      The thing is, Japan and many Asian countries in particular have people whom are overworked. There is a LOT of pressure and many people who fall short of expectations end up wallowing in misery ESPECIALLY men. I mean, the concept of a salaryman exists in Japan for a reason.
      These people most often have no real relationships outside of work, have no social life period, are not in any kind of position to date or feel as if they aren't good enough and idol culture gives these people a sense of "hope." They get to live out a fantasy through those they admire and them getting caught dating ruins that image for people. Think about why people play games, it is a form of escapism. There is a reason why Japan in particular makes some of the best games and media in the world, the nation prides itself essentially on escapism.
      Think about what they have started doing to certain characters in media like the hulk. They make him look pathetic and ruin the fantasy of those who admired that hero or wanted to be similar to him, it is the EXACT same thing in essence going on here, the difference is the image being sold is of real physical people and not characters though considering most idol agencies expect their idols to act a particular way to gain fanbase attention, they are essentially fake people being marketed as real.
      You can imagine what kind of problem that causes...

    Parasocial jokes aside, I think it's hella wholesome if a community comes together and support a single person as their source of motivation. Even more wholesome if they wholeheartedly support their idol's IRL and the idol does their best for their community too.
    I stand by a community that is built around support rather than worship!

    • @Name-nq7tj
      @Name-nq7tj 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      I think the differnce is the amount of viewers though. I think with a viewership in the thousands it's possible to have a community like this. But if you have a million viewers for instance it only takes like 100 crazy viewers to totally change how the community appears to react to things like this as the few crazy ones will be going on about it constantly and the other people won't care about it and so won't talk about it.

    As long as an idol or a vtuber is honest about being in a relationship or at least doesn't lean into the whole "girlfriend/boyfriend experience", it's nobody else's business whether they have a relationship. However, if they intentionally farm with simps by pretending to be close with them while being with someone else then they are just asking for trouble.

    • @quixadhal
      @quixadhal 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Well, it's important to remember that an Idol, in Japan, is a career. You aren't doing it for your own enjoyment, you're doing it to build a career and make money for the company that sponsors you. Idols in Japan get dropped by their sponsors if they are caught drinking, smoking, or being in a relationship because it removes the aura of perfection that the company is grooming.
      It's not uncommon for Japanese idols to have huge chunks of their lives made fully public because the people who follow them, and invest in them, want to know all the details of their lives, and so those lives have to match the image the company is trying to project. If not, then it hurts the brand.
      The closest thing I could compare it to in the west is.. imagine if some model were known for their amazing red hair, and a whole brand was build around that image... and then they decided to dye their hair some other color, or it was discovered that they wore a wig.

    Let's be honest. Shylily transcends the usual Vtuber design. How many cat girls, fox girls, demon girls and such have we seen? Shylily stands out. Her personality and scat sounds are adorable. Thanks to her, I've warmed up to the idea of non-ironic Vtubers.

    • @YasaiTsume
      @YasaiTsume 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      I think she herself gives alot more to the design. It's one thing to rock a cute and bubbly model, it's another to stream with that sort of energy.
      As you've said, there are tons of catgirls, doggirls, foxgirls, but what makes a character more memorable is the person behind the model giving the characteristic you will expect from the image. I've seen so many vtuber/pngtuber (respect to them) that rock a model but give off an energy which doesn't fit the design, if that makes sense.

    • @Verasoul
      @Verasoul 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@YasaiTsume Definitely. Everything that I've seen of Shylily works to compliment her persona. On the surface, you could just say she's another coomer-bait Vtuber, but you watch her for just a bit and you see how much effort she puts into being the best social host possible. It's very hard to see her as her old grainy IRL self. While there are several Vtubers that I enjoy as comedians. Shylily is the only one that I entertain the idea of her being a real anime girl. Just a bit before I let reality take me back down to touching grass. I definitely wouldn't be one of those guys driving a "Virgin4LIFE" Shylily automobile, but I get it. I get why they chose her.
      That may be why I (and a lot of the internet) am so taken with Neuro-sama as well. That little fictional daughter of ours feels more real than plenty of content creators. It helps that Vedal is always present at least behind the scenes, but she really has become larger than life.

      the only reason why Rushia broke the NDA is because the "friend" was a tattletale. I remember that she was in a really bad mentality at that time and as we all do, if we have bad experience, we tell it to a friend.
      Unfortunately, that "friend" used her as content because he has a youtube channel. He "leaked" everything because, as he said, "Since they were leaked, I can probably talk about it" although the "leak" actually came from him.
      TLDR: If the "friend" just be a friend and shut up, then the "leak" wouldn't happen. No leaks means no one would know, which means no problem. Rushia's problem was trusting the wrong "friend" with sensitive information.

    The funny part is that idols also get fired if they talk to fans, so theres literally no chance for these fans to get with their favorite idol regardless of their dating status. They can't have a private boyfriend and they can't get too close with fans so these superfan whales are at the highest level of irrational hope.
    Irrational hope seems to be the biggest issue within idol culture in Japan, for some reason japanese people have become hopeless romantics and do crazy stuff just for the fantasy of a nonexistant love story. Thats the problem with the Host Clubs aswell, women literally sell themselves on the street just so that they can give more money to their favorite host in hopes that they'll become a couple, knowing very well that these men flirt with them as a profession. They all know it yet they spend their life savings for the sake of irrational hope. When surveyed they even admit that. They don't sell themselves on the streets because they struggle with paying for food or college, or because they want a new handbag, it's because they think they need just alittle bit extra cash so that they can live happily ever after with their favorite host idol. Dudes who drive expensive cars and live i penthouses because these chicks pay them 100k for a single bottle of champaigne.

    The people who profit from parasocial relationships need to understand what they are getting paid for.
    People are giving you money for you to stand as an avatar for something.
    When you don't do that, you're failing to deliver on the promised product.
    This is what an idol is, and it's why you shouldn't have one. A -fallen idol- will always be hated as much as they were loved. Since you are human, you cannot actually live up to the idol you pretend to be. You're destined to fail and be hated. Just don't do it.

    Gotta say, the only time I have an issue with "finding out about partners" is when that partner then suddenly keeps making appearances or the content shifts toward them (for the worse). I've seen some channels and creators go downhill hard, by either shoving their SO in as many videos as possible or fawning over them all the time.
    If someone's just like "my bf brought home some food" and then it pivots into a talk about that food/culture/cooking, that's great. Perfectly normal. As long as the content doesn't shift to lovey-dovey bullshit completely derailing the stream/video, there's no reason to care.

That is why japanese idols, teen/young acors/actresses and even voice actresses has some kind of relationship ban in their contracts. I am kinda fascinated by how people hate Haruhi 2nd season cause of the "lazy time repeat for multiple episodes", mostly saying that it was fucking tedious and/or boring to watch the same stuff happen few times. What fascinates me is that in that part of the show MC and we by proxy learn that that shit - aka that time repeat stuff - happened like tens of thousands of times, and the best girl Yuki, being basically a recording machine - watched those same events happen for all those 15k+ times, so like if you get angry you saw 20 minutes of an episode 8 times, imagine how you would feel if you actually lived up those few days that those episodes encompass for 15 fucking thousands times and you remember them all cause thats you are that kind of a being.
    That part for me was what pushed the overall world of Haruhi from like 9/10 to 10/10.
    Liked the movie about Haruhi disappearing too.

    20:00 I don't think these people need to be attractive to you.
    It's healthy to get out your anger if you're angry.
    WHat you are expressing isn't a healthy attitude, it's a societally popular and contricting attitude, that you aren't allowed to be human and express yoru rage.
    This is the type of guy that DOESN'T go on a shooting spree, and instead breaks rackets, these people you love so much are eventually those that kill their wives/husbands when they snap from holding it all in for everyone elses benefit to look good.
    People don't need to act a certain way for you because you find their alternative behaviour "cringe"
    Destroying your racket doesn't hurt anyone either, it's a racket, the only thing that's truly cringe in this world is calling other peoples behaviour that doesn't fit your sensibilities cringe.

      It's true that it isn’t healthy to bottle up your anger, but neither is throwing a physical tantrum on live television to the embarrassment of yourself, your friends, your family, and your business associates.
      Alana never said you couldn't express your anger, never said you weren't allowed to be human, nor did she even imply as such. She only said that she doesn't find this type of behavior attractive and that is totally fair. And that’s not some kind of “unhealthy attitude” ingrained into her by society, it’s a standard and one that’s not even that high. If anything, it’s low enough to be a tripping hazard.
      It doesn’t matter if the guy who busted up a racket isn’t the kind of guy to go shooting people, that doesn’t change the fact that the behavior he exhibited was, in fact, cringe. It was more than cringe, it was childish, immature, unprofessional, and showed a great lack of restraint on his part. There was nothing “alternative” about lashing out in front of a live audience and him not hurting other people in the process doesn’t exempt his behavior from being problematic either.

Like you were never really a fan of them if you do, and also you're a hypocrite, because there ain't no way you would have a problem if you were their significant other, even though you would be causing the exact same scenario to the fans that only like the person because they're single. Unless they're delusional enough to think the entire community deserves the person to be their sex slave at once or something.
    Idk why entertainers like Idols in some countries are seen only as something to look at that aren't able to actually have their own lives. People should like them and be fans of them because they're a cute person that is trying to spread joy to their viewers, not because they think they can be in a relationship with them (or because the person is single, they shouldn't need to be single).
    And I say that as someone that I must admit, is attracted to people with jobs like idols and other similar things, but I don't see them as "they must be my girlfriend or I'll say the meanest things I can to them" I see them as a person I like because of how hard they're trying to make everyone feel happy by trying their best in their performances. And because I feel sympathetic that many of them sacrifice their own happiness for mostly people that don't appreciate that that's why they became an idol, not to be seen as an object that is owned by all the "fans".
    Also honestly this is why those countries have problems with their populations, because they condone people bullying their performers into being mindless puppets, because it makes money off desperate people. Those people should have always been acceptable losses as fans, and then eventually people would grow up and stop supporting people only because they think they have a chance at a relationship because the person is single. Eventually that would no longer be a monetary loss if they stuck up for people being able to live their own lives, as those kinds of viewers would no longer exist.

    The weatherwoman fiasco is not even the biggest issue of Japanese Idol Culture, there is a member (Minami Minegishi) of the famous AKB48, a Japanese girl group/idol group who had to shave her head in front of a live audience to show her remorse for being caught dating a man because there is a no dating clause in her contract.
    Since you're a Vtuber, I will pull a more grounded example. Hololive for example has three different branch, ID, EN and JP. ID is Indonesia, EN is English, and JP is Japanese. Most of the Hololive talents are women but there are men who are grouped as Holostars. There are members from HoloJP who have either been harassed for interacting with male talents or other male streamers, fired/forced to graduate due to having a relationship in the JP branch and EN members who are pushed by their viewers to not interact with men.
    Meanwhile in the Indonesia branch (Indonesian not having so much issue with cross gender collabs and parasocial relationships) roast the ever living hell out of people who bothered them without fear of backlash. The ID branch is considered the more "based" branch due to them not taking crap from their viewers and just do as they will, and the fans also roast those who acts out as well and not encourage gachikoi behaviors.

    To answer the question at the beginning... I think I'd be in the "I don't care" wagon, though I can see the appeal from the guy who said "That makes it hotter" xD
    And Japan is the worst for this type of thing, the entertainment industry in Japan and South Korea are horrendous toward their employee's who work in entertainment and the worst part is that it's in all "unsaid" rules. Purely because they can't make it an official rule due to legal reasons.
    Edit: As you keep bringing it up that it's in the contract. It isn't. It would illegal to put that into the contract since a person's personal relationship has nothing to do with someone's job, and thus a business cannot force someone to not be in a relationship. If they did have it in a contract, it steps into the area of a human rights violation and that would kill a business faster than one of their talents dating.
    Vtuber companies have basically been copy / pasted from how idol companies work, though from all the drama I've seen recently from Vtuber companies, I'd reason it's probably a lot worse in Vtuber companies than Idol companies for a variety of reasons. That said, the whole parasocial thing is not a good thing no matter the situation.

    27:29 cultural difference tho. In MURICA (and most western cultures) a hot chick having a BF/Husband isn't a deal breaker, simps will still simp thinking they'll get a shot. eastern culture is way different tho. She's now tainted forever in the eyes of the simpcels.

    Vox stream as in Vox Akuma? I've watched some streams and they seemed fine, but I don't watch his horny ASMR streams because I find it a little cringe, so if it's one of those I guess, but he seems pretty straight forward with his fans about separating himself from the fantasy roleplay and reminding them that he's a real person with a life outside of that. I think it's healthy that he sets boundaries, so it's really not as bad as this idol shit.

    If you can simp with a weather newscaster to the point that you'd spend $50 to... I don't know, get a handshake? Use that and ask a stranger and go to dinner. In PH, $50 is more than enough for like a whole days of going out with another person, transpo and foods included.
    I'm really amazed at people super simping at other people, vtuber, streamers, etc, that can buy their merch and be delusional enough to be their bf/gf? I mean, if you have that much money to spend on a stranger, I don't understand what's gatekeeping you from dating a friend or someone near you.
    I'm not directing at anyone, just in general.

    K-Pop Bands and Idols are not different from the girl and boybands in western culture. But most of those groups stopped like 20 years ago. If they would've been active today with the sharing culture of Social Media and the shamelessness from the Internet it would probably be the same.
    Also i bet that this is obviously a gender thing. I bet if a guy from a boyband (or K-Pop, Idol) would get a girlfriend, most of the fans would be loving that. I mean shipping is cool isn't it. But guys have a neediness that those idols, K-Pop and western musicians literally serve. And if you serve this feelings (agency or musicians themselves) they get these reactions.
    I would love to think different, but we need to be realistic.

    Wow idol rules, truly pathetic society there.
    Bunch of dumb redundant, and unnecessary rules tbh, sad people just have their life ruin because of it, and it has zero benefits at all for the individual.
    And then the hair shave, it gets worse, and is sad.
    honestly people be pretty much a pathetic person to get so worked up about other people lives, just saying, really cringe honestly, it's like people brain just doesn't rationalize and I just don't understand why the unreasonable hate people do, like i just sit at home and the many videos I've seen just makes me question if 90% of the planet are just npcs or not, they like have this reasoning that just like scripted in their brain and the don't go out of it, even if it harms them to an extreme degree.
    it's confusing for me, that people cannot see and connect what's literally Infront of them.
