From what I know cone wood is toxic like any conifers for chinchillas as other rodents. Safe wood is birch, willow or apple tree. So I don't understand why do You recommend pine tree?

I made some ledges a few months ago and I glued tiles to it. It stuck on some ledges and not on others. I like it because the poop & dirt wipes off easily.

Love this and wanna try this!
Theme's + prompt words to get the creative thoughts flowing haha:
    - Medieval and/or fantasy (castles, fortress, gates, walls, dragons, magic)
    - Travel / exploration / location based themes: deep jungle, desert, mediterranean, arctic.
    - Pokemon
    - Mario
    - Modern outdoors (nature, wanderer, forest, mountains, tents, minimalist, survival)
    - Techy (inspiration can come from the gaming world, or modern tech, and then even futuristic stuff. Space themes could be fun to play around with. even further supernatural / alien themes).
    - Rustic, historical, western, new world. (Time period focused. current US vs US back over 200+ years ago. Think of a place, and a time, anywhere around the world - and use that to inspire an idea)
    - Bohemian or a "free spirit" themed
    - Artsy (painting, drawing, building, creativity, fun, expression, artifacts, modern, museums)
    - The Andes mountains :)

Do u take the whole shelf off every time to cool the chiller? *Idea* use your poop guard alternate idea EXCEPT all the way around the sides so it sits in there but can be rotated with cold ones. Make a finger slot to pull it up😁

Question,,, do the hanger bolts need to be stainless steel, or galvanized ones is fine?

    • @ChinVillain
      @ChinVillain  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You must use stainless steel as zinc is toxic to chinchillas if they consume enough of it and galvanized steel I believe is zinc coated steel.

It’s so easy and so much cheaper then buying ledges online or in stores.

wrap a piece of tape around the top of the drill bit at the depth you need to drill to. Now you know how far to drill down.

Hi!! I'm having issues getting my wooden ledges to stop leaning (my chin loves to jump!) Any tips? I'm thinking of building my own ledges too but don't know what to do to prevent this from happening again😅

    • @ChinVillain

If possible, I would try to place heavier shelves on the horizonal bars for support. However, if that is not an option, I would maybe try adding a vertical piece of wood to the bottom of the shelf for support so you can add more bolts. Like the chinovation shelves on etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/624587473/leaping-shelves-extra-wide-ledges-95?ref=shop_home_recs_17 . You may also want to consider having these heavier shelves in corner where the shelf attaches to two sides of the cage. Hope these ideas help.

Fresh or air-dried pine is toxic to chinchillas because of the sap in the wood. Thus you must use a kiln-dried pine as this removes all of the sap and reduces moisture in the wood. Kiln-dried pine is commonly used for chinchilla ledges and huts. However, Pine seems to also be a controversial material. Another popular wood that is used is poplar.

Not pressure treated. Ask for untreated pine

ok kids at 3:40 and also throughout this video you can learn how not to use the drill and how not to drill holes in a thin piece of wood - do not follow this
