      Rodents (especially chinchillas though) will wink frequently, especially when happy and well-adjusted. It’s kind of like their way of saying hello :)

      @gypsywolfspy1787 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ewan Oxborrow try holding it by the base of the tail it's better then how she was. the chinchilla was biting her for that reason

    • @addybarr4169
      @addybarr4169 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      You should never hold them by the base of the tail because if you are too ruff they will drop their tails and they need their tails to balance. You should just support them under their feet.

    • @chrissyk6653
      @chrissyk6653 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I think the chinchilla was getting too hot in her hands/against her and getting restless. Handling is all well and good, but I would never hold my chinchilla for that long.

      If its still a problem, when we traveled about 4 days and 3 nights, we kept out cats from the same litter in a cage (Like a dog cage) In one car, and our dog (Small beagle) in the other, ans kept them in the back seat. If you have a carsick animal, like my dog uses to be, search how to make traveling more comfortable and easy. My hack is to use half of a children's dramamine, this should work with both dogs and cats. Any other minor pets, like fish, if you are moving far away, try to give them away like we did. Chickens and small to medium outdoor animals can be sold, because transport shouldn't be tried without the proper space, like a separate trailer with a cage for them. You can always imporvise on the way there, like we did, by taking the cats out to roam the rest stop so they wont be as stressed cramped in the car for hours, and then the dog afterword. Make sure they are all happy and not stressed.

    Your chinchilla is adorable! I used to have a white chinchilla, so cute. About the baby gates, a chinchilla could easily jump over that. Chinchillas can also fit in the craziest smallest of spaces so be careful if you have your chinchilla out. 💗💗💗

    As far as living conditions go, I just got a condo cage for my chinchilla. I placed her at the bottom level and put all her familiar toys in there especially her wheel. Her wheel I placed at the second level of her cage while her shoulder and dust bath are at the bottom with her bedding. Her food and water is at the third level and her play area are where who chew toys are at. I'm glad she's getting used to her new living space after being in an on top of a dresser type cage for so long.

      @@chrissy3735 Sorry to hear about this. This is often the result of switching pellets too quickly and not mixing ratios over the course of a couple of weeks or so. It's very important to know what pellets the chin is on when you purchase.

    My chinchilla got bullied when she had other chinchillas around. All the websites we go to say to only have one chinchilla if they have gotten bullied before. Is it ok I only have her as my chinchilla?? She will probably get scared if I get a second one

    • @levonf.8093
      @levonf.8093 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Your Chinchilla can learn to socialize better with other Chinchillas and it actually is recommended, because Chinchillas are generally social creatures, but when you get a second chinchilla make sure it's the same gender so it doesn't mate.

    • @Nina-cp5cm
      @Nina-cp5cm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      If she really can't be with any other chinchilla you could have her alone BUT chinchilla's already need a lot of attention/playtime when they have a friend so you need to make sure she can play with you minimal 1 hour a day, because and you probably already know this she will get lonely and can die of it.

    • @lemondraws6079
      @lemondraws6079 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also the breeder of my chinchilla's said something about getting chinchilla's together. I think this is only for males but i'm gonna tell you anyways. She calles them "green males" that means that they haven't had any kids. They apparently are easier to put together.

  • @juliehsunflower

    This was an awesome video. I am really seriously considering getting a chinchilla, but I just have to convince my parents. I feel I will be able to give it the best life possible I just need my parents to approve. Do chinchillas smell at all? I know some rodents can stink very bad, even if you do clean regularly. Oh and can you order hay and pellets online? The closest place (I believe) is about 40 minutes away which wouldn't be a problem except I can't drive yet. I would want to make sure I can always have food available for him/her. Thanks so much for all your informative videos, they are so helpful! I love your channel.

      Kathy's Chinchillas No you can give them dried apples but a very small amount (like a tiny treat) dont give it to them everyday but yes they can. They can have a very small piece of grape too (use California grown its much safer) even tried rose works aswell. They can have a few veggies, I have a chinchilla hand book and have a chinchilla I found it at pet smart its very educational about them I think you should check it out plus check your facts before you claim. Thank you for reading:)

    Its not mean to put a Hamster in the plastic ball because if you let them loose,they could easily get lost.
    But I understand for chinchillas.

    Two things I don't understand about Chinchilla care. While I keep them dry and always keep them in a cool, well ventilated basement, I don't understand how their native ancestors might have survived in the Andean Foothills where it gets hot and occasionally rains or where they experience wet snows during winters.

    My chinchilla is hooked on alfalfa hay, he's about 17 now and I've been feeding him timothy and grass hay all his life. But for some reason he won't eat any other kind anymore. I still put grass hay in his cage, but unless he's starving he won't touch it. I also give him pellets.

    EATING CAREFRESH: so my Chinchilla LOVES his cage as well as his food! He loves his Oxbow pellet food, his assortment of different hays, and he even loves his vitamin c tab, and then of course his weekly treats! He has a four story cage with lots of climbing ledges, a slew of different toys (plus he gets a new toy each week), multiple different styled hideouts that double as chew toys, and he has a wheel which he absolutely loves loves loves! He always has something to keep him busy, and he has proper nutrition, AND he gets out of his cage for a few hours every single day, so he has a healthy adventurous lifestyle! Nothing is wrong with him or his health or his environment or lifestyle! He is a spoiled and happy little boy who I am ridiculously proud of lol! BUT, he would STILL nibble on his carefresh bedding! He loves paper and paper related materials, which is why he enjoyed the carefresh bedding so I switched him to kiln dried pine bedding! But yeah, just wanted to share that Chinchillas may eat carefresh bedding for other reasons than mentioned in this video, such they may like the taste and texture!

    So I have a question, what about for dust baths, the dust bath container I'm getting is plastic, I'm not keeping it in the cage 24/7 I would give my chinchillas time with it everyday to roll around and such and then take them out, is that okay?

    I can't let my chinchilla run around because my cat and dog will chase him. My dog will also lick him which is really bad for his fur. I have caught my cat several times with a clump of my chinchillas hair in his mouth. How can I let my chinchilla run without him getting all over my room and getting lost?

    I'm scared of myself around chinchillas because I can get very hyper sometimes, and I hear they are very fragile so I worry about them jumping out of my hands when I'm trying to hold them.

    my mom’s friend told her that someone she was working with said she had 15 chinchillas in a cage where 4 in it is pushing it. then they said they used to have 60. yes, 60. it’s disgusting, its abuse, and it’s going to be reported. i’m not letting them treat their animals like this. it’s horrible. ive got 2 in a cage like that, and i may get another in a few years. but i will never, and i mean never, put more than 3 in that cage.
