Hi Gary, it was a virtual sail for me too! This is a compilation of footage I had from other outings. Our mutual friend often says how relaxing he finds watching and hearing the sounds of sailing, so I had him in mind as I was putting it together. Looking forward to the next 'real' outing!
Hello, I enjoyed the video quite alot, too. I hope you continue to share. I've developed an interest in sailing only recently, and to be honest I can't say I know anything about it yet. So I'd be glad if you answer my question. Around the 2:10 mark the boat seems to be sailing quite fast. How fast was it? Also, I'm not sure if it is feasible for you, but I would surely enjoy uncut, long versions of videos likes this.
Thankyou for your comments. This video is a compilation of footage used to make the other recent videos. Most of the sequences are longer than they appear in the "story" videos, but the purpose of this edit is just to enjoy the sounds and sights of sailing. I have a friend who really enjoys that. I think the boat speed was about 5 to 6 knots at that time. I didn't measure it as I don't usually carry GPS. I think also the longer focus shots make the speed appear greater.
No matter how fast it is, it doesn't really matter. It will be very very slow compared to how you are used to moving through the modern World, but it doesn't seem so when you are there in the moment. Sailing is an art form. Trimming the sails and getting the boat to work just right may only change the speed a tiny bit, but it is the inner satisfaction of practicing an art well, that brings the magic.
