens death. Join the watch along later today to discuss more.
An open ending is the best, because it perfectly mirrors the doubt, fear and dispair parents of victims have in this situation, it lets you feel how it is for the parents who never will get an answer.
It's interesting to hear where the book and the show deviate... Maybe I'll read it, lmao. I definitely think Jacob killed Ben. I mean, the fact that he had a knife, the lack of empathy, the fact that he couldn't keep his story straight, and history of violence were one thing, but that story?? That was a confession to me. He had the detail about what Ben had said-- the, "stop it, you're hurting me/my arm", the story he wrote made way more sense than the story he told, fingerprint wise. He was in a *good mood* at school afterwards. He did it, lmao. I really liked the portrayal of the family slowly losing it, though. That was so interesting to watch. The way that Laurie was kind of suspecting him the whole time, and the fact that Andy was trying to pretend that everything was fine, but you could tell he was thinking the same thing as Laurie and just didn't want to admit that. *chef's kiss* I'd definitely want a season two, but honestly, I don't know if it needs one, you know??
Yeah Jacob killed Ben in my opinion and I loved the struggle within the family. Chris Evans said there won't be a S2 and I'm good with that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching my review.
I wanted to believe he didn‘t do it but now I think he did it. When we add up everything that just makes sense. What I thought about yesterday was how he immediately got scared when he saw the police cars in front of his house in episode 2. And the police officer found him crying in the park. That makes sense when he really killed Ben. And when Derek read the story in court he was criying. I think he did it but is regretting it and just doesn‘t want to believe he did it. I really like your videos keep going ! You give such postive vibes :)
Wow you made a good point! I forgot all about episode 2 when he immediately ran away when he saw the cops outside of his house. Also his story about how he found the body didn’t add up. You would think that if he found a dead body, he would call for help. He could have even called his dad and Andy would be there in a second. I think that in this show and the book, Jacob being a murder is something that has to be read in between the lines. The truth doesn’t directly come out but if you pay attention to the subtext you kind of get the answer.
That's a great point and I think he did it as well. If you get a chance check out my watch along for the finale I did today. Really appreciate you watching this video!
Jacob totally did it. Patz wasn’t a violent predator. He never violently assaulted the other kid (unless I missed it). This show should get emmys left and right regardless. But good content king.
I remember that in the book, Andy met with Matt, but Matt talked to him. He said Patz had a knife, and he wanted to approach Ben In the park. I think the book was trying to make us think more (thought obviously Jacob did it). I was sad to see that not make it in the show
Another thing I need to add is that, in the book, the only person Matt told about Patz was Andy, not Longudice and not anyone else. I guess that would change a lot more, like why Patz “murdered” Ben
In the show I honestly though that the murder could have been Derek. He had a clear obsession with Sarah and a hatred for Ben. Placing the blame onto Jacob would have then be easy for him and the prefect cover up. However in the book I think its made really clear the murder is Jacob.
Yeah I can see that but the show really didn’t show us that he would be able of and I think he’s an example of misdirection. Appreciate you commenting and watching my video.
For most of the show I was 100%sure that he did it.after reading out the story ,i had not doubt in my mind.but it stated to change a bit when Hope was found.a lot of the show he was really awkward and nervous and emotionless when someone asked him about ben. So when the parents asked him if he had seen Hope and he seemed like he was lying(what Jacob normally sounded like when asked a question)and he ended up not killing her.it confirms it was his normal behaviour when asked about something awkward.the thing that cemented my belief that Jacob was innocent.was the car scene.jacob full well knew his mum was going to crash the car.thats why he was screaming at her to stop.so why moments before what he believes to be death, he says he’s guilty but then immediately says what ever it takes for her to stop.why would he still maintain innocence when he believes he’s about to die.
A lot of great points but to me, him being the one to find Ben, the cutter story and him clearing his hard drive completely, points toward him being guilty. Really appreciate you commenting and watching this breakdown video!
That’s a very interesting take. Maybe he just thought by saying again he didn’t do it then she would calm down and the situation would be-escalate. However, when that didn’t work he just tried to tell her what she wanted to hear.
I think Jacob did it. There are a series of clues throughout the whole series. Moreover the only justification for his behavior AFTER the crime is the sense of guilt. I understand he is a teenager, but I think he could realize that many of his actions are self-incriminating. Also in Mexico (even if the whole thing is toned down compared to the book) he could still try to act differently, like this time being more open and honest while he is still antisocial and disconnected. I actually think in the show they could have left things a little bit more open, widening the list of possible suspects or having other characters generating some evidence; at the end of the day Jacob is the only one that could have done it, that’s why both families don’t actually believe he is innocent.
I just finished binge watching this show, and started looking around for reviews to compare my analysis to. Personally, I think the TV show's biggest conflict here is that the pedophile indeed murdered Ben *but due to the mystery and vagueness of how the murder actually happened* , an even deeper conflict happens because the mom starts to doubt her own son because of the of the perception and dissenting opinion of a lot of people in the community. In real life, what mom would do that? And it also raises the point that a lot of people "judge a book by it's cover", as in the case of the eccentric Jacob. In real life, a lot of people do make assumptions about someone's character just because "he or she isn't like most people", or if "you look rough and tough", a lot of people assume that you are mean and violent. Something like that. So I like the way that these possibilities opened up in the TV show as a result of the lack of details presented by the director and writer. It makes you think. Again, my personal opinion, is that the pedophile is the killer. But the eccentric personality and childhood history of Jacob makes a lot of people INCLUDING HIS OWN MOTHER wrongfully judge him, and now he is in a coma, fighting for his life because HIS OWN MOTHER tried to kill him. And the only person in the world who is on Jacob's side is his dad. And that I think that makes a very interesting story which makes me wonder "What will happen next if Jacob comes out of his coma?". Will the traumatic events brought about the trial and his mom's distrust eventually CREATE a real serial killer? Will Jacob be "REborn in blood, pain, distrust, and agony??"
The scene where Jacob and Andy r playing a boardgame and Jacob says something along the lines “you have no moves” that whole scene made me feel like Jacob was the killer
I honestly thought this was making him, and us, definitively know that he is stuck, he doesn't want to know if Jacob did it, but it plagues him. If he tells the truth about patz, he could lose his son, if he doesn't, how does he live with himself etc.. so no moves like - you just have to live with it.
I enjoyed both endings from the book i felt it was more darker and feels more realistic and it feels more like Jacob was did kill Ben. I also enjoy the Series ending because it carries the story for different possibilities and leaves us wondering if Jacob made it and if he did how is the family dynamic will change and how will everything turn out. It's good for dragging the story longer.
I think the book version of what happened with Hope is better. In the show Jacob is just a crappy person with leaving a young girl alone at a party (although, he was even younger and probably didn’t realize what can happen there). However, it is a pivotal moment where both Laurie and Andy break down and will always be wondering about Jacob. Especially for Laurie; where she just learned about Jacob not really being exonerated.
If hope was stranggled, how would there be blood on his shorts? I a guess one drop is plausible but normally little to no blood in strangulation, right
I think Jacob’s mom killed Ben Rifkin. Ep 1 shows her coming home from a morning jog. Is it possible she was has having an inappropriate relationship with Ben Ridkin and he threaten to tell and she met up with him in the park and stabbed him. He said “stop your hurting me” sounds like something you would say to someone you are close too knowing they are acting out of character. She could’ve changed her clothes and the fact she was comfortable committing vehicular manslaughter (almost) is a HUGE red flag. I’m probably the only one who thinks this but there’s so many scenarios, suspects and theories that are tied to Ben Rifkins murder. Awesome show doe wow I am so invested
I really preferred the book version regarding the girl Hope which does plant the seed that all is not well with Jacob. And adds more conflict for his parents especially his mother who is weighed down with guilt that her son may or may not have taken another life. I really wanted to see that on screen alas tv Hope ended up returning safely...
So- I just watched it and came to see this information... if in the book, Hope was found dead by strangulation, then why is there blood on his shorts??? Not usually much blood in strangulation.
I just finished the series and I was left speechless. Astounding performances from all the cast, particularly the Barber family and their attorney! AMAZING. I’ve only watched the show. I’m curious on your thoughts on the photos of Ben of Patt’s phone. As we see him delete them after Ben’s death, however they’re never really spoken about again. Do you think he was simply being a creep or it was more untoward? Also, the fact Matt never turned up to speak at the trial. I don’t know if that was just a filler or had meaning. I wonder if he would’ve changed the outcome of the trial as he claimed Patt’s did it. Even though his confession was forced, maybe he just didn’t want to confess? I’m having wishful thinking Jacob didn’t do it, especially w his vulnerability in the crash scene and his reaction when his parents would directly question his innocence. I’m unsure! Sorry for the long comment, love your video. My mind is buzzing after finishing the series
No need to apologize because I love hearing your thoughts on this amazing show. So I think the examples you gave with the Ben's picture of Matt leaving town was just the shows way of misdirecting the audience and making you think it was someone other than Jacob. Love the comments and thank you so much for checking my video out.
I got question I know it's late but I just started and finished the series. If Jacob strangled Hope there should be no blood and also how does he get away with it?
This show is amazing, especially the last two episodes brilliant. I'm trying to order the book since the beginning of the season and is sold out in bookstores and online, here in Portugal. So this is great and love the way you depict each layer and predicted some of the outcomes.
I think he didn’t do it because the show is setting it up so that he did. I think that in a twist in season 2 everyone is going to think because of the book oh he did it, but then they just pull the rug out and say that it was Matt and that’s why he fled when he got the subpoena. Then he becomes a murderer based on Lori’s betrayal and she is his first victim. I think this show loves subverting expectations so I think it wasn’t Jacob. I also think those moments early in the season where he is being sweet and laughing at a funny movie. I don’t think I cold blooded killer would do that.
What happened to the kid who said Jacob did not kill Ben the 2nd worst part. That would not happen they didn't even enforce the whole beyond a shadow of a doubt??
I really love the show. Haven’t read the book tho, will be getting it soon tho. I really didn’t want Jacob to be the one that did it. But after the knife, the story, the comments. Everything. I just know he did it. The end had me confused tho. Because the entire time I thought we were trying to figure out the Ben incident, but we were trying to figure out Jacob’s. “We just want justice for Jacob.” The only thing that had me thinking that he didn’t do it, was the car scene when he said he didn’t do it, but she wouldn’t slow down the car so then he said that he killed Ben, but then followed that with “whatever you, want just please slow down” I feel like if he wanted her to stop, didn’t want to die, and was as scared as he said he was, he would have told the truth right then and there. But there’s more evidence to back up that he did do it. Great show, 100% worth it.
I am so late to this party. I just watched this series and I think that they can definitely do a second season introducing another character as the guilty person. Like Ben’s father. Ben was a little bit of an asshold and the writers can make up lots of episodes based on that. Jacob is definitely a misfit but the evidence was never able to prove 100% that he was guilty. I think Lori remembers what she did she doesn’t want to admit it.
I think Jacob did it too. But I think he's just a dumb kid too. That meme thing and the cutter room story that he can't wait to upload on that website.. I mean it's too obvious and I wonder if real killers can't help but show themself off like him without noticing themselves or like they can't control their satisfaction when you finally kill someone you hated. I think if he's not the real murderer, it will be more meaningful that he's not thinking much but happy with the fact that the bully got killed and doesn't afraid of being accused cause he's realy innocent. So, I really feel awkward if the show got to make he's the killer and still do such dumb acts.Who would do that? But I dun know if he's too sure that his dad is a very capable prosecutor and will protect him at all cost.
then why was jacob crying when the story was told i mean a serial killer wouldnt shed a tear or as told during the show not empatheticccc clearly there was emotion there ???????? im very confused
Ella Grace You may have answered your question within this question. Why are cry if he was empathetic? Jacob has proven throughout the show that he can be very manipulative in his actions and his therapist even said his answers to her questions seemed rehearsed.
I’m not sure we can demand he was genuine in that moment because we’re not in the characters mind. Jacobs reaction to Bens death was why do people care to pretend?
I really feel that Jacob was guilty based on all the evidence shown in the show. The fact that his grandfather’s a murderer, the disturbing pornography, the detailed story, the past incident with the bowling ball and the fact that the tests that were ran showed that he had the potential to be manipulative. After hearing this review though, what really confirmed it for me was Hopes death in the book. Andy ( but mostly Laurie) knew deep down that he did it.
Loved the video! I did the same after watching the show to get some answers but ended up with some key points from the novel. I sort of hate the novel for letting Laurie live, would have liked both to have died. In the book, it sure hints that he is the killer but in the series, I do feel like there are hints that it could be someone else ( like Derek f.eks ). I hate the fact there is no answer to whether or not he did it! I feel like the series definitely plays the did he or did he not with the way Jacobs character is played out. I hope a second season is coming with the aftermath and then maybe a definite answer to everything with twists. Do we know if there will be another season?
First of all, great video, good job! Also I think it was patz cuase a child predator deleted a bunch of pictures off his phone of a kid that just got murdered that he thought was "cute". Jacob has issues and writing about killing someone you hate with all your heart, even though is disgusting doesnt mean hes the killer. The fingerprint story is questionable, but doesnt necessarily mean he killed him. End of the day I think the writers just put in these little clues to throw you off, so doesn't mean theres an actual definite answer.
Agree to disagree because remember that Jacob wiped his PC, what did he delete? Also Patz was no where near the park during Bens death and that's why the cops let him go and Jacob was the only person to see Ben that morning. Either way I really appreciate your comments and for watching my review.
@@MovieFiles Np! I dont see how him wiping the computer has anything to do with the murder. The kid was into weird porn, its understandable why he'd want to delete it. I dont recall proof that patz wasn't at the park, could be I'm wrong. Also since unlike the book where he killed hope, the series leaves it opened ended for you to come to your own conclusion.
So the book ending to me is more tragic- Laurie kills her son so that makes HER a murder. So the question is - is it ok for her to murder Jacob because he seems to be on the path to becoming a serial killer? Is it ok for her to take justice into her own hands? Also - I feel that Hope’s death is supposed to be that ‘confirmation’ that yeah Jacob’s a killer. Once is a coincidence but twice? That’s way too convenient to be a coincidence! Plus the blood stain on his shorts and all that is like extra confirmation... overall I loved the show and will be buying the book soon to read it 😍😍
The question you asked about "is it ok for her to murder Jacob because he seems to be on the path to becoming a serial killer? Is it ok for her to take justice into her own hands? " is truly thought provoking. Putting whether Jacob is the killer or not aside, Jacob was never pleaded guilty nor did he make an official confession, therefore, it was a hot-headed decision of Laurie's to kill her son with no certain conclusion.
Jacob dying was a kind of mercy, he would have had to spend the rest of his life in Jail. Laurie probably hoped that she would also die. The show changing the ending gives the possibility for a second season.
I do think Jacob did it it’s to convenient that he was the first one there if he had nothing to do with his murder hope died and murder is just following them
I think laurie is highly involved and twisted . First, she met his father , and she weirdly said thank you to the guy who she ran and jumped through neighbourhoods to run from.
I think that Jacob killed Ben due to the story he wrote, the cutter porn, the issues he had when he was younger that never was checked by his parents and a therapist, him calling Sarah a slut instead of talking to her, getting her side of the story between her and Ben. Like the series of tests that Jacob had to take by the Biological Psychiatrist, Jacob lacked empathy, compassion, can be manipulative and may be violent. I love your breakdowns so much. If you loved this show, I think you would love another mystery Apple TV show called Home Before Dark:)
Jacobs bestie did it in defense of the girls extortion. I think it’s clear from the scene where he confronts her. Why would he be “defending him”, more like defending himself. Hence, the online post.
Listen- I know I'm late to the party and all, just finished up the last episode today, but I really do not think he did it. After the second day of the trial when jacobs dad asks him if he did it, he looks into his eyes near tears and says he didn't. He shows throughout the series that hes interested in writing and symbolisms, and that's why he was able to write a story like the one that was shown. I just really don't think he was the killer, but I may be wrong. Imo the killer wasn't even introduced into the show in the first place.
Really good presentation dude! I really dont want Jacob to be the killer but yea there are a lot of possibilities. At some point, I feel like it's easier to blame Jacob bcs he has this personalities and stories that support. Like the story about bowling, the conclusion from the psychiatrist that he is antisocial, lack of emphaty and stuff, also to mention the joke he posted online about what ppl think of him holding a knife, the comment he made after someone died?!?! (seriously tho he's dark) and the story he wrote that specifically similar to real situation makes us point the finger at him. But murdering someone on his way to school is also ridiculous.. isn't there gonna be splatter on his shirt? But he was clean and going to school alright like Derek told the detective. At least he shouldve had blood on his hands, where did he wash his hands? And wouldnt he be sweating and suspicious? It just doesnt add up to me. Andy shouldnt have thrown the knife, so it will be tested for DNA and proven Jacob innocent. I think it's Patz but it's just sooo stupid he died like that. I mean it couldve been him all along but maybe he was saved by being killed like that 😖 Welp that's my theory but I really love the show toooo it's so gooddd!!
I liked your comments. They were insightful. I believe it would have help you if you actually read the book as it could have augmented your review. You would have understood more about the characters feelings and other nuances. I read the book and watched the series. Both were great. I prefer the series ending as Jacob didn't die and there is hope. Of course this leaves it open for a second season. The book is more finite in its ending. After reading the book I felt Jacob murdered both Ben and Hope. The book definitely leaned towards that. The book also goes into more details of the physiologist's evaluation of Jacob and shows he truly has a dark nature. This led me to believe even more that he murdered both people. Again I did enjoy your review!
Movie Files I did enjoy the series. But maybe because I’d already read the book, I was disappointed in the ending. I knew this ending was different going in but I was okay with that because that’s not unusual for movies. I’d also heard how great the ending was so I had a lot of expectations. When Hope didn’t die, I felt they left it too open ended. I wasn’t prepared for Hope to die in the book, so the shock and realization that the parents were wrong (and that I didn’t want them to be wrong!) was such a shocker! I wanted the movie to match that!
I'm a bit late to this party, but I think Patz probably did it & was just happy to let Jacob take the fall. Probably. But I also think Jacob was clearly at least building up to murder & was involved in Hope's kidnapping. I didn't know that the book had her die as well, so that makes perfect sense to me. It's hard to say without having read the book, but I think I prefer the ambiguity in the show. Like Andy, we're left with no clear answers... very Lady or the Tiger.
Have not read the book, but it was a new favorite until the finale, definitely Did NOT like the finale big Rotten Tomatoes!! , now the Actors/ Actresses.. WOW!! AMAZING... OSCAR MATERIAL ALL THE WAY.
I really hate the show ending. The book ending makes it very clear that Jacob did it. While adaptations change things sometimes, I really don't think changing it to make the ending more ambiguous/confusing is a good thing. Especially when the dead girl and bloody shoe is supposed to be the bow on top of the violent porn and short story box. It's especially disheartening when the rest of the show is just absolutely fantastic. Edit: I especially loathe the fake-out with how Jake acted and how long the girl was missing, etc, etc.
havent read the book but in my opinion, that ending didn’t exactly answer the main question, who kills ben, its like that we need to decide who is killer by watching details, i mean, Jakob its weird because he did stupid things without telling parents, even when things got worse, but pitz i think its not a killer, at least because they show his 1 dirty side only, sorry for bad english just wana tell that i liked the movie but i cant understand that ending.
I personally believe Jacob was guilty and the show purposely put distractions in front of the audience to make us think it was someone else. Appreciate you watching my video for this incredible show.
tip: you should actually read the book before making a comparison next time, many of your assumptions of certain details are off, just make a show review if you didn’t actually read the book! otherwise it isn’t even a valid comparison!
Thanks for the feedback and I actually said up top that I haven't read the book and just research it and gave my thoughts on what I found. Also, I've done reviews each week on the show breaking it all down. Either way, thanks for watching.
I like they changed the ending, I don’t like the idea of a mother killing her own child, n is such violent way.... if she is so sure Jacob killed Ben, n decides to kill her son, I would die holding my son, n loving him n we will go together
I think it's unlikely Jacob killed Hope, think about it, he would have only hurt Ben because Ben was bullying him. If anything, he wouldn't hurt Hope because she was nice to him.
I want to believe Jacob is innocent, in reality there have been cases when even thou everything points someone as guilty, it is just circumstances n the suspect is innocent n no one believes him. Innocent people have been sentenced to death n have been killed only to find out later that they were innocent. I believe Patz is the killer if not why would he erase Ben’s pictures. Jacob is a teenager, who has been bullied by Ben, therefore he is really not sorry about his death; it sounds cruel but it is reality. I like the series ending, Jacob will make it, the mom will live n both Jacob n Andy will know that she tried to kill his son; n this is horrible, as a mother I feel I will give my life for my children. That’s just my opinion.
Love your comments and thank you so much for voicing your thoughts. I will say to your point about Patz and the photo, one could say the same about Jacob and his computer being wiped.
While the other videos are helpful, I was disappointed that you didn’t bother to read the book before making a video describing the differences. It is lazy reporting and reminds me of kids at school who read the cliff notes instead of the book. Such a shame - books offer greater insight into characters that can never fully be captured on screen. Please consider reading the book and offer a revised video.
I want to know what part shows Jacob did it? he did show empathy, he shed tears when Derek was reading the story. second, in the story he wrote 'Stop, you're hurting me' now honestly which bully talks like a weak kid and says this to a guy he has been bullying, he'd have been dominant even if Jacob held a knife. the kid did a great job in confusing us did he or did he not kill Ben. But I believe he did not, it was Patz, Jacob saw or heard Patz doing stuff and then wrote it all. I mean if someone's picking on you, you might not kill him, but you will fantasize killing him or just relieved when whichever way he dies. all in all I hate open endings, If I had known this is how it's gonna end, I'd never have watched it. Just did it for my man Chris Evans. man you rock. I think his acting skills should be appreciated more.
He showed empathy because he faked it. Remember his sessions with the therapist, she told Laurie that he has a very high IQ and he answers to her questions seemed rehearsed and the test done on him show that he lacks empathy. Also the show told us and confirmed Patz was no where near the park during Ben's death and his alibi was confirmed hence the reason they left him go when they questioned him Jacob was the only one to see Ben in the park that day and his fingerprints were the only ones found. The show did a good job of trying to make it seem it wasn't him but he did it. The book had him clearly being guilty but the show wanted it to be harder on the audience.

That's a great point. Thank you so watching my video on this great show!
Weareone 123 how do you know it wasn’t known information for him? It was testimony by witnes, his lawyer and dad probabaly had this testimony.
what bully acts so defenseless even if jacob was holding the knife, is it possible that jacob heard someone actually killing Ben, because what i can't get my head around is that if Jacob did kill Ben, why wasn't there any blood or any wrinkle on his clothes and why wasn't there any DNA on Ben except for a single Finger's print?
Yea I caught that too. Wasn’t sure if it was a film making mistake or what but now I think it was Jacob
I liked the books version of the vacation with Hope being strangled to death and pointing to Jacob definitely being the killer but I liked the show's ending with Jacob still being alive but critically injured after the car crash because I feel like that's more horrifying to live w a child that you know is probably a murderer and has to keep the secret of his mother trying to kill him
Loved the ending of the show
She will always wonder if he is a killer, and so will he
Love that ending
I remember seeing patz deleting ben's pictures from his phone... Thats the reason i think jacob didn't kill Ben..
I would say that’s almost on same level as Jacob writing that very graphic and detailed story about Bens death. Join the watch along later today to discuss more.
@Chris that kid was afraid because of his criminal record
Chris why does Jacob wipe his computer?
Movie Files porn
Sactown_cm 15 😂
*chef's kiss*
I'd definitely want a season two, but honestly, I don't know if it needs one, you know??
Really appreciate you watching this video!
well said
What SY said.
Chris why would you run if you knew you were innocent and your dad is a DA?
Jacob totally did it.
Patz wasn’t a violent predator. He never violently assaulted the other kid (unless I missed it).
This show should get emmys left and right regardless.
But good content king.
Yeah I hope this show and the performances get love during the awards season. Thank you so much for supporting my content.
I remember that in the book, Andy met with Matt, but Matt talked to him. He said Patz had a knife, and he wanted to approach Ben In the park. I think the book was trying to make us think more (thought obviously Jacob did it). I was sad to see that not make it in the show
I’m Abrish Malik that’s would’ve been a interesting moment to add in for sure. Appreciate you checking out my video!
Another thing I need to add is that, in the book, the only person Matt told about Patz was Andy, not Longudice and not anyone else. I guess that would change a lot more, like why Patz “murdered” Ben
Yeah that would’ve definitely added a new layer to the show
In the show I honestly though that the murder could have been Derek.
I agree on the last part! Jacob seems to only be "confessing" because he wanted her mother to stop the car, it was not a genuine confession
Lorenzo Bertizzolo Yeah I’m right there with you regarding the clues that point toward Jacob. Appreciate you commenting and watching my video.
Love that you discovered this years later and really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and for watching my breakdown
The scene where Jacob and Andy r playing a boardgame and Jacob says something along the lines “you have no moves” that whole scene made me feel like Jacob was the killer
Definitely
Yeah I loved the ending
Great presentation Sir.
Glad you liked it!
Well said and appreciate you sharing your thoughts and watching my review.
If you read the book, it’s pretty clear Jacob did it.
Having Hope survive adds more ambiguity to whether Jacob killed Ben. I think it was a good choice.
Yeah I preferred the books handling of that moment as well but the shows version was interesting as well.
Yeah I loved this show as well. Hope you can join my live watch along today!
Love your review! Now I want to read the book! 👏🏻
A lot of great points but I think Jacob did a great job of trying to act normal, especially in front of his parents.
Who's Matt again?
Jacob wasn’t a cold blooded killer. He killed that kid and thought that sense his father was the assistant DA then he would get off.
Razrninja the guy connected to Patz.
Weareone 123 I agree
What happened to the kid who said Jacob did not kill Ben the 2nd worst part. That would not happen they didn't even enforce the whole beyond a shadow of a doubt??
who Matt?
Excellent análisis!!! And you are right, Now Jacob Will have to live knowing what his Mother did.....
Thank you for commenting and watching my breakdown!
Yeah I feel like he did it and yes one of my favs this year
I am so late to this party.
Glad you watched it and seems like you enjoyed it. One of my favorites from last year.
But I dun know if he's too sure that his dad is a very capable prosecutor and will protect him at all cost.
yeah i believe he did it as well and made so really dumb decisions
then why was jacob crying when the story was told i mean a serial killer wouldnt shed a tear or as told during the show not empatheticccc clearly there was emotion there ???????? im very confused
Ella Grace You may have answered your question within this question. Why are cry if he was empathetic? Jacob has proven throughout the show that he can be very manipulative in his actions and his therapist even said his answers to her questions seemed rehearsed.
@@MovieFiles so him crying during the trial wasnt just pure geniuine sadness if thats the case then thats CRAZY
Yeah all the signs point to him being guilty. Really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and for watching my review.
Do we know if there will be another season?
its unfortunately a one and done from what I've read from the creators of the series. Thank you for watching my breakdown and sharing your thoughts.
Great vid keep it up
Appreciate it
So the book ending to me is more tragic- Laurie kills her son so that makes HER a murder.
Plus the blood stain on his shorts and all that is like extra confirmation...
overall I loved the show and will be buying the book soon to read it 😍😍
Yeah this is one of my fav this year!
I really don't need a S2 but would interested to see what that looks like.
I do think Jacob did it it’s to convenient that he was the first one there if he had nothing to do with his murder hope died and murder is just following them
Yeah I’m right there with you regarding Jacob being guilty. Appreciate you watching my video!
I think laurie is highly involved and twisted . First, she met his father , and she weirdly said thank you to the guy who she ran and jumped through neighbourhoods to run from.
Fantastic Video Sir!
Many thanks!
Yeah I couldn't get in that show Home Before Dark and I tried but it just wasn't for me.
@@MovieFiles I understand how you feel. Sometimes shows are not for people.
Jacobs bestie did it in defense of the girls extortion. I think it’s clear from the scene where he confronts her. Why would he be “defending him”, more like defending himself. Hence, the online post.
Listen-
I know I'm late to the party and all, just finished up the last episode today, but I really do not think he did it.
Love your breakdown and thank you for checking out this video and Jacob was the killer my friend : )
This is the video that made me a subscriber. Just so ya know.
That's awesome and really appreciate you supporting my channel and welcome!
I mean it couldve been him all along but maybe he was saved by being killed like that 😖
Welp that's my theory but I really love the show toooo it's so gooddd!!
Yeah this was a great show and I love your breakdown and thank you for watching this video!
In the book Jacob killed a couple of people and mom killed him in car crash.. it was supposed to be murder/suicide.
Appreciate you sharing that and thanks for watching this breakdown
Thanks
Okay if he did killed another girl on holiday, where the investigation of that case lead?
the investigation on Jacob?
Book! Hands down wayyyyyy better
Did you enjoy the series?
Movie Files I did enjoy the series. But maybe because I’d already read the book, I was disappointed in the ending. I knew this ending was different going in but I was okay with that because that’s not unusual for movies. I’d also heard how great the ending was so I had a lot of expectations. When Hope didn’t die, I felt they left it too open ended. I wasn’t prepared for Hope to die in the book, so the shock and realization that the parents were wrong (and that I didn’t want them to be wrong!) was such a shocker! I wanted the movie to match that!
I gotcha
I'm a bit late to this party, but I think Patz probably did it & was just happy to let Jacob take the fall. Probably. But I also think Jacob was clearly at least building up to murder & was involved in Hope's kidnapping. I didn't know that the book had her die as well, so that makes perfect sense to me.
It's hard to say without having read the book, but I think I prefer the ambiguity in the show. Like Andy, we're left with no clear answers... very Lady or the Tiger.
Glad you watched the show because I really loved it and hope more watch it. Thanks for watching this breakdown.
Have not read the book, but it was a new favorite until the finale, definitely Did NOT like the finale big Rotten Tomatoes!! , now the Actors/ Actresses.. WOW!! AMAZING... OSCAR MATERIAL ALL THE WAY.
Emmy Material*
yeah the performances were incredible
I would say so
I think we should also talk about Derek Yoo
I really hate the show ending. The book ending makes it very clear that Jacob did it. While adaptations change things sometimes, I really don't think changing it to make the ending more ambiguous/confusing is a good thing. Especially when the dead girl and bloody shoe is supposed to be the bow on top of the violent porn and short story box. It's especially disheartening when the rest of the show is just absolutely fantastic.
Edit: I especially loathe the fake-out with how Jake acted and how long the girl was missing, etc, etc.
really I loved it
havent read the book but in my opinion, that ending didn’t exactly answer the main question, who kills ben, its like that we need to decide who is killer by watching details, i mean, Jakob its weird because he did stupid things without telling parents, even when things got worse, but pitz i think its not a killer, at least because they show his 1 dirty side only, sorry for bad english just wana tell that i liked the movie but i cant understand that ending.
I personally believe Jacob was guilty and the show purposely put distractions in front of the audience to make us think it was someone else. Appreciate you watching my video for this incredible show.
Movie Files seems its reasonable version ))
ty for your time
Thank you for commenting and watching my breakdown 👍
In the shows version I believe Jacob's mom killed the bully kid and then just forgot. It's kinda like how she tried to kill Jacob and then forgot
🤔
Fantastic explanation
tip: you should actually read the book before making a comparison next time, many of your assumptions of certain details are off, just make a show review if you didn’t actually read the book! otherwise it isn’t even a valid comparison!
Thanks for the feedback and I actually said up top that I haven't read the book and just research it and gave my thoughts on what I found. Also, I've done reviews each week on the show breaking it all down. Either way, thanks for watching.
The comment section be turning into the real court
Yes it is LOL
I don’t like that they changed the ending.
Yeah I know a lot of people weren’t happy with that ending. Appreciate you watching my video!
I like they changed the ending, I don’t like the idea of a mother killing her own child, n is such violent way.... if she is so sure Jacob killed Ben, n decides to kill her son, I would die holding my son, n loving him n we will go together
Yeah definitely a dark decision by Laurie for sure.!
I think it's unlikely Jacob killed Hope, think about it, he would have only hurt Ben because Ben was bullying him. If anything, he wouldn't hurt Hope because she was nice to him.
Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and watching my breakdown
If Hope got murdered in the book , sow Jacob is guilty
Yeah the book gave more of a answer about him being guilty
Jacob has NPD for sure, but that does not make him a killer.
Loved it
One of my favorites all year
I think Jacob killed Ben because
I watched this video
Thank you!
But but you did not read the book?!! So no info on themes and characters!!? 🙃
👍
While the other videos are helpful, I was disappointed that you didn’t bother to read the book before making a video describing the differences. It is lazy reporting and reminds me of kids at school who read the cliff notes instead of the book. Such a shame - books offer greater insight into characters that can never fully be captured on screen. Please consider reading the book and offer a revised video.
I think it could’ve been Derek
I hated Laurie
I enjoyed her character as well as the performance
I want to know what part shows Jacob did it?
he did show empathy, he shed tears when Derek was reading the story.
second, in the story he wrote 'Stop, you're hurting me'
now honestly which bully talks like a weak kid and says this to a guy he has been bullying, he'd have been dominant even if Jacob held a knife.
the kid did a great job in confusing us did he or did he not kill Ben.
