  • A new Yamaha alto came yesterday. It is a plastic instrument, but its sound is very good. Here is my trial performance with this instrument.
    Please take a look at another (newer) performance by this Yamaha: Mozart, Sonata K 292, by 2 recorders.
    However, despite the good sound, this instrument has a defect also: clogging is heavier than others, e.g., Aulos (plastic) and wood instruments. It may take a longer time in order to tame this instrument!

    Very useful video. I bought the flute.
    The Japanese music (Rokudan) was the most enjoyable part.

    This is amazing! Can you please tell me where to find sheet music for this theme?

    Thank you. It’s a beautiful sound. I like the hint of hollowness.

    Nice playing. This is the recorder I was thinking about getting...until you mentioned the clogging. Is it a condensation issue perhaps? Are you still having this issue with the instrument? Thanks, good reviews are hard to come by and there's no way to try it out before buying it.

      Depending on your own experience (with recorder), this drawback can be overcome if you warm the instrument well enough!

      @@soshichiuchii Ok that makes sense. I'm just getting started with recorder actually. I've only just played around a little on a cheap German fingering soprano recorder. I gained an interest in the alto recorder after watching several videos and I just ordered the YRA-402B last night! Looking forward to getting started learning! Thanks for your input!

      It does get clogged a lot. I use a hot water bottle to warm it up before use then it's fine for a while. Then I keep alternating between different recorders (all resin Yamaha) so that they can get heated up again by the water bag. You can also get an electric bag instead. It really takes the work out of warming up the instrument.

    I own it as well, I just noticed it gets clogged up a lot faster than my other plastic altos

      @soshichiuchii  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, that's true. But the cause is clear: the windway is narrower (e.g., in comparison with Autos alto). However, if you tame the instrument, say, a few months, and try to warm it before your performance, the problem should disappear.

    I'm leaning towards buying a Yamaha over the Aulos in a plastic alto, and I would wonder if you have compared this 402b to one of the 300 series Yamaha altos? From listening, it seems the 402b is towards the airy/flutey sound of the Aulos, but not as strong in that direction, so it might really be a great compromise, between the more focused tone of the 300's and the breathy, many harmonics (?) tone of the Aulos. Does that make sense?

      Nearly 40 years ago, I was totally disappointed by Yamaha plastic recorders. Then I met Aulos Symphony series some 10 years ago and liked them (kleine sopranino, sopraino, soprano, and alto). And a couple of years ago I tried Yamaha 402b, because a famous pro-player recommended it. I liked its sound; I never tried 300 series, because of my unplesant memories. Now I have found Zenon Bressan model (A=415); although it is expensive, it is a very good instrument. That's all I can say.

      I have a Aulos sopranino so I can't say direct comparsion, but my Yamaha ecodears sounds less plastic than than the Aulos sopranino
