  • The Isle of Skye is located off the West Coast of mainland Scotland. It’s home to some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes shaped by jagged mountain peaks, towering sea cliffs, and large stretches of greenery. It’s no wonder that tourists have been drawn here for centuries. In this video, we highlight 6 of the most beautiful natural places to visit on the Isle of Skye.
    6. Sligachan Old Bridge
    The Sligachan Old Bridge is the first natural beauty you’ll encounter when crossing the Skye Bridge. Being so close to the mountains, the bridge offers majestic views. It was historically an important junction as it was part of the only road that crossed to the western end of the Isle.
    😴 WHERE WE STAYED
    Kinloch Ainort Apartment (HIGHLY recommended!): www.booking.com/hotel/gb/kinl...
    5. Fairy Pools
    The Fairy Pools are one of the most popular sights on the island. Here, multiple cascading waterfalls are connected by crystal clear pools against a backdrop of rocky mountains. As its name suggests, the scenery is truly fairy-tale-like.
    4. Fairy Glen
    Fairy Glen is another enchanting place to visit on the Isle of Skye. With its miniature cone-shaped hills and rocky outcrops, it has been said that fairies created this landscape.
    3. Quiraing
    Quiraing boasts some of the best natural views in all of Scotland! You can take in the landscapes by traversing its windy road and stopping at the viewpoint by the parking lot. But, for the full experience, we suggest going on a hike so you can see the jagged rock formations and waterfalls up close and get better views of the lakes below.

    2. Kilt Rock & the Mealt Falls
    The cliffs here are absolutely awe-inspiring thanks to its basalt columns that are said to resemble a kilt. Add to that a waterfall that plummets 90 meters or 295 feet over the cliff into the icy sea below and you’ve got some spectacular nature. This is a 2-for-1 highlight and you can easily observe it from a viewing platform.
    Old Man of Storr
    A final must-see natural area on the Isle of Skye is the Old Man of Storr, the most photographed spot on the island. The Old Man of Storr is a magnificent pinnacle of rock that towers above the green landscape. To get up close, you need to do a 5 kilometers or 3 mile semi-loop hike, which takes between 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. But try to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and secure a spot at the parking lot.

    I will always be amazed by how high Scotland’s mountains feel even though they do not get beyond ~1350m!

    Asked my mate Jim Brown from Portree about the Fairy Glen/Pools, he said he'd never heard of them until the 1990's I'm on the big Island.. Kyle :)

    This is such a wonderful place to visit,🤗. I wanted to ask because I saw the waterfall there, have you ever been to the South African Waterfalls in Mpumalanga, found at Graskop and Sabie, before???

    • @worldwildhearts
      @worldwildhearts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Isle of Skye is wonderful! And yes we have been to Graskop and Sabie before we started making helpful videos... I remember the Berlin Falls and the Lisbon Falls were beautiful! 😍 We might be going back next year as we have two friends who are getting married in SA!

      That's great to hear, maybe we might cross path with you guys. I've been to Lone creek falls and Lisbon falls,of which nobody told me 😩how hectic it is coming back from the ground when you have gone down close to see the fall.

    Great video! Did you need to make advance reservations for the places you stayed overnight? We are headed there in May and kind of hoping we can fly by the seat of our pants lol. We did that on a road trip in Ireland and had no problem finding places to stay.

    • @worldwildhearts
      @worldwildhearts  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We didn’t but we were also visiting in November. There aren’t so much accommodation options in the Isle of Skye, so would maybe pre-book that one. But for places like Edinburgh it’s definitely not necessary

    Hi love this, thank you ! Is there any way to go around this Isle of Skye other than by car ? Thank you =)

    • @worldwildhearts
      @worldwildhearts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s tough but there are some tours you can join that leave from Portree. Most people seem to hop on an arranged tour from Edinburgh or Glasgow though. There is also a public bus on Skye but it doesn’t run frequently and only goes between bigger towns. You can find more in-depth info here: www.isleofskye.com/skye-guide/travel-tips

    What time of year were you in Scotland?

  • @danyeo
    @danyeo ปีที่แล้ว

    Going to Scotland in 2 weeks, first week of April. My first time ever in Europe. My Mother was born in Nairn so I'm first generation here in the USA. We only have 3 full free days though, 1 day in Sky, 1 in and around Loch Ness, the other I'm trying to figure out. We're staying in Whitebridge so not heading South. I'm thinking of hitting the train bridge and Steall falls. It's me and my wife and 2 kids, 13 and 10. BOTH are Harry Potter fans. Any other spots you suggest we try and hit?

    • @worldwildhearts
      @worldwildhearts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think If you only have 3 days, the places you mentioned will be more than enough! 1 day in Skye will allow you to visit all the highlights (make sure to do a quick stop at Eilean Donan on your way there), 1 day at Loch Ness (also Urquhart castle is a must-visit and right at the lake edge), and 1 day the viaduct + Steall falls. You drive through Glen Nevis to get to the falls and make a few quick stops as well. If you have extra time that day, then Glencoe could be worth the trip as well. You can stop at the viewpoints and do some short walk there!

    What's the average price to rent a car?

    • @worldwildhearts
      @worldwildhearts  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you rented the car from Inverness airport and then dropped it back off there one week later, it would cost on average $700 for the week (or $100 per day). That price does not include gas.

      I’m renting a car for May 2024 trip from enterprise through Costco for 7 days. 380 pounds for Ford Focus size car. Getting insurance for additional 90 pounds through Costco.
