I remember recently that I passed a street/race orientated built up BRZ during a snow storm with my Forester. Was thinking "man I bet he wishes he had the Topher's build right about now". Awesome driving as always my man, love the videos.
to anyone worried about driving the BRZ or GR86 in snowy climates, I have an AT GR86 in the chicagoland area. get some winter tires, and drive like a smart person. that's all it takes to enjoy this car in winter.
Also fr, I use blizzacks in upstate NY, loads of snow and freezing rain here and I’ve never had an issue. The predictability/ stability of the car makes it super easy to recover if you do kick unintentionally
Man that a beautiful wheel and tire setup. Nice to see a BRZ lifted instead of slammed. Gotta be way more fun to drive when you don’t have to worry about every little bump
This was the first year I've bought and used snow tires, living my entire life in the midwest. I've always just had all seasons. I got some Pirelli P Zero Winters for my b8 s4 and it's incredible what I've been missing out on. I've had zero situations where I've lost control (when not intended). Not once have I spun the tires when accelerating. And the braking is so much better!
@@darylcunanan8972 It's perfectly fine as long as you have good winter tires and can drive RWD in winter. Make sure you get rust protection since the salts here are crazy.
I love your winter tire driving videos with the BRZ RWD, I love it here with my Mercedes GTR I always put winter tires every winter season and gives me the reassurance not to spin and crash haha!
Such a cool car for cheap money. Rear drive is always more fun in the winter. So much more control if you know what to do. I remember having a blast back in the day with my Fox body and SN95 built Mustangs.
@@CommandoMaster I drove them with regular tires and snow. I was young and dumb with no fear. As long as you know how to drive, it’s all good fun. Winter tires helps a ton and makes it more fun, as you can approach speed faster. Newer mustangs are fun in snow. They are a lot safer easy to drive than old ones. Still not sure how people smack them up all the time.
I installed the second gen sandwich plate on my first gen. It's nearly identical to the forester one; its bungs are just angled nicer for routing the two hoses in the BRZ. It does warm up noticeably faster!
A shame that the type r isn't fun for you in the winter. The Elantra N has been a ton of fun in the snow. I drift with traction control on sport, and you can slide so easily. Traction fully off is a riot. Not to mention that there's still a manual parking break. I'm also convinced that the stock 25mm rear sway bar plus the trunk brace makes the rear end super tight and willing to slide. I spun out with traction off on the first corner, it was plenty of fun in the half off setting.
About the steering feedback you mentioned at 15:28, have you thought about changing the steering rack bushings to polyurethane ones, and adding steering rack braces? Cusco makes both of those, and I heard they greatly improve steering feel even though they don't really contribute to faster lap times haha
Hi topher how many miles do you have on the car? I really wanna get this car as my daily driver but really hesitant because of the engine failure issues.
Are you still using the throttle mapper? That has been my biggest issue with winter driving, the default throttle mapping makes it really hard to modulate correctly
do you prefer these winter tires over your Michelin X-ice snow tires from your other video? i have a 2019 Subaru brz raiu edition and I'm trying to figure out the best studded winter tire for driving in downtown Calgary this winter. awesome videos by the way! p.s. I've never drove my brz in the winter so I'm pretty sketched out.
Snow tires are great but you still need to be a good driver if you drive a real wheel drive car in the snow. An inexperienced driver would get this car wrapped around a tree.
Love that new ducktail spoiler. Looks very cool! I've always loved rally cars. How does the 1.5" lift affect your everyday driving in the car? What would be the negative effects? I wonder if it would be worth it to lift a car just for the raised ride height and rally car look.
Nice stuff always. Q: You live in Dubai where there is no snow no rain no fog no hills (only the desert which you will use a big truck for), what would you choose for a fun AND reliable car, WRX, BRZ or Elantra N? Thanks
BRZ / GR86 unless you plan on driving on sand dunes where all wheel drive would be better. Snow and sand are pretty comparable and I chose a GR86 to drive all year around in Canada where we get a lot of snow in winter. I would only choose all wheel drive if I planned on driving off road. Paved, gravel or dirt roads are a blast to drive in a rear wheel drive car.
Sounds like a great option, budget or otherwise! Do they really handle like the Blizzaks in the snow? The Bluzzaks I had were some of the best handling in the snow. Does Falken have a motorsports program?
I love the safari BRZ build. I’m so used to seeing ricer builds that are lowered to hell 😂 An OEM+ BRZ is the best type of BRZ imo (the GR86 looks better riced out). Just curious, where did you get your duckbill spoiler from? I’ve been trying to find OEM color-matched ones like yours.
I bought one knowing full well the advertised engine ''issues'' (RTV at first and then the low oil pressure on sweeping right hand turns) and I've researched the topic extensively. Most of the reported cases happened to a few people that tracked their cars but the story got a lot of exposure because Toyota, unlike Subaru refused to cover it under the warranty which was extremely stupid on their part. I believe it's an issue that happens to a very small percentage of buyers and people shouldn't let it dissuade them from buying one because they're simply too fun to drive.
Yes, yes! Dedicated winter tires in winter, hell yeah! C'mon, America, wake up, I believe in you, wake up: Summer tires for summer, winter tires for winter. All-seasons are widow makers, they are dangerous. Those 2' of stopping distance or 10% of grip can be crucial. When to swap them? When daily temperatures fall under 43ºF, put the winter ones. When daily temperatures raise above 45ºF, put the summer ones. It's not a question for California, Arizona, Louisiana, Florida, Hawaii-summer tires whole year round. It's not a big deal for Colorado, Montana, Michigan, Alaska-you just swap them. It's kind of a bummer for, say, State of Oregon, where winters are soft, you put winter wheels for like two weeks to one month. But your life and life of your passengers (and health) is way more important.
When it rains in Florida I pretend I’m you driving my brz in the snow
Sunday morning. Coffee in hand. A new Topher BRZ video. Excellent.
Just bought myself a BRZ after watching your videos and man you were definitely not wrong it's a joy to drive!
Damn, Chris...the BRZ is looking great! I love how you've made a Subie Safari.
Thanks Andre! Always wanted to do this, hopefully it catches on, so much fun.

the cars u are talking about almost look exactly the same the inside and the outside the toyota gr86 2023 and this car
they are the same car @@no_one67-

Yeah winter tires are worth it. My AWD Mazda cx-30 stock tires were not good in the winter so I put some Blizzaks on and they made a huge difference.
I really do love that spoiler. Does so much for the look of the car
lifting it was a good idea. i can see the intention of striking a balance between sportiness and usability.
That was the goal! The extra freedom you get from a little taller ride height is so nice. Less stress driving & exploring, really enhances the fun imo
Its crazy the day you upload this is the day it finally snows here in Calgary, AB, Canada.
Is it fine to get a Brz for daily car in Calgary? Planning to get one

Your BRZ series has made me want one so badly. Gotta keep saving $
Lifted BRZ with a tow hitch is an insane idea, love it.
Enough with the BRZ snow driving already, you’re gonna make me buy one 😛

Can u drive Mustang Gt in snow with winter tires

That tread pattern is beautiful, actually.
Crazy its 5° in Michigan, but here in minnesota we have no snow and its going to be 43° today!
bruh when i lived in ann arbor, on days like this, i would stay home until they plowed & put down the salt. awesome video.
i love when car reviews actually have a car they mod
Those tire look amazing for sure !
Duckbill looks great!
I´d like the sound of the motor when the car is on the highway with few traffic jam.
I’m entertained but don’t get snow in Australia. Still love your vids mate
Would love to see how a VB WRX fairs in those conditions.
Can u test drive a Mustang GT in snow with winter tires?
I would kill to have those physical switches and knobs in the WRX. Seeing this makes me hate the center dash tablet so much more

my brz has been great in the snow just gotta make sure to have weight in the back

I might look into those, just don’t want to introduce more NVH into the car.
nah dude, that duckbill looks really good
Hi topher how many miles do you have on the car? I really wanna get this car as my daily driver but really hesitant because of the engine failure issues.
Just shy of 10k
I get so confused between the Topher and Tedward and winding road magazine

nice. i have the same wheels for my Focus RS for the winter.

I do. They’re not quite as good in the snow/ice but so much better to drive on wet and dry roads.
Hakapellita studded might be your best bet
How about in heavy winter? Like here in Calgary, Canada?

still using pedal commander in this video?

where are you from? You can get it anywhere in the world if you really want it

Where did you get the duck spoiler from?

Any chance to see TVR Griffith on Your channel? 😇🤗

Why cant you run studded tires in Michigan? In the north we love having studded tires hahah
"very easy to drive and control" and then spins the wheel like a madman
Nice driving on roads like that without pedestrians.
Is that the only option for the tach?
How much lift and what did you use?
hoping to get a older wrx soon

I could never xD, I have a winter beater that I drive because I don't trust myself driving rwd in the winters here
What phone mount do you use? @thetopher
