@@epicshootsphotography5253 I do recall him giving Malinski a pretty nasty slash after a goal against last season, and he's been known to have a pretty fiery temperament, but I'm not sure if there was any real animosity in the locker room. Doubt we'll ever hear for sure. The Avs are pretty tight lipped about most things internally.
@@epicshootsphotography5253 he has been seen yelling at teammates after goals scored on him. He slashed kiviranta last season after he was scored on. So very much happened, unfortunately.
I think he's referring to the team not getting "more" for Burns, as well as their use of retention slots. It's a fair argument from certain perspectives, but for Grier (my opinion alone), his job was to clear cap space for the future and I think that's more important than the specific return.
I would have tried to get Gibson in Anaheim instead, the guy's a forgotten AAA goalie who was injured a whole lot these last 2-3 seasons, but he's back and finally 100% and even then Anaheim aren't using him as #1 goalie, I understand Dostal is on a good run (for the Ducks anyway), I guess his contract got in the way. Now Colorado have two backup goalies instead of a struggling one who has talent to be #1 as we have seen before (Georgiev) and I don't know that Blackwood or Wedgewood are better than Annunen, the sample size stats-wise is small for Annunen but I never saw any of these guys as even 1B goaltenders, solid backups only. I guess we'll see...
Gibson eats up something like 2M more cap space than Georgiev or Blackwood though. I agree that Gibson has shown to be a fantastic #1 over the years but that comes at a cost. Avs management are taking the risk that 2 "backups" will perform good enough to get them through the playoffs. Also it's possible that the Ducks didn't want anything the Avs were selling too. Blackwood has also had really solid numbers for being behind a team with little defensive help. He's been able to steal games for the Sharks against some really solid teams. Whatever happens, the Avs are certainly playing better in front of Wedgewood than they had been all year in front of either Annunen or Georgiev.
Blackwood was a salary dump for the Sharks. His contract is up at the end of the season. May as well flip him now for picks. The Sharks are playing the long game. They are building on the future.
Geo does make more. Geo also off contract next season. Avs did retain some of his cap - not sure if that equalized the goalies caps compared to eachother but I do believe geo still costs more. Either way with kovy the sharks lost some cap space and colorsdo cleared some up
Not sure about THGs take that we can flip georgi at the deadline. Unless he really steps it up and plays like .910 until the deadline i dont think anyone will take him
Georgiev was just too bipolar for a team that wants to win a cup or two, consistency is key, especially right now, the avs don't really have time to wait for georgiev to come off of his mood.
Avalanche needed a goalie, and the Sharks needed draft capital and Kovalenko who I'm sad to see go because he looks like a solid 10 year player. He is just getting used to the NHL, and long term if the Avs can't get another cup I think the Sharks won the trade.
The Avs were desperate for a starter, and it was a decent price. Giorgiev is not and will never be a starter. He is a below average goalie, and the Avs need to win now
Colorado blaming georgiev and annunen for all their problems but these trades do not fix Colorado's main problem, small non physical defensemen that can't clear their own crease. Geogiev & annunen couldn't stop what they couldn't see how will Wedgewood & blackwood solve this????
Just on the eye test, wedgewood is already looking much better than georgiev. The issue with colorado this season wasn't the crease clearing, it was getting beat on the breaks. Georgiev was giving up cupcake goals this season (4 on 8 shots vs buffalo before being pulled)

excellent interview. thg is evolving into a living legend.
Thanks for checking it out. THG is the man.
Always appreciate more Shannon content.
I am all aboard with Big Money Mike's decisions. 2 amazing defensive prospects, forward prospects galore, and Askarov in net. The future is teal!
Came to support THG ❤
Always good to see THG getting out there.
hockey guy and professor hockey are the best right now.
Love THGs thinking
Nice to see the Blackwood & Wedgewood tandem is back.
Shannon is way above the 2.5 minutes espn gives hockey !!!!
Shannon is my primary source. Has been for years now.
I just like listening to THG. I almost count days for the new power rankings release 😄
i like watching the post game sharks content and never knew you had a youtube channel, definitely subbing
Right on!
Nowadays I get my updates for Hockey from THG.
Love the Sharks this year and any channel smart enough to get Shannon on has my sub. Can't wait to watch more videos dude!
It’s like seeing your cousin at a picnic with his in laws family.
I like it but it feels odd.
Well done THG.
That is why why love THG
How am i gonna know the video started without the Welcome back :(
Celebrini faceoff percentage for an 18 year old is upper echelon. He has that Alpha Dog in him.
Problem was that he (Georgiev)) was blaming teammates for his problems, even striking teammates on occasion. Don't need that on a team.
Nailed it.
Where did you hear that? I’m an Avs fan and didn’t hear that. Georgiev sucks and glad to see him gone but I never heard that

THG says the criticism of some of Mike Grier's trades are "fair;" what trades are those? I am satisfied with his consequential moves to date

Kovalenko was getting outplayed by a younger prospect
Appreciate The Hockey Guy mentioning Gregoriev having blame dumped at His feet .... despite King George having the most wins in the NHL.
Did you watch his games? Guy was giving up cupcake goals that you expect to be saved. Not just once, but on multiple occasions.
Georgiev was just too bipolar for a team that wants to win a cup or two, consistency is key, especially right now, the avs don't really have time to wait for georgiev to come off of his mood.
Some nights he was REALLY GOOD. Others he would let in 3 cupcake goals and lose us the game
Him having most wins in the NHL had everything to do with the team and nothing to do with Fourgiev
How many of those wins did the avs have to make crazy comebacks and score 5 to 6 goals to offset him?
Recognition....
Avs have so much wood now
tripple wood

By not letting in 4 goals on 8 shots and always. Wedgewood has already made a huge difference
