hi, your description of indigenous reference to giving these egregors any attention has a reasoning not explained because its truth is too far for our contextualization. These egregors only exist from the beliefs of real people, that's how powerful real souls are! This statement infers also that not all people are real? This reality of phenomenon is obvious in the solution of these seeming various indigenous tribes offering the same solution, based on thousands of years dealing with these egregors, but also infers the culture and others eliminated in history, knew this information at its inception, and or before it
Great news, I've been hoping you'd make a podcast... Just one suggestion... If you set out your podcast into seasons, You could easily transfer them into an Audiobook format and maybe make some money that way too. Keep up the good work... Peace.
Can you spell out the name of this “indigenous” Polish group you kept citing. I lived there and my first wife was from there and I have never heard them mentioned.
One of the most believable boot camp stories ever. We had one dude who found out he was a sleepwalker in Basic. Just walked up to the guard in the middle of the night with a dead stare. Guy turned around and just saw these dead eyes staring into his soul from a foot away.
I had a late friend who had been a soldier in the German army on the eastern front during WW2. He admitted to having seen many strange things but chalked it all up to fatigue. I suppose it was a coping mechanism. He related a few stories because he trusted me, and I will submit that to see what he saw and then consider that it could be real would have been terrifying.
I've known a few veterans of that campaign while I was stationed in Germany in the early 80s. One guy told me that sleep was a rare luxury for both sides, so hallucinations aren't ruled out.
I swore to keep them to myself, but my friend is long dead now. The one that both frightened and enraged me was one that involved someone, or something, searching through the personal effects of the fallen with fiendish delight. How do you react? Report what may be a hallucination to your command? Fire on it and garner attention from your superiors and all the local opposition? Terrifying and frustrating at the same time.
I did basic in germany and I definitely had some hallucinations. One was a black fox chasing its tail endlessly, which turned out to be a tree stump. The other was 2 men with weapons approaching while I was in the alarm post. They had a bright glow around them and were hovering . I called it in to the sergeant, he took a look and told me there was nothing. That was after three nights of sleeping no more than an hour a night.
When my brother was in Germany some decades ago, he and a friend of his were out drinking in a field around the Black Forest when they heard footsteps in the trees approaching their direction from a distance. He said it sounded as if it was walking on two legs and not four and that it must have been massive, judging by the heaviness of the footfalls. He said, whatever it was, it did stay out of view and never came out of the treeline, so he has no idea what it was but he remembered being very worried as it was approaching in their direction. I lived in Germany, Bavaria, myself once and the forests do have a very enchanted and preternatural feel about them.
I grew up in East Germany but we had some distant Relatives in the Black Forest (Like my Grandpas cousin or smth.) They have long since passed but I did spend a few summers in those forests when I was very little. There is definitely something about these forests that words can’t quite describe. They just have an Aura that words aren’t enough for. Maybe it’s the big trees maybe it was the scary folk stories my relatives grandkid told me to scare me.
For those who are interested: The Aufhocker is a broad describtion of creatures known in Germany and Poland. They have many Names, but what they all have in Common is that they suddenly appear next to you on your Way Home. Some look Human and strike up a Conversation. At some Point they either ask, or just jump on your Back so you give them a Piggyback Ride. During your walk Home the Creature gets heavier and heavier, but also your Mind gets darker, more depressed. Mostly they look like a Kobold, but they can shapeshift to look like anything they want. The Baukhauv never took a Life, but the Stüpp (which looks like a Werwolf) has killed many. Pippin the younger, Father of Karl the Great, said he had slayn one of these Creatures.
Holy crap. I just posted an experience in these comments of one I met. It wasn't evil though. It was a friend I made that escorted me home. I've got chills. This was over 30 years ago.
Ya that one was more funny then scary and especially when he was seen and just said hey than kept going! He was obviously just messing around with people!
Something I was told, by two different World War 2 veterans (one USA and the other German, who turned spy for the allies) have a warning for most people. "In story books we are told of great things, both good and evil. We love listening to them, and then ask if they are real. most of the time we are told quickly to not worry about it, and that it's just a story. But then one day, you see something out of a story book, and it breaks you. It leaves a scare on your mind, that can't be healed, because everything you know then is a lie. The stories were are told, are real, and you need to believe them, so that you can run when you see them." I met these two vets within three months of each other at my job, and I take time to listen to them, as I do play stories when I'm able to during my working hours.
If they shared any stories with you, please submit them. Would love to hear them on the podcast. Your quote from the Vets should be used as an intro. It sums these stories up perfectly
I've seen something quite similar to what is depicted in "The Night Stag" portion of the video. I was serving a mission for the LDS church (I no longer affiliate with that faith) and was assigned to Picture Rocks, AZ for 4.5 months. We saw and experienced many strange things there, and was warned by many other missionaries about the experiences they had in the area. One night, we were driving back to our house/single-wide we stayed at. It was later than we were supposed to be out at with the strict rules and daily schedule. My companion decided to take a detour on the way back that takes us down a dirt road between cotton fields to see if there were any homes down that way we could visit later in the week. We hit a dead-end in the road, and my companion turned around. As he was accelerating, I could see this fast moving thing in the moonlight running perpendicular to us in the cotton field. It jumped out in front of the car causing my companion to slam on the brakes. In the headlights, we saw this werewolf looking thing standing on its hind legs that was at least 8 feet tall. It continued running across the road and into the adjacent field, and I started yelling at my companion to don't stop and keep going. Non of us assigned to that mission really believed in the paranormal until we started having problems with it all over the place. It was bad, especially those who served near or in Indian reservations.
This is not because of absence of events, as you see... We're not talking about regional believes, ghosts and paranormal are universal. Surprises me too knowing there are SW in Europe. We live in a world that's much more magic then we believe.
@@dxux4679still waiting for us to figure out how to do Skyrim magic; I'd be less afraid of these beings knowing that I could summon a fireball into my hands while maniacally laughing at it.

His name for us was "Henderson" and he gave such a weird vibe that we were so concerned about him and his weird ass behavior at Ft. Sill, OK that we took his firing pin from his rifle one night. The DS's were so fixated on getting us through basic at the time that when his rifle failed to function they just had the shooter next to him swap rifles for his BRM training that would let him graduate. When we did U.S. Weapons course he managed to slam the M203 closed on his thumb, and both the M240 and M249 jammed on him at the second shot. Odd. Probably just bad luck, but odd.
I was the white kid living on the Navajo reservation in the 70s. My best Navajo buddies family was of clan full of bizarre supernatural events. Skinwalker is no joke. I witnessed some really strange things out there. It's a very different situation there.
I was watching on you tube a channel about skinwalkers. All of sudden I found myself on the ground in front of my chair on my front poarch. I had passed out! No I do do weed or was not drinking or anything. It was something or a sound on the podcast I was watching. Now afraid to watch or research skinwalkers any more
@@GodisPerfect668scary!! Did the podcast feature some real audio from real footage? Personally I purposely avoid videos that contain real audio, like some videos are titled "bigfoot screams caught on camera" and even though I don't think bigfoot is evil and I don't live in the US I will not play this video lol. I also don't watch videos with real ghost hunting using ouija board. I tried once, from a famous channel, and it started with a disclaimer that playing the audio in your house might lead to activity there after as reported by some viewers in previous stuff so I was like "nope" and stopped the video 😂
Had an uncle who was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era. He was told he couldn't go anywhere without a partner (battle buddy) especially at night. He spoke up and asked because of the Soviets right sir. His CO said if you say so. My family has ancestry from Germany. One of the things handed down is a dagger with a silver handle decorated with a carving of a wolf
Wow, thank you for sharing !! After my kids had experiences when they were 10 and 8, I started researching and there were different things happening around our house. With the kids and certain friends that came over. It was finally my turn to be "introduced"...they was 8 years ago. We did not ever feel threatened, I was told they e been around longer than when they introduced themselves, and was also told that they seem to be protecting us. They actually were ..it wasn't a seem to be. DM and Sas both, along with their families. When my son first told me of what he had seen, there was no going outside alone. I was usually out there anyway, in the yard doing something, but now a definite, bc I didn't know what to expect. They just watched...at night, no one went out at night anymore...if someone did, I went with them. I explained to them and those. Certain friends, that daytime is our time outside, nighttime is theirs...lots of experiences with them. But always peaceful and protective. During my research, and my chats with others, some told me of their version of Sas...in Vietnam, rock apes.
Looking back in my years in high school reading up history books from Germany, Italy, Japan, Africa and a few other places, reading this sounds all the more eerie and bloody chilling to the bone ...... There are some things we just can't explain man it's a scary world out there .......

But also, hearing how our govt was experimenting on our soldiers, trying to create super soldiers....and dropping some over in Germany and other places, I believe it. As I have gotten older, I've seen how some behave while they r supposed to be making this a safe country. They haven't. And it was a former CIA agent that shared about mixing soldiers with whatever animals they did, to create dogmen and whatever else..those parents would never know what happened to their kids...what they did, hoping to help the country. And I guess they didn't count on the ones they let lose in our country to breed. Their experiments sound like they got out of hand. But I do wonder....
@feelinfroggy8089 I've seen and dealt some rather unexplained things myself .... I used my phones flashlight to see what it was but saw nothing ... then I heard wings flap .... whatever it was sounded big .... then I heard the most god awful woman/creature like scream I've ever heard in my life .... I ran faster than I ever did that night racing home and somehow by the grace of God I didn't get caught .... but when i made it home into the light this thing was about 6 to 7 ft tall .... bright orange ish glowing eyes that seemed to leave a trail as the swayed side to side.... if you ever played a gane called Prince of persis warrior within the monster called the dahaka has eyes that do something similar .... Can you post a picture of the dagger? Sounds beautiful!! I have German blood, also. I have maternal cousins here in Minnesota named Dempewolf, which means ""killer of wolves ". 😢 We also have the "International Wolf Center" in Ely, Minnesota which is quite aways north of me. DM & BF have been seen in northern MN, also. According to the Internet, DM have been spotted at Fort Snelling Cemetery which is near the Mlps. St.Paul International Airport. About 45 minutes north of me. I'm pretty sure that BF is in southern MN,not too far from my hometown. I have a cousin down there who sent me a recording of tree knocks. I find DM more scary & interesting than BF. LOL
These creatures feed on our fear rather than our bodies. It’s why basically every story says they just stared or chased yet never reached them when they easily could have.
creatures that feed upon fear or any negative emotion are called archons and have been talked about since the start of time. The gnostics talk about them still.
My grandpa was the weird guy at bootcamp, but in his own words. he was bored as fuck, had gotten drafted, and loved pranks. So boot camp was perfect for him to be all three.
when my grandpa was in the army he drove tanks and one time they had a guy ski behind the tank attached to it 😂 and when he first joined they had air mattresses and his had a hole in it and the guy next to him laughed at him so he poked a hole in his and they became friends (later) lol
I can relate. I loved messing with people. Even the DI laughed at some of them. Especially on fire watch if I caught you sleeping. Not a good thing for the one sleeping. Even TOP got a kick out of that one. He thought it was great for a boot to be doing that to other boots.
Polish native here. We have extensive folklore regarding werewolves and things shape shifting from and into a human, but skinwalkers are specifically a Native American concept. We don’t have an exact equivalent and there’s no literal translation.
@@thoorwulfn9z383 No, not realy. One is an evil witch that can take form of many different animals and people, while Werwolfs are people cursed to become animals. Not to mention that the modern Werwolf is young and only realy appeared after begin of the witch trials. The idea that both are "generally" the same is something that is only believed because people don't understand A: the legends of the Navajo and B: the history of the werwolf myth.
There is a dog man encounter episode on TH-cam about a soldier who was stationed somewhere in the South back in the 80s encountering two wolf like creatures that walk on two legs and they attacked him at night while he was on route to deliver food to his fellow soldiers. I wish wartime stories would do an episode about military members encounters with the cryptid dogman.
I also have a strange history related to me when i serve the military duties in my Army(Spain),it was 1992,in my company was a strange young boy ,he was very tall and reserved,he used to see and ear everybody, but seldom speak his own business, one day he and I were instructed by our sargeant to install a radio antenna during a maneuvers in dense forest area in the León province,he took the antenna and when we reach a very large tree with no branches or means of scale it,he says: "this tree is perfect, give me the antenna" I replied: you are kidding me,is imposible without a ladder or ropes.." He smiled at me in a strange way, took the antenna and CLIMB the tree..i gave no words to explain or describe it..he CLIMB the tree without apparent effort and in an eye blink..the tree was HIGH,too high to climb even with equipment, less the way he did,the descend was also creepy, like a more than normal "float" manner..he smiled at me,look around us as he seek for other persons, smiled me again in a way a find disturbing, and we return camp..never spoke him again.
Hello, it is a misconception the Brothers Grimm authored the stories in their collections. They compiled pre-existing folklore, editorialised maybe but certainly not originated.
True!! They did the illustrations. They are related to my maternal cousins in Iowa. 😊 Their late father is my uncle by marriage. A few months before he passed he told me a bit of his family history. His parents Frederick & Rose came to Ellis Island from Switzerland. I wish I had asked him what brought them to Iowa. The Grimms are wonderful people and some of my FAVORITE relatives!! 😊 I'm in Minnesota and don't see them as much as I would like.
I'm from Germany and never heard of the Aufhocker, so I did a little research. The Aufhocker is something completely different from what is described here. It's a goblin spirit that jumps on travelers at night to make them heavier with every step they take.
A goblin is one form it takes. As described here, the creature also takes on the form of women, and animals. Sometimes the creature will attack the throat of its victim. What was said here matches the legend exactly
It could also be some regional variation of the folklore. That happens a lot with mythology over time plus other stories get swapped & shared. Vampire lore is a good example of that. There's such a variety of different types & rules for them depending on the region. But the version of the Aufhocker I'd heard about as an American is the version you mentioned; the imp that leaps on travelers' backs & rides them to exhaustion & they'd sometimes shapeshift to objects that add extra weight like the English Hedley Kow.
This is interesting. It makes me think of the Pooka of the british isles, though I am speaking of the Irish interpretation. Though there exists various forms.
I've seen what is called a Dogman.....utterly terrifying that has left me a hypervigilance whenever I go out in any wooded area. I occasionally see the eyes in my dreams. I'm always armed now and if I ever see it again I have got some lead I'd like to force feed it.
Can comfirm, I went through bootcamp in 2012, and yes, we had at least one of those guys. Had another dude that told everyone he was a Satanist, and another who proudly told us all that he had an SS trench coat in his closet back home that was his grandpa's. And that it wasn't a war trophy. One of my buddies had some kind of medical emergency maybe halfway through and got med-evaced. I thought it was just a panic attack, but he'd had some kind of reaction or something, and had to be taken out on a stretcher. Never heard hide nor hair from him after. As for dreams in bootcamp, I still remember my first night. Technically it was the second night, but they don't let you sleep the first one. I dreamt I was working on a cruise ship, which was weird because I had never and still haven't ever been aboard a cruise liner. And then I remember the overhead florescent lights coming on (I was top rack, directly undreneath a light panel which was probably three or four feet above me). I don't know what it was about bootcamp, but I *NEVER* over-slept or had the inclination to. Which is weird, because all throughout school, I had never been what you might consider a "morning" person, and I haven't been since boot camp. Maybe it was fear of the instructors and the core knowledge that they'd make my life miserable if I wasn't on the toe line five seconds after lights on, but I've never been able to recreate it since then. Hell, I've even used the General Quarters alarmto wake me up, which worked for maybe a week before I learned to ignore it. Anyways, I've been out for nearly 10 years now (did my four and got out in '16), and lately, I've been wanting to get active, get back out into the woods, hit the trails with my wife and do some hiking/camping. We live out in California by some truly gorgeous trails, but hearing stories like these kinda makes me just want to stay in the city where the weirdest/scariest thing I might see is some crackhead taking a crap on the sidewalk. To quote Family Guy, "damn, nature! You scary!"
I've been going out in nature since I was 8 years old on 3 continents including western Canada and the northwestern US. I've seen a few strange things and knew strange things were happening in a couple of places. It's about 50/50 where I saw them between towns/cities/villages and out in the wild. The most nasty, repugnant acts I've seen have been done by people. None of us last forever, are you going to be sat on your porch as an old dude who can't get out in nature still wishing you had done it?
My dad took us backpacking and camping all the time out here in New mexico. I've seen an angry bear, been followed by mountain lions, come across multiple rattlesnakes and packs of coyotes. Even a couple unexplainable creature/craft sightings. Despite all that, i feel safer out in the forests then I do in the cities. People are more dangerous and evil then anything living out in nature. Sure a bear can kill you, and it'll be horrific. But I'd rather get eaten by a bear then abducted by a serial killer like the toy box killer.
As a Diné(Navajo) there are many types of Shape-shifters, these stories are interesting and useful for lesson of human condition, as technology gets better, we will be seeing more and hearing more. Greeting from the Navajo Nation. P.s all cultures have many taboos, the skinwalkers are ours.
In Welsh myth and legend we've got the story of the birth of Taleisin. This involves shape-shifting too. Into a hare, a fish, a bird and then finally a grain of corn. We've also the tales of the Fae. Sending you best regards from N Wales 🏴
in malaysia and indonesia, we have were-tigers: witch-doctors who can transform into tigers via rituals, they can be good, acting as protectors, or they can be bad... i heard a friend who related that his mother told him that during second world war, when our country was under japan's military rule, his grandma could travel vast distances despite being an old lady without a motor vehicle. one day, deep in the night, she suddenly arrived at one of her daughter's house because she was delivering a child, and her younger siblings spied a tiger pacing beneath the floorboards of that stilt-raised house.
We have children everywhere and a habit to scare them from getting themselves into dangerous situations or commit unwanted behaviour. With reality and by made up monsters.
I love this topic. I’m fascinated by these. While in Germany in 1992, a buddy and I were backpacking from Baumholder to Saarbrucken through towns and sleeping in the woods of fields. One night, something kept surrounding the tent and screaming on a blood curdling scream. We were so scared that we didn’t move a muscle. I believe we didn’t even talk about it the next morning. That’s the most terrified I’ve ever been.
Doesnt it feel great that we are not allowed to own weapons for protection? I would have felt sooo safe with a pocket knive at best in your situation .... in fact i feel sooo safe right now. And the gun laws are going to get even worse this year.
Funny story, I heard similar sounds camping here and found out later in life that it was foxes making these sounds except one time where it was a person. Terrifying stuff, almost shit my pants because of it. One was attracted to our trash and stole my wet swimming trousers i hung on one of the tent lines😂
I was hanging out overnight at the edge of a wild area with some friends and at some point noticed a man-sized shrub ahead of where I sat that hadn't been there a few minutes before. Some dude in a Ghillie suit was watching us. He left in less than an hour. We would've offered him beer and sandwiches if he hadn't been so rude.
My late grandfather was stationed in East Germany with the Allied Occupation Army after WWII. But AFAIK he was just working in a PX during that time, so I don't think he saw any shapeshifters in the wilderness. He saw a great deal of combat during the war, but he almost never talked about it. Once I was watching TV with him and there was a newsreel clip of soldiers slogging through deep mud and he said, "That's what it was like in France." That was the only time he said anything about his war experience to me.
In the summer of 85 at MCRD San Diego I was someone that would occasionally stay up an hour after lights out, when we were allowed to get up to use the head and write letters. Made the guys on fire watch nervous but we were never told we couldn't do it. It helped me with the cultural shock of bootcamp somehow, I was already married and had a kid born while I was in bootcamp. Had a strange experience while in Comm school at 29 Palms. I had a buddy from West Covina, and we were driving to his parents' house one Friday night while we were off for the weekend. While we were driving across this desert road on the way there this translucent ball of faint light about the size of a cantaloupe seemed to move across the windshield from the driver's side to mine on the passenger's side. Looked like it was about 6 inches off the hood and about that far in front of the windshield. I thought I was seeing things and kind of side glanced at by buddy and notice he looked a little nervous but neither of us said anything. I even moved my head as if cracking my neck and it didn't move. After a few minutes it slowly lifted up and away. I waited a few minutes and said that was weird, and he blurts out "you saw that too"! We both saw it in the same area, it wasn't a reflection from anything. Never really felt scared just kind of creeped out wondering what it was.
Ball lightening I'm guessing. Very rare phenomena. Something very similar happened to myself and a coworker at a scale house at a quarry we worked at one night. Earlier in the night it had stormed, with thunder and lightening just north of us, but it rained heavily at the quarry. But at the end of the storm, a florescent glowing greenish blue "string" came in the window, humming like how powerlines do after a rainstorm, and it slowly moving from his window at the west side of the scale house, thru to my side, and then out the window on the east side. It wiggled across almost at eye level, like how a snake moves. It was only there for less then 10 seconds. I thought about reaching out and touching it but somehow my buddy sensed I was going to do it, and yelled, DON'T DO IT!! Him yelling at me scared the shit outta me, and before I had a chance to reconsider it, it was gone. Never saw anything like it before or since!! Very strange and kind of creepy. But neither of us were frightened by it. We talked about it for the rest of the shift, but decided we weren't going to say anything to anyone else b/c we figured they'd think we were smoking something crazy or worse!! lol I always remember that when I hear weird stories like yours Tommy. Strange, but true!!
I used to be stationed at 29. I’ve heard plenty about the Comm School barracks, some of which are haunted due to suicides and the like. Comm students are whole different breed. No idea why, but they’ve definitely put thru some crazies.
You mentioned the Grimm brothers. I took my mother back to Germany one last time before she passed. We went on a bus tour from Bremen, and the main attraction was Hanau. It really was quite beautiful.
The German soldiers bewildered accent you used in the beginning of the story about the slashed equipment being beyond repair, had me dead. Certainly it would convert to a thorough WTF moment for a like soldier from the US Military.

@truthseeker2321 heard about them, but not this 'Aufhoker'. And I thought werewolves were more of a myth and legend, not a crpytid thing like skinwalker.
Super stoked you’ve teamed up with John! You two are, hands down, my two favorite story narrators. Congrats!! Also, this episode gave me goosebumps because I used to live in Germany and I had heard about something similar.
The attention to detail for the Night Stag story is excellent. My dad was in the British army and we were based as a family in Detmold in the 1980s. You've even got the helicopters spot on: the Gazelle and Lynx. One minor correction, Connery was in the third Indianna Jones in 1989!! I love this show though, the best crypto one on youtube!
Ok. Here's what happened when I was 16. I was an army brat. My father was stationed at Darmstadt. I spent my weekends hiking into the forest. My best friend and I both had back packed far into the hills of the black forest trying to reach a spire that was visible from far away. There was snow on the ground and we saw large dog tracks about us, so I decided we would climb up on some large boulders to have lunch. You can see very far into the woods because there isn't any undergrowth because the dark Forest doesn't allow that with all the shaded areas all you see is tree trunks and fir trees. As we both said they're eating our sandwiches and talking about what kind of building that spiral was on and maybe a castle or otherwise an old man came from around the back of the rocks. You spoke to us in German and I asked him if he spoke English which he did and he started to tell us the kings were buried in a tomb where this spire was. We sat there looking at the view quietly for a minute then turned around to see that he had disappeared. It was unnerving when we realized there was only our tracks and the large canine tracks. We hiked for a while then decided we could never make it to our goals for decided to turn and go home. We had hiked far into strange woods we didn't know and darkness was falling fast upon us. Then we noticed a large Shepard type dog following us from about 50 ft. We heard cars and night fell. My buddy chickened out and went to the road to get a ride, but I was too proud to give up. The wolf stayed between 30 to 35 feet behind me until I finally got to the edge of the forest at cambria frisch hill. There i turned as I stepped into the clearing by base to see where the wolf was.. he had stopped right at the edge and stayed there. I will never forget that experience. I'm sure it was the old man.
@@WhyyesIamallama yes. I was just telling someone I should document my experiences. I had ball lightning about the size of a VW bug three feet over my head. Scared the hell outta me. Lol. I was standing on a hillside watching two small tornadoes rip through the valley below me, I live in Arkansas tornado alley... And all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and it felt like the air was being sucked out of my lungs. I looked above me just in time to see this incredible ball of plasma flash two or three times about 3 feet above me. I ran inside and prayed it scared me so bad.
@@VaxRabbitball lightning... that was a very, very rare occurrence you survived, because you could have died. Very nearly did judging by the symptoms of close proximity electrical charge. Interesting. Is there more about this that you remember like any other interactions? Any feelings- like a growing sense of alarm, dread or something else?
this channel is trully impressive. its absolutely perfect story style. everything is just matched perfectly together. the music, the artwork, the voice, the narrating. also, hearing stories of soldiers, is the best. these are people who are trained to be very logic and realistic but encounter stuff that they can't explain, and somehow thats very exciting to hear.

Wartime is surely and steadily encroaching 1 million subscribers. And you’re deserving of it. A truly one of a kind channel and is very good at it too.
One of the things that always makes me doubt the “It was just a dream answer,” Is the simple fact that we've all had nightmares that felt real but we kind of know when we're awake. Very early this morning for instance, I took my dog out to go to the bathroom and she took off chasing some stray mutt that had wandered onto our property In spite of it feeling somewhat dreamlike I knew for a fact I was awake. (My dog came safely back after chasing the mutt to the edge of our property by the way) Though I will say based on my one strange encounter, when you see something and you’re not quite sure what it is it can feel dreamlike. This happened when I was a kid, we were up at Mount Shasta staying in this house out in the woods. The house had a wrap around porch with windows and sliding glass doors all around. I was already somewhat on edge because of mountain lions and bears. So one night when me and my brother were sitting on the couch watching TV I glanced over at the dark sliding glass door and see what I can only describe as a Dog-like mouth full of glowing teeth and two glowing eyes staring at me, It almost looked like those deep sea photos of angler fish. Anyway just as I take a sharp in breath of fear it turns away and then boom the power goes out. And if that wasn’t creepy enough as everyone’s running around trying to get the power back on (We were off great with solar panels For context) I see down in the valley the lit up silhouette of a flying saucer or something, Even at the time I thought I was imagining it, Anyway What it looked like was a ring of lights around it and then one glowing light right at the top that looked like the sort of transparent cab that you see in movies, It was really weird. I probably would have just passed it off as me imagining things except for the fact that pretty much everyone else saw the UFO down in the valley.
Nicely done, and congratulations on your PodCast light-off! I was an Air Force brat; I had friends whose parents were stationed in Germany in the '70s, and they had stories that were strange as well. My 'brat' time was spent in Massachussetts, Guam, the Phillipines, and central California. I saw strange things as a kid, and also later in my own military career. Thanks for doing the research to bring some good stories to life. Proctor Valley Monster ftw!!!
Um, excuse me: Raiders of the Lost Ark did not have Sean Connery, that would have been The Last Crusade from 1989. You know, from the Indiana Jones TRILOGY. Because only three movies exist and you cannot change my mind.
It's been a while since I actually watched Raiders, and immediately knew that was wrong. This is probably just a great example of the mind being fallible.
@@TheMaritimeHorror I'll take both the sequels AND let them make 3 more trash-tier movies to desecrate the franchise, as long as they are willing to delete all Star Wars since Disney acquired it, and say "Sorry guys, we screwed up- ignore all of this, maybe we'll make a show or something based in a different era some day."
I've been watching Wartime Stories since they spun off of Bedtime Stories. After Mr. Ballen acquired Bedtime Stories I assumed that Wartime Stories would be part of that. I wonder what took so long.
If he is in the Bundeswehr, he is in the West German army. The army of the GDR was the NVA or Nationale Volksarmee. Given that his name is Adolph, this probably happened many years ago. I would venture that Adolph was born in the time of the third Reich, because this is not a contemporary German name. It's just not a name, Germans give their kids and since you have to get a name approved. Adolph is considered a historic name and not illegal, parents are discouraged from doing so. I believe it is this channel that shares a story of American soldiers stationed in Germany who had similar experiences.
Interesting side note. I'm a bit of a language/word fan. Nothing to distract from your valid comment but here's a Google quick response: " "The name Adolf has seen a slight resurgence in popularity in recent years, with 46 children named Adolf since 2013, compared to 13 between 2006 and 2013. However, the name's popularity has declined significantly since World War II due to its negative associations with Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. After Hitler took power in 1933, the name briefly became more popular, but by 1942 it had become very unpopular, and by 1951 it was rarely used. Some people born before the war who were named Adolf chose to avoid the association, such as Adolf Dassler, the founder of Adidas, who went by the nickname "Adi". In modern Germany, many people with the name Adolf choose to use shortened versions, such as Adi or Dolf. While it's illegal to name a child "Adolf Hitler" in Germany, there's no official law against using the first name only."
Some keep to the tradition. Adolph indeed mostly avoided as first name. But as most Hitlers have changed their name, yet I met a family that kept their ancestors last name. And rightfully so. Tje name is more than that one person.
Move out, BY MYSELF, to an extremely-remote farm somewhere in SE Montana; one other cattle ranch three miles away. Steep dark canyons on both sides, loaded with wildlife incl bears and mountain lions. Three coyote packs and possible wolf sightings. I know! I'll watch another Wartime Stories!

I know this channel is for spooky stories, but that "aye aye sir" had me rolling. I can imagine some recruit screaming it in his sleep. Went to Parris Island in 05. I remember being so exhausted I wouldn't make it through singing the Hymn after lights. Keep up the good work, brother!
i remember, during our cbrn training, middle of the night, we had someone scream 'gas, gas, gas" in their sleep. some ppl slept light and put gasmasks on until they figured out what had happened. people were pissed.
@jamiewhichelo9983 it's amazing how well the training works. You wonder if, in the heat of the moment, you'll react appropriately. Then you something happens and it all kicks in.
19:50 That slow reveal had me rewinding several times, coz I suddenly spotted it and only saw it when it was fully revealed, just as intended I assume lol. That was perfection. Props to the illustrator and editor and whoever did the sound timing....coz it all timed together perfectly.
When i realized you worked with bedtime stories during the Christmas episode. I had a strange feeling you must have some type of connection with Mr.ballen. I'm so happy to find out you all are teaming up and I hope it helps all of you in creating some amazing story videos.
My husband has a dear friend of several decades who is Native American. While tipsy, he recently confided in my husband that SWs are aliens. So when I got to the part in this story where the people of the white forest in Germany said they are from the stars, I lost my $hit! Lol. 😮
I have heard a few similar stories from soldiers who served at the same time as my father in Vietnam and were willing to even discuss such events. I’m not so sure I’d put everything down to fatigue and shell shock but that’s just me. Stories that make my blood run cold as I hear them usually signal a grain of truth to me 🤔
14:52 Worth noting that the Kitsune isn't inherently malevolent but, like humans, can be both good and evil in nature or somewhere inbetween. This thing, however, appears completely evil
my uncle was based in west Germany with the British army. no mention of shapeshifters but plenty of odd noises around his barracks that was used by the German army in ww2 and on the training grounds.

"Waking up suddenly and screaming, 'Aye-aye, sir!'" This made me laugh, because yep! It happened to me, too. We even had someone call out cadence, and another night, someone shouted, "PORT WATCH SECTION, FOR-WARD!" And some joker on the other side of the bay calls out, "Starboard watch section, stand fast!"

hi, your description of indigenous reference to giving these egregors any attention has a reasoning not explained because its truth is too far for our contextualization.

Would love to hear some of his descriptions
I've known a few veterans of that campaign while I was stationed in Germany in the early 80s. One guy told me that sleep was a rare luxury for both sides, so hallucinations aren't ruled out.
You should share those stories!
It made me smile when you said "this is the smoke pit" - I have worked for the military for 15 years and the smoke pit is a legendary place.
❤
For those who are interested:
The Aufhocker is a broad describtion of creatures known in Germany and Poland.

One of the most boot stories i've ever heard
@@edwink.1610 I'll keep my ears open!
Anybody else misread “LDS” as “LSD” 😂😂😂

His name for us was "Henderson" and he gave such a weird vibe that we were so concerned about him and his weird ass behavior at Ft. Sill, OK that we took his firing pin from his rifle one night. The DS's were so fixated on getting us through basic at the time that when his rifle failed to function they just had the shooter next to him swap rifles for his BRM training that would let him graduate.
Let's not spoil these entertaining but fake stories now!
I'm still stunned by the story of the guy that was under you bunk dude.
That's just wild.
he was just in a silly goofy mood
I approve of this man’s storytelling ability and that voice. The voice makes a huge difference

It seems like they are all so similar.
Very interesting.
in malaysia and indonesia, we have were-tigers: witch-doctors who can transform into tigers via rituals, they can be good, acting as protectors, or they can be bad... i heard a friend who related that his mother told him that during second world war, when our country was under japan's military rule, his grandma could travel vast distances despite being an old lady without a motor vehicle. one day, deep in the night, she suddenly arrived at one of her daughter's house because she was delivering a child, and her younger siblings spied a tiger pacing beneath the floorboards of that stilt-raised house.
We have children everywhere and a habit to scare them from getting themselves into dangerous situations or commit unwanted behaviour. With reality and by made up monsters.
This is nit surprising. From a Christian POV shapeshifting is demonic in nature.
Oh sorry for the confusion but that’s not a skin walker but just an average german politician
Are you talking about the first story?
Lol
Or typical german woman...
Sounds legit
It's good to know, no matter where you go, people hate their politicians

Crazy that the book skinwalkers at the pentagon talk about this kind of thing the world is so much more stranger than we can imagine
I meant West Germany, sorry about that, I was sleepy.
@@LaurelleStarI was waiting for that.
Someone visiting you right after they died is what it was, someone who held you in a special place in their heart came to say goodbye
We talked about it for the rest of the shift, but decided we weren't going to say anything to anyone else b/c we figured they'd think we were smoking something crazy or worse!! lol
I always remember that when I hear weird stories like yours Tommy.
Strange, but true!!
I used to be stationed at 29. I’ve heard plenty about the Comm School barracks, some of which are haunted due to suicides and the like. Comm students are whole different breed. No idea why, but they’ve definitely put thru some crazies.

Mr Ballen told me to check this guy out, this Wartime Stories so i'm new here!!!! hello from the UK!!!
That's so creepy. Has anything like that happened since?
(My dog came safely back after chasing the mutt to the edge of our property by the way)
Though I will say based on my one strange encounter, when you see something and you’re not quite sure what it is it can feel dreamlike.
Luke, so glad you're partnering with MrBallen, wanted to say congratulations and all the best!

You have to get names approved?
Interesting side note. I'm a bit of a language/word fan. Nothing to distract from your valid comment but here's a Google quick response: "
"The name Adolf has seen a slight resurgence in popularity in recent years, with 46 children named Adolf since 2013, compared to 13 between 2006 and 2013.
@@TheKnellBelleYeah, its great.
Some keep to the tradition. Adolph indeed mostly avoided as first name. But as most Hitlers have changed their name, yet I met a family that kept their ancestors last name. And rightfully so. Tje name is more than that one person.
