  • Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2018 | Glasgow, once an industrial powerhouse, offers a fun look at Scotland's vibrantly gritty urban side - full of edgy street art, trendy dining, and the striking architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Leaving town, we'll tap into Scottish passions as we tour historic Stirling Castle and nearby battlefields, sample a dram at the land's most beloved distilleries on the Speyside Whisky Trail, watch a sheepdog demonstration, and struggle to lift the Manhood Stone at a Highland Games. Check your local public television station for this Rick Steves’ Europe episode or watch it on www.ricksteves.com/watch-read... #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #glasgow

I lived in Glasgow (am Canadian) for a time long ago. Lovely city. When I asked directions to the train station, the shop keeper was having a hard time making me understand his accent, so he just said "ooch" threw up his hands and shut his shop to WALK ME THERE!

I visited Scotland for the first time this summer. I visited Edinburgh, Glasgow, St. Andrews, Stirling, and Anstruther. Edinburgh is great but is way too touristy. Glasgow has some outstanding museums and I wish I had spent a few more days there. Glasgow is way underrated and and is worth visiting for sure.

I'm from Brazil. I met a group of Scottish on a trip to Argentina and I'll never forget how friendly and joyful they were. They reminded me of Brazilians. I never knew they could be so similar to us from a land so far away from Brazil. In those times I didn't even speak English so well and until nowadays I don't know how we could communicate, but we did LOL. Since then Scotland has been one of the countries on the top of my list to visit in Europe. I couldn't achieve this dream so far, but I hope one day I will.

I went to Glasgow on my way to Liverpool, to see Phantom of the Opera stage show back in 2014, I think it was. I stayed in Glasgow 2 nights and had to get up at 4am to catch the train. The staff wouldn't let me outside by myself in the dark, so they called a cab to take me the short distance to the train station. They changed my room to a more private area, so I wouldn't wake anyone when I left and when I arrived back at 1.30 am next morning! I'll never forget their kindness.

I hope my wife and I get to visit this beautiful place. Not only to see the beauty in nature and the cities but the people who seem so happy to be there. I wish the world had more of this attitude. We also very much want to take a narrowboat on a few weeks of leisurely traveling the canals so we can get a true feeling of what life is like there. We're in The US and have been all of our lives. Only a few short years to retirement. Hopefully, we will be healthy and able to enjoy life and see the world!

@@bertharius9518 We still have to wait for retirement. We want to be able to take a month so we can properly take it all in and being a union Carpenter, I get 2 weeks at a time tops. I have a friend who just retired and is now battling cancer. He stayed on an extra year for the promise of a significant amount of money which he now regrets.

Figured out from a test that I’m a direct descendent from William Wallace (my g-pa’s last name is Wallace, and he decided to do genealogy stuff) & I’ve recently become super obsessed with Scottish history & traditions. Love all things Scottish🥰👌🏼
