  • Good morning everyone so today we had a delivery going to this customer in which we gave them an hour call ahead and he had a whole attitude on the phone before we even got there which is the story you were hearing when the video first turned on. pulled up to the customer's house and he doesn't understand what a curbside delivery means and then begins to tell us that he doesn't want the material unless we can fit it through a gate by wiggling the machine through and we had not even seen what the site looks like so we offer to just take the material off and see what we can do when we got up there but that wasn't good enough for him. Customer refused to order We ended up bringing the order back to the shipper.

Brand new house. Went to deliver all the appliances. Karen at the door said that if we got so much as a spec of dust or dirt inside the house she would sue. Called the manager and he said "Bring it all back". We did. Life is too short to take it seriously or to deal with Karens.

@@anthonybarefoot6744 my cousin worked at Lowes and I would hear so many horror stories.. she has autism (high functioning so if you weren’t told you wouldn’t know) and she was on lunch talking to her friend / coworker and it came up and her manager overheard and unprovoked started treating her like shit and saying, “I heard you have autism, I hope you understand I’m not going to be any easier on you because of that because no one in the real world cares about your autism…” and her manager would just be mean and cruel to her based on something she overheard two people talking about. And she would say it every week at least once just to be cruel, she would ask my cousin to do something and follow it with, “and you better have it done right and on time and I don’t wanna hear excuses or about your autism” all un promoted as my cousin never complained or brought up her autism or try to use it as an excuse or crutch… she literally just mentioned it one time in casual conversation to a coworker/friend. Finally I told her that she doesn’t have to put up with that kind of abuse and what is essentially being treated poorly due to a disability so I had my lawer contact the store and say that he had heard from a “customer” me.. that overheard this manager verbally abusing a worker about her autism and that is a clear OSHA violation that also violates the Americans With Disabilities Act so you might want to stop doing that as you are literally breaking a law. My cousin never heard that bitch say anything about it again and the horrible woman apologized and luckily my cousin got the hell out of there the second she graduated college and now has a great job in entertainment and got the job based on her senior thesis on the portrayal of autistic people in media as well as their mistreatment in the workplace. So there is some justice and a happy ending

Chris, I agree! The trucker offered to get the material as close as possible which is already above and beyond what the customer paid for. Good thing the trucker filmed this with his phone. Many times these customers will lie about the delivery person and say that they were insulting, threatening and/or used bad language. I have over 30 yrs of managment experience in delivery companies and I've seen this. However, there are folks out there who are friendly to drivers, offer them water and may even tip the driver. Those customers make that drivers day.

No doubt. When I took delivery of a gun safe, I made sure that they were bringing it into my house and putting it where I wanted it. You work this out up-front. The owner-lady made sure it was in the delivery instructions and asked me questions like: is it being taken up or down flights of stairs, are there any hard corners that will cause problems, etc. That's good, that's what you want. It cost me an extra $50 and was worth every penny. It was 5 minutes of work for them, the hydraulic thing they used to move the 665-lb. gun safe was pretty cool to see in action. I was respectful but on the odd occasion when a customer got stubborn or abusive I’d stop what I was doing, look at him and say, “Look, I don’t have time for this. Do you want your stuff or not?” Usually he relented but one time a guy shouted an cursing at me for parking on the designated spot to drop off his items instead of a parking lot across a busy street. I was once hired by a paper company to deliver a load of hard wood pulpwood from one of their staging yard to the paper mill. When I got to the mill the man at the scale house found 2 cypress logs on the bottom of the load and wanted me to pull them out of the load. I tried to explain to him that the wood belonged to the company and they loaded it from their staging yard. Long story short I took the load to a chip mill and sold it, and claimed it for payment for the freight.

Olympia in the middle of the night in a blizzard to pick up red wood. It was for a school project on the side of a mountain in Puyallup, Washington. It was a mud construction sight.. with stacks of junk everywhere.. they wanted me to go off-roading way into the back corner of their mess.. turn around in the mud and back up right to the front of their mini 20 ft storage container to off load some of their order.. 🤣(probably never even seen a semi much less understand how it maneuvers or how much room it takes to turn one around).. then they had to wait for union laborer to gather together to think about how to hand off load what they wanted.. then after cigarette breaks and i guess wasting as much time as they legally could and certainly when they wanted to.. very rude, not courteous, offensive and ridiculously unnecessary.. they picked up one piece at a time walk it into their trailer move junk to place their piece.. then take another cigarette break.. we could of offloaded up front.. on parking lot.. they could of been paid for six months to carry it back to their foot locker/tackle box on their atv.. but the foreman called the company and said to their door meant that trailer since their was no door yet.. it was mean and stupid.. i was hoping the truck would get stuck and maybe the tow truck would get stuck too.. but eight hours later.. i got out. happy days educating Puyallup ahead I pray! yup customer’s spending state or county money are worse than anal procrastinators who have no room for the project of their dreams.. after they sobered up and realized they messed up while they were drunk 🥃.

I've had large things delivered to my house throughout the years. On the order form I signed each time, it specifically stated, in very bold letters, curbside delivery (Obviously for things not like appliances that normally would be delivered in house). Now, was anything I had delivered as cumbersome as this? No, but I have had very heave things delivered such as weight lifting equipment and all the times the driver was as cool and accommodating as he could be. I was fully aware it was a curbside delivery and was prepared to take it from the curb, but the drivers were always cool and backed it in as far as they could. Common courtesy and respect go a LONG way. This dude had an attitude from the jump.

I know exactly how you feel. I deliver for a kitchen company and we have a policy that the customer has to agree to that we don't take the goods into houses due to Covid-19, but will leave it in a carport or garage. If the customer doesn't accept these conditions on arrival or starts being difficult or abusive i just get in my truck and leave even if only half the order has been unloaded. I had one customer start being really nasty to me and she said that i had an attitude problem and she was going to ring and make a complaint, i just said to her "well if you think i'm rude, you wait till you call and deal with the manager, she's going to be a lot worse than me".

What most don't understand, that extra mile we go, *we are responsible for whatever happens* to the equipment, property, etc. That's why we are very cautious about it. And why we gladly help when it's possible.

Going back years ago, got a call from an old mate that I knew through the board of an Association. A company was meant to deliver a "Bali Hut" to a job in the foothills. 6 metre timber and 3 by 2.4 metre wide pallets. The pallets were not the issue, the long timber was! One transport company went there a couple of days before to do the delivery. Driver could get the pallets up the driveway, but not the timber. He was using a Manitou Telescopic forklift. Got the phone call, and we set it up for a couple of days time.
On the day, got to the yard late and got chewed out by the mate. Got the load on the truck and went to site. As I knew the road had an elbow with 12 metres of width, my truck would not make that turn! So, parked at the last side street and tractored the two pallets to site. The mate got his rigid truck next to the driveway in question. This drive was on the high side of the road, and nearly went straight up - very steep!
Forklift is on the rear of a tractor, so put the tractor in second range of 4, and selected 3rd in the main box. Put it in reverse, and turned around and was kneeling on the seat, watching the extremities of the load. AT one point, had the forks out to 3 metres in height to clear obstacles, but, got the job done! The mate was very appreciative, as my handiwork on the tractor saved him and his offsider about 3 hours of hard work! Even now, years on from that delivery, the mate still reckons that I am madder than a cut snake for completing that delivery in the manner that I did!!!

The driver is required to have a bill of lading in order to legally have temporary possession of the goods on board although it needn't be a detailed list of materials, only the weight. This the customer signs and both get a copy. The purpose of the B/L is to acknowledge receipt of a shipment. The shipper would normally provide their customer with an itemized bill of sale that the driver would give to the customer to verify that he got what he paid for but can do this on his own time, at his own pace and not make a driver wait for it. If there's a discrepancy, the customer can take it up with the shipper later. In this instance, the carrier should charge the shipper for a refused delivery (usually 1/2 hour) and return the goods at the same rate that they were going to deliver it for. The extra cost would have to be born by the shipper and not the carrier who in this instance is faultless. The shipper can recover from their customer if they think he's being unreasonable or trying to get something for nothing. The trucker can't because, as a third party, he has no contract with the customer.
