      I would argue Dark instead of Grass. While yes he can hide in bushes or trees, he more generally hides in dark and secluded spots just as a whole, something which fits Dark much more than Grass. He would definitely have plenty of grass and poison moves, though.
      Edit: While Dark can be evi, some (especially and specifically Umbreon) are more general “likes darkness” pokemon.

Sniper being an Australian as well as him being a class with little mobility and focusing on (long range) ambush fits the spider theme to me. I'd say Sniper makes sense as a Normal + Dark type. He obviously isn't nefarious or evil like the official Dark type implies, but he's somewhat stealthy and strategizes around punishing other player's mistakes, tries to attack without getting seen akin to a Sucker Punch, and he applies debuffs like a dark type would and then immediately capitalizes on it. Coupled with the Normal type, this would give him a 4X fighting weakness in Pokemon, which translates well to how he typically struggles with close quarters fighters that get the drop on him

    4:31 I'd personally have to disagree about Sniper not being a Dark type. Another trait that Dark types tend to have is that they have cheap tactics and dirty fighting moves, such as Sucker Punch and Taunt. I feel like Sniper being relatively sneaky due to being a sniper (they hide in dark places, but I'm overstretching) and his use of Jarate definitely being a dirty tactic, I'd say he'd definitely fit as a Dark type

    Here's my takes - Soldier through Engineer are the same as they are in the video (Sld: Flying/Fighting | P: Fire/Fairy | DM: Fire/Steel | H: Ground/Fighting | E: Psychic/Steel):
    Scout - Electric/Dark: Dark, while usually known as the evil type, is also a common home for the punks and thugs and rebels and what-have-you. Electric fits since his two sodas and several soda-based accessories give him energy in one way or another, not to mention the Soda Popper's existence giving him electrified shots (mini-crits).
    Medic - Normal/Dark: Medic is an EVIL bastard if you know anything about him, but he covers that devilish nature with the veil of a fairly normal medicine man. This gives him the healing moves along with a good ability to use it with, plus if we really wanted the other heal moves, who's to say we can't just give him some level-up coverage?
    Sniper - Normal/Grass: As another commenter puts it, he is the Bushman. Normal also continues to work for him since he really is a normal guy. Sure, he's got a blood-money job, but other than that he's a fairly standard Mundy. Hey, wait, that's his name... Twice. He's literally Mun-Dee Mundy. As in MUNDANE.
    Spy - Ghost/Dark: I'm not convinced on giving him the steel type exclusively because he uses knives and whatnot. He can learn steel-type moves without being steel-type. Dark fits him a lot more, since he's always using underhanded tactics to win a fight, making him the third idealogy of the Dark Type. Additionally, this gives him only one weakness, that being Fairy. Guess who's Fairy-Type on the roster? Pyro! Pyro is the only Super-Effective counter to Spy. I rest my case.

    My personal opinions on each class:
    Scout: Water/Flying. Water because of Lon’s mentioned reasons, but also Flying because of his speed, his Hermes boot icon, and - most importantly - his double jump (which can be extended with many unlocks).
    Soldier: Completely agree with Lon here. Maybe normal instead of Fighting, but I still think fighting works better overall.
    Pyro: Again, completely agree with Lon. I would honestly love to hear another idea that isn’t Fire/Fairy, since it just fits so perfectly
    Demo: A tough one, since he fits… a lot of types. I decided Fire/Steel works well (though more for the stickies than the swords like Lon said).
    Heavy: Ground and Fighting works well. I was considering Ice because of where his family lives and all that, but… as someone whose favorite type is Ice, the last thing we need is another attempt at a slow, tanky ice type.
    Engineer: Some have mentioned Electric. I agree. Electric/Psychic it is, then.
    Medic: Normal/Grass is just… an odd choice. Especially since pokemon learn moves that are outside their typings, and signature moves… exist. I would argue that Poison/Dark fits far better, with Poison being because of the Chemical Warfare that he does (and as an homage to TFC Medic)… overall, poison just fits too well. As for Dark, this is mostly because of his personality - most of Medic’s personality traits line up with common traits ascribed to Dark or Ghost types, and he isn’t dead, which just leaves dark.
    Sniper: Dark/Normal works better than pure normal imo. Dark because he hides in the shadows and secluded areas, similarly to Umbreon or Absol, and Normal because of his professionalism and because he is mostly just… normal, as far as personality goes, compared to the other 8.
    Spy: Dark/Steel. I was considering replacing steel, but I couldn’t think of a good enough replacement and if I did, there would be only one steel-type merc, which just feels wrong. Dark replaced ghost because, as said with Sniper, shadows are associated with Dark more than Ghost or any other type. Besides, he isn’t dead (No, Jellicent’s existence does not prove that Spy can be a ghost).

    Wholeheartedly agree with your typings for Soldier, Heavy, Engi, and Demo, but I'm not so sure about the rest.
    For Spy, I really don't think Steel is fitting. Steel-type mons are almost all very durable and relatively large, which is the absolute opposite of Spy. I think Ghost/Dark fits better, since Dark is generally associated with underhanded tactics, cruelty, and unfair fighting.
    For Sniper, I will actually propose Water... and not just because of Jarate. Several Water-type pokemon are associated with high-power single-shot rifle-like attacks at long range (Clawitzer, Blastoise, Inteleon, and prolly a few others I'm forgetting). Between that, Jarate, and literally being born below the ocean, I think it's the closest fit we've got. I could see Water/Normal too.
    For Pyro, while I do like Fire/Fairy, I think Fire/Poison also makes a ton of sense: Pyro is always in a gas mask, something associated with toxic gas in warfare, plus they're the only class with damage over time in their stock weapons, which Poison is very heavily tied to. Just depends on whether you choose the second type off what they see or what everyone else does, either fits
    Medic... you really should'nt've let your choice be tied to just the types with the most healing moves. I'd suggest either Fairy or Psychic paired with Dark: Dark is the cruel evil type, and Medic finds ze hurting much more rewarding than ze healing, whilst Psychic is for high intelligence and healing/supporting teammates via moves like Reflect, Light Screen, Heal Pulse, Instruct, and Trick Room. With the interpretation that mons like Grimmsnarl and Tinkaton take, Fairy also suits that cruel nature while seeming good on the surface, plus I just associate it with healing for some reason.
    Scout I feel is very clearly a Flying type: he's got high speed, high aerial mobility, he often stays airborne for most of a fight, he's close range, and he's fragile, all of which are associated with Flying. As for a second type... I really don't know. Normal could work well due to his fairly simple on paper but effective fighting style; Fighting could maybe work for his cocky eagerness to fight, though that's more of a Fighting/Dark thing specifically as it's only really seen on Scrafty and Toxicroak afaik; Bug could work for having access to unusual abilities, being great at getting in and out quickly a la First Impression and U-Turn, and high fragility; even Poison could work for being the class with the most bleeds and the fact that his sodas are almost certainly toxic. I could see Flying paired with any of these.
    Fun video btw, and I think seeing which actual pokemon the mercs fit with in your mind(regardless of if the types line up with this video's) could be another neat one.

    Potential Ability effects for the mercs(in the mindset that these would be exclusive to the respective merc):
    Scout: When hit by a water type attack, apply protect but you can't use any attacking moves while the status is active. Cannot activate the turn after the protect status ends and protect and it's equivalents will most likely fail on the same turn(of course based on the BONK atomic punch)
    Soldier: Explosive moves deal extra damage, can survive one explosion or self destruct when used(Soldier would definetly put more gunpowder in there to amplify the explosion and also that one glitch with the taunts of the escape plan and equalizer where you can actually survive the taunt if you stand under a bridge on certain maps)
    Pyro: All fire type moves also deal fairy type damage(like flying press does for flying and fighting, based on the fact that Pyro views that he does not actually do fire damage, also the Rainblower)
    Demoman:If a KO is gotten with an contact move, heal 20% of the hp and get a stat boost in speed, can only activate five times in one battle(based on the eyelander's head collection)
    Heavy:yeah i have no clue for heavy, go give suggestions or smth
    Engineer 1:If alone in a double battle, can build a sentry gun at the end of the turn that automatically attacks the pokemon with the least hp, except for ally pokemon, of course.(based on the ability of engineer to be able to build sentry guns, of course)
    Engineer 2: If a third contact move is landed in a row, a crit is guarranteed on the third hit(yes yes engi has 2 signature abilities, go cry about it. Based on the gunslinger)
    Medic:All healing moves heal 50% more and also heal the partner in a double battle(of course due to medic being the healer of the mercs, he would know the ins and outs of healing, therefore being able to amplify it)
    Sniper:All bullet moves have a higher chance to crit and higher accuracy(based on headshots and the way skilled snipers can actually truely snipe you from across the map)
    Spy:Can survive one fatal blow and only takes 10% of the actual blow, then switches out, the enemy sees that the spy actually died, can only be used once per battle(based on the dead ringer and it's fake death)

    The Ground type fits Heavy because it brings to mind slow, beefy high damage mons like Rhydon, Mamoswine, Hippowdon, and Golurk. Which, if you've somehow never played TF2 despite watching this video, is exactly how Heavy plays. For Fighting type, him being the only merc to use hand-to-hand combat for his melee (aside from Pyro's Hot Hand, I guess, but that barely counts as a melee option) also helps push the point across.

    I'd've gone with Sniper being a Ghost type too, since sniping's -a good job mate- an inherently surreptitious operation where every trick is required to to successfully click on those heads (to a point): forgoing Unusuals so you don't stand out as much, properly positioning your crosshair so your laser doesn't give you away, even much of his arsenal is geared towards hindering the enemy as much as possible (Jarate dealing mini-crits, Razorback preventing backstabs) in the event there's a direct encounter; sure, it's not exactly as good a fit as it was with Spy, especially since I never played Digimon, but it just feels right. To me, at least.
    To that end, I'd also go for a Dark type, but what do I know?

    - Scout as a grass/flying type with chlorophyll (grass grows, birds fly, sun shines, and I hurt people)
    - Sniper as a nornal type with the Sniper ability, focusing on moves with high crit rates
    - Soldier as flying/fighting with Reckless and focusing on recoil moves
    - Pyro as pure fire type with fairy type coverage and Flash Fire
    - Engie as an electric steel type with Stakeout to punish switches, soldier and scout
    - Spy as a ghost ice type (the spycicle, plus now he dies to pyro) with Illusion
    - Demoman as a ground fighting type (punishes engies hard) and some kind of explosive enchancing ability
    - Heavy as a pure steel type with regenerator to represent the sandvich
    - Medic as a fairy/dark type with either Triage or Prankster (plus night slash because ubersaw crits)

  • @leeto64

    some thoughts as a huge fan of both franchises:
    - Ghost also additionaly fits Spy since I feel there's a certain degree of "rustic" and "elegant" in the type's aesthetic sometimes, look at trainers like Shauntal and Fantina, and some Ghost-types rocking designs that would befit an old abandoned manor, a place formaly of high class: Sinistea, Misdreavus, Litwick, Honedge, and Frillish to me all seem to hint at that. Spy is clearly the most refined of all mercs and thus befits those pokémon, I can easily picture Spy doing the sofa taunt in Mann Manor with a few Ghost types - they all match the environment which clearly matches the pokémon type; just mono-Ghost would be a good type for him.
    - Poison for Medic is actually fitting if you bring the opposite of a typical well-intended healer - and you don't need the Dark type to hint at Medic's twisted nature. The difference between a life-saving cure-all or a lethal substance can be, literally, microscopically tiny. Poison-types also are already associated with chemical production which befits the medical field, additionaly Poison is also the type with most snakes, of which snakes are a symbol of medicine (the caduceus). Poison would be thematically genius for him imho and not sure abt any others
    - I literally can't put this into words but i sorta agree with Ground for Heavy? I was half-expecting the classic Ground/Rock combo or a mention to Rock, he's a very... "bulky" man like those two types tend to be portrayed both in the pokémon themselves and the trainers that use them.
    - for Sniper, I feel i'd try to give him Bug type: Australia is known for oversized bugs for one, but going deeper, bugs are some of nature's most clever and dangerous hunters with hundreds of tools at their disposal while oftentimes being able to make do with simple tools as well. a sniper is like a "hunter" stalking it's prey, much like the spider will make a nest for it's prey, or how the bug catchers, also prominent of the bug type, will stalk their target. Bug type is also one of the types closest associated with living in grass (and trees), without being filled with refined, "pretty flowers" like many Grass types are.
    - Scout truly is a tricky case. A "cool guy" type would fit him amazingly, his stature and being toyed as a kid because he's the youngest of the mercs would relate him to a Bug Catcher, but his hit-and-run style to me fits Electric or Flying types as brought up often, specially Electric-type pokémon themselves such as Jolteon and Manectric who usually have a very high Speed and over-rely on it to get the job done, not hitting too hard usually and specially having troubled defenses.

    I think the mercenaries' types should be based on in-game balance rather than what type of weapons they use. I'd tweak things as follows:
    - I'd keep Heavy, Soldier, Pyro and Engineer because they're perfectly sound, though there's an argument for Engineer being Steel/Electric.
    - Sniper would be Ghost/Grass because he's an ambush hitman that hides in plain sight and can check Heavies, however he gets bodied by any hard hitting move, like Soldier's Flying STAB;
    - Spy would be Dark/Steel, because he's a counter to Engineer and Sniper, however he gets bodied by both Soldier and Pyro;
    - Scout would be Water/Electric because thematically makes sense whilst making his match with Heavy more even;
    - Medic would be Grass/Psychic because, apart from Medic's high IQ, it makes great synergy with Heavy and Soldier whilst being an easy target for Sniper and Spy;
    - Demoman would be Fire/Rock type. While it's one of the type combos with the worst synergy, it would still be able to check classes like Soldier and Pyro, and Demo himself is quite bulky;

  • @Nemzal
    @Nemzal 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Sniper could be like... Ground/Steel? Steel because he's usiquely reliant on his gun, bullets, and knife (other mercs have other tricks), and Ground because he stays mostly rooted in one spot, and is associated with the deserty Australia?
    Normal type would make him immune to Spy's attacks, and Spy immune to Sniper, so we'd ideally want to play into their rivalry - Ground would give Sniper an advantage vs Spy, so that's no good.
    Water type gets through Steel's defences, so Sniper as Water/Normal could reflect his Jarate/Razorback (pierce Steel defence, ignore Ghost attacks), while neither resists Steel so Spy can still get his attacks in.
    Maybe Spy would have a special Backstab ability that makes an attack super-effective if it's not resisted? Probably too strong.

    I'd argue Medic is Grass/Dark. He is the most comedically maniacal/evil of the mercs. I'm very surprised this could be missed--
    Plus Grass/Dark is a famously atrocious combination, like his medical expertise and morbid curiosity. It also reflects on how vulnerable he can be whenever the Ubersaw isn't out in a melee fight / when his team isn't around.
    Dark/Grass with some broken support stuff like the Prankster ability, Triage or Magic Bounce would possibly also remedy his vulnerabilities
    For moves things like heal pulse, wish, helping hand, ally switch, taunt etc. would probably be a decent fit
    Medic is played with a lot of tact, so things like u turn/parting shot in reference to his necessary retreats to heal more targets could be a good fit
    Attacking moves are a bit hard to get around, you could certainly give him some funny references to his melee weapons like guillotine to reference the OP Ubersaw critrate

    Honestly I’d make Scout Water/Flying which not only takes into consideration his liquids but the guillotine, wrap assassin and his ability to double, triple jump with the atomizer and literally fly with the soda popper. *Which he can use in conjunction with the Atomizer for insane mobility.*
