Indiana was in the thick of last season's playoffs, so it would be difficult for any rookie to find his place here. What I like about coach Carlisle though is that he will give rookies their chance to shine if they work hard in practice. Furphy has the size and skillsets to be a mainstay in this league. It may not be with Indiana. I think he's better off teaming up with Matas Buzelis in Chicago, which is in a rebuilding mode. Both of them could form a very tall backcourt tandem.
Furphy might as well been turning it over with all those shots getting swatted. I'm sure he's realized that space won't come easy in the NBA. He's a phenomenal shooter. But you can't be just that, he has to be able to handle the ball. Learn those moves to get yourself open looks. Idk why they draft these "specialists" type of guy's.. They never work out most often.. You have to be good at many thing's. They talked about his ability to "move off ball and transition." I thought that was insanity.. lol I don't see it, moving a few steps is great.. But you have to do a lot more than that to be considered an off-ball player at this level. They made it sound like he was Steph Curry running around guys. Lol he's not an athlete, he can't defend. His shot percentage will plummet. So what does that leave you? I'm not trying to crap on the guy. I genuinely want him to succeed for our sake. I only hope he can evolve his game to the next level. I do think he can improve in all those areas. I'm not sure how much, he wouldn't have been my choice as the player for us. I wouldn't have picked any of these dude's. At one time I was somewhat intrigued by Freeman's energy and hustle. But as time went on, I also seen the clear avenue of player's I truly wanted us to pursue. I wouldn't mind Freeman as much. As long as they'd selected the other guy's I personally liked. Pacers need to be going after guy's who are tough. Energy and hustle player's, but also have offensive skills. There needs to be a good mix. You also need to go after those more prototype SF's, which they never do. That can also create their own shot at a pretty high level. That's what I liked about Jaylen Wells and Bobi Klintman. Wells you could more trust his shot at a consistent level. Use Klintman as that switchable athletic and skilled PF. That can bring you a lot of hustle, defense and can be a spark plug. He could play in the Obi role, been that type of player. Yet more defensive focused than Obi too. If I'm building a team, I want as much variety of skills I can get at each position too. This draft felt as if the Pacers didn't even care. Imo.. I'm looking at the player's they drafted and I'm like why??? You drafted another undersized C type player. ANOTHER PF that can't defend well, can't get a shot off, doesn't dribble in Furphy.. Then Newton who is a bigger guard, that doesn't do anything particularly well.. head scratcher. If Newton does improve, at his size for a guard. He could bring a little something off the bench. I hate to be a wet blanket person. But I'm someone that when I don't agree. I like to say why and can't help myself. When I am in agreement, I couldn't be more excited. I'm the happiest person for this team. With the amount of young guy's there is on the team.. I only hope we can manage to keep the right player's. Not messing this team up further. Because they want to push 3 year's or so into the future too early. Passing up the development phase and chemistry building. To manage a potential guarantee at the playoffs.. I felt like I was the only one ay time's who was excited for this team's success. Despite their defensive struggles, but enjoying their offensive abilities. If we would have taken a much more patient approach and waited until this off-season to make a move.. We would have easily been one of the favorites in the East, guaranteed. While I'm more if we make the playoffs, which we would have anyways. Then great, but I'm more focused on developing and chemistry. As I'm adding the best key pieces to help make a strong contender over what should have been the next few year's. The Pascal bs only hurt us and has handicapped our ability to do that. From day one and will continue to screw us over I'm afraid.. I hope they find a way.. Idk what this team will do wheh they lose Turner. I only hope they don't trade all our great young guy's to try and keep him now... Like trade Pascal instead if it comes to that.. Wouldn't make any sense.
I honestly feel like Enrique Freeman can break out. May be not this upcoming season but next. He has the McConnell hustle.
Furphy has a chance to provide what Mcbuckets was supposed to provide us last season
Agreed
Good show, the office staff really doing a great job with all the moves they made,is there anything else they can do?
