- In this video, I ride Boston's Subway System on the Red Line and Green Line from Harvard to Prudential. The subway system is called "The T", short for MBTA: Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority. This ride is very unique in that it involves a heavy rail ride with a transfer to the light rail, all within fare control.

Silver line wasn’t suppose to be mbta promise light rail after the old elevated orange line was torn down instead they gave us silver line buses and try to pass them off as a rapid transit. So the truth is silver line is the old orange line elevated along Washington st starting at Nubian square.
When I ride on their trains, I feel safe compared to NYC's! Boston just feels safe imo.
lol That is becuss NYC is spiritual Babylon (where all sort of demons reside) an offshoot from ancient days and the very first Babylon where all races gathered to build the tower of Baal.
The Orange line is bad.
Avoid it!
I have been on the NYC subway and I felt pretty safe and not afraid at all.
I live in new york. there are only a few stations that you really don't want to be at at certain points at night but for the most part they feel the same. the thing with Boston is that its far cleaner but the stations just feel older and more generic. Downtown crossing is extremely underwhelming and very cramped in terms of ceiling space. It just feels worse kept even though its cleaner
Thanks for showing the subway & light rail in Boston. Why in the world would transit put fabric on seats on a subway train? Yuck!! Oh well, at least the train looked clean, the seats are suspect 🤔
They oldest subway system in the country. They started building the stations at the beginning of the 1900's
Back in the day, T drivers on red line were so nice to wait if they saw you running, esp at night when trains were less frequent. Hope they still do that! Thank you
That’s cool! Thank you so much for watching
Oh man. The flange squeals from their train wheels is something else 😅 I like it though haha...
Awesome video!
Glad you liked it!
The cell phone underground only started around 2010-2012 for the Cambridge side of the river. Before that only T-Mobile(Then as VoiceStream) and Sprint wired underground on the Boston side. But that started around 2003-ish. So funny thing was if people were om their phone on the Boston side of the river you'd see them try to hurry up and finish before going into the tunnel by Kendall.
Very nice! It’s good they have service underground
Sad those clueless people who let the door slam on people behind @36:40
A few things. A true Bostonian only refers to the train/trolley system as the "T".The others are called the "commuter rail "
Secondly, The green line may be a light rail, but it's called a "trolley.".
Lastly, I'm hoping you take a shorter route from Harvard Square to the "Ptu" moving forward. It's a 10 minute bus ride! Lol
Commuter rail network runs out of Boston through Massachussets ' the T covers the inner city and suburbs.
Clean is a lot better than dirty or smelly.
The Green Line can get confusing with all the different branches. The Red and Green lines run efficiently, albeit the squeaky noise. Thank you for sharing this informative subway ride, AK! 🤗
You’re welcome! I know I got confused with all the green line branches the first time I took it
They're efficient when they're not derailing 5 times a week.
Heyy I wanna do much know you in person, I'm Brazilian who lives in Boston, following your channel since Brazil 🇧🇷🇺🇲
Thank you, Ken! You've inspired me to take my family to Boston this upcoming summer. I appreciate the videos.
My pleasure, hope you have a great trip there
I lived there back in the late 80s ' nice memories ' see the T hasn't changed much ' is high time I visited again ' been 30 +years .
Love your vid
Welcome to the neighborhood Kenneth! I’m closer to Symphony station but the Pru is just down Huntington Ave. Hope you ate at Eataly, then walked further to Symphony Hall, Northeastern, my barber =) and the MFA. I’ve lived in the nabe for decades, and I wouldn’t live anywhere else in Boston!
The green line train is so squeaky
Rode the Red Line many times from Central to Harvard Square.
Nice looking station and enjoyable subway ride , who could ask for more 🙂Thank you for sharing this experience with us A K 🙂👍!!!
Their subway station is clean, which is a big plus!
You’re welcome! It was a very efficient subway ride
@@trustnoone3007 Notice the ticket office which was opposite the bottom of the first escalaters has closed/moved ' originally it was in a small stand further to the left until about a year before I left.
Honestly, how could you not notice the Harvard bus tunnel in front of you at 1:12 where the blue lights were at. That is literally the only bus tunnel in America, if not, the whole world with a direct subway connection. Fact: the local trolleybuses used to serve the tunnel as well and they had left side doors to accommodate the lower busway where the right side faced the wall.
i visited boston for my birthday last year and rode some of the red line to explore, but didn't notice that tunnel at all! ill have to take a look again next time.
That’s pretty cool! I didn’t notice it at first. I knew some of the bus lines in Harvard were trolleybuses but it’s cool where they end up.
Does the silver line connection at Park St not count?
@@Ben-tt3cg No because Park St. doesn't have a bus tunnel, but people can walk through a passageway to DTX station to take it from the street. South Station also has this feature.
@@yoyobass100 oops i meant to say south station. the silver line connection is a stairwell up from the red line
I live in Boston we have the worst trains ever 🤣😂
But your trains are clean! I'll take that any day over NYC's subway trains.
Yes, we do! I was surprised how smooth and quick this trip was!
Seriously, these are disgusting!
@@trustnoone3007 I disagree, I think NYC Subway trains are maintained a lot better than MBTA trains.
this might surprise a few, but I actually had cell service in the tunnel of the downtown portion of Ottawa's LRT, of all places
AK, thank you for showing your viewers the "T" and thank you for _highlighting_ the fact that basically it's a hodgepodge of sorts. Most people think of raised platforms and trains when they think *_subways_* , and the "T" is way more than just that (as you know, and as you have shown in recent streams). The "T" really is quite UNIQUE. 👍
Very true, it’s a complex system with many different methods of transportation.
It would be nice if this was in the 80s or the 90s.
The MBTA system has changed a lot since then!
I was there during about 84 to 90 period ' used to ride the T a lot mainly the 73 and 71 between Belmont where I lived and Watertown where I worked week days.
I like The T Train. Can't you still get tokens to use? We bought tokens for the red line to the orange line to the green line to get to The Fleet Center and back to green line to orange line to red line second train to Randolñh where we left our minivan parked back in the year 1998.
Thats an incredible station!
It really is!
The redline car you rode… was built in the 60s!! The 1500 series. (and it’s still rolling today…). Pretty neat. Retrofitted, of course.
The train you're on could be (is probably) over thirty years old! All they did was replace the seats. Some of the recently replaced Orange Line trains were forty years or older.
BTW, the trolley car you're riding IS one of the newer ones!!
Thank you, Ken! You've inspired me to take my wife to Boston this upcoming spring/summer. I appreciate the videos.
Very cool, I’m glad I inspired you to take the trip.
The MBTA stored value card is called the Cha-lee Cahd. You would have known that if you’d pahked your caaa in Hahvid Yahd before catching the train at Hahvid station 😄
There is no parking allowed in Harvard Yard.
@@robertsabharwal9787 Apparently you weren’t in the proper fraternity 😃
Amazing riding tour in Boston
Thanks!
My friend Dave lives in Arlington, Mass, public housing . Having no car , elderly in poor health, he described a recent T nightmare over the phone. He always had high anxiety claustrophobia . So he had a panic attack when the driver suddenly stopped without explanation and left the passengers seemingly LOCKED INSIDE. For a long ten minutes Dave was banging on the closed windows and looking for a way out. When the T-driver , a young Black man , returned , he was nearly apoplectic with rage .
Are not T-Subway drivers well instructed on leaving the bus with passengers aboard ?
The Red Line train you were riding was a Pullman Standard 1500-1600 series. And that new trolley you saw on the Green Line is called the CAF 9.
Hey Ken, idk if you’ve noticed, but most of the trolleys on the Green line, like the one you rode in this video, sound like the R142A & R188 trains that are in NYC
The R143 as well, and all MARTA rolling stock.
Great transit vid as always. Remember your NYC vids where you'd take the subway to last stop in Manhattan / Inwood and walk around? Many opportunities in Boston as well. May I suggest Cleveland Circle or Boston College.
He took the “A” train. I remember.
来到bos 一直都用公共交通 方便 便宜 地下铁快捷
I can go for a train ride today. That's my favorite part about Boston. I miss it sometimes
it's probably faster to use the concourse between Park St and DTX and take the Orange Line, rather than wait for one of four services on the Green Line. Also the walk between Copley and Back Bay Station is a fairly short walk
Love the clanging bells as green line train enters @20:10
I lived in Boston in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood in the 1980s. Had a car but used the “T” to get downtown, the airport, and to Cambridge. So I am familiar with the stations and trains shown. ( I think the store opposite the Harvard Square station used to be a jewelry store, but I digress…) Anyway thanks for bringing up memories for someone now living in a place with little public transit.
Makes me miss my hometown of Boston and the many days I used to ride the T.
I Rode all the lines, except Silver, Commuter rail & ferrys
aha one time i rode it the other way actually so cool AK nice content 💯
I know this mostly this route once jfk all south Middleborough to South station to park place and once I got at center
Yea I remember that 3yrs 8yrs ago
Thank you! This was very helpful and I’m encouraged to try using the T instead of Lyfting everywhere while on vacation on Oct!
A bus for a train line? New York would neva😂😂😂😂😂
Oh but they have. I was watching an interesting video that explained how the Q53 SBS was technically supposed to be a train line. One of the proposed ideas for the Interboro Express (IBX) is a SBS (I hope not!!!) I really hope they do a light rail.
So, there is no announcement system in trains for next station or something like that? I think my favorite in train, at the station automated announcement is the CTA - Chicago
I have ridden the subway in NYC and the metro in DC. NYC metros are pretty nasty, imo, while most DC stations seem to be pretty clean. I have not ridden the Boston metro, but it seems like a middle ground between the two. Clean but old, and would probably feel safer to ride (in terms of crime) when compared to NYC. For anyone who has ridden all three, would you say that is a fair assessment?
So Action kid? Are you now living in the Boston area? Or was the series of Boston area videos based on a visit there in the recent years? I'm a native born New Yorker from the Bronx and also lived a few years in the early 80s there. Particularly? Up in Salem . Anyway enjoyed the video. There's a funny story about the Charley card based off an old comedy song made decades ago. See if you can find it? And listen to it? Anyway. Also I personally think ? Looking back to my days on both city's subway train systems in both N.Y.C. & Boston ? I think the MBTA "T" system is a bit cleaner and doesn't have the crime related stuff people are in some cases going to see in the Big Apple. Anyway thanks again.👋🥸
❤❤❤
I used to ride the Red Line a lot from Ashmont, while growing up in Dorchester. Miss living out in Boston.
Wow, that is so expensive, I remember when it was 5cents, 10 cents, 25 cents. 50 cents. 75 cents, I think $1,50. I haven't ridden in a long time.
You should have taken a left after exiting the fare gate, the escalator will take you upstairs directly to the Prudential Mall, no need to go outside.
Rofl They dug till they couldn't 'dig big' anymore, AK.🕳👷 Oh no!
Kudos. Thank you.
This was weird and nostalgic. I have been in those places thousands of times.
I remember when tunnel lights were an incandescent lightbulb.
Are there day-card options for the Charlie Card? And can I buy one with debit or is it cash only?
😊 I built the Boston subway system.. true story
Thank you.
Ah I remember the metal screeching like it was yesterday
Would have been faster to walk
Quieter than I remember
Light rail - trolley
Nothing like New York
I love riding the T
How far is grandpa
Awesome video!
Wow, Boston's underground differs a lot from our underground here in London. Thanks for the video! 😊
love Boston mass transit.
Hey kid, move around more the footage is boring
