In this video, I tackle another dead PS5, this one a CFI-1015A with no signs of life at all. A special thanks to @Steve_be for helping me repair my NOR flash. Check out his channel / @steve_be
I have to say, you simply blow me away with how well you diagnose and fix these systems. If you don't mind me asking how did you get into working on these and do you have a background in engineering, if so what is your field? I was thinking about going back to school for electrical engineering, but haven't decided on a school yet.
I've watched a lot of your PS5 repairs, very informative stuff. I just wish that you would show how you handle the liquid metal and the dry spots that occur sometimes. Do you use the same liquid metal or replace. Please show if possible.
I normally reuse the liquid metal that is there. If you dampen a cotton swab with alcohol, you can move the liquid metal around. You can actually push it to the side to clean the APU or heat sink. After cleaning, I again use a cotton swab with alcohol to push the liquid metal back on the area you want and then use a dry cotton swab to spread the liquid metal across the surface. Rub in circles and it will coat the APU or heat sink.
I had exact same issue the other day with customers PS5, replaced same component, believe is a some kind of BIOS. Took the part from a donor board, worked without any additional software/flash modification.
I might have this same problem too. Power button doesn’t work, etc. Sadly, I don’t have the setup for this kind of work/I work in software development and don’t have time :(
I like your experienced-based approach. So the normal bench power reading for a healthy PS5 is 12v, 0.3amps then going back to zero amps? Is that sequence about right?
Unrelated but needing help if you can offer. Have a EDM-020, believe the SSD controller is bad. Do you have a working board that you could get a reading from for me? It’s the 3 “caps?” side by side located near the RT5127 opposite side of the SSD Controller. I get a reading on all 3 of 30-40 Ohms. Seems low but don’t have a working one to get readings from
@@ToltecMerc If I inject voltage there the SSD Controller gets hot. Not sure if this means my SSD controller is going faulty. The board I have I feel is either RAM or SSD controller. I get 300mA boot sequence and then it drops to 8-9mA and holds there. Voltages are present everywhere. Get a beep on, no power no light but I can repeatedly get the beep back to back. I don’t get RAM power on 1.5v and the Southbridge doesn’t appear shorted as i get the 1.1v on power on.
Yes. I immediately connected it to the internet and it downloaded and installed the latest update. I also installed Minecraft from disc with no issues.
I don't know if you'll see my comment but let's give it a shot as i need help. My ps5 digital edition was working well without any single problem for a year i turned it off proberly yesterday but suddenly it doesn't turn on for no reason or make tgat peep sound, it seems like it's dead. Iam not in yoyr country but havd found your channel and learned a lot. So my question is how to make sure if i go to a repair center they won't take any of the components or that they'll specifry the issue proberly and don't scam me? Thank you
It could be a dead power supply. It could also be a shorted ceramic capacitor on the PCB or a failed South Bridge. There are too many options to guess. It will need to me disassembled and tested by someone you trust.
Thank you for sharing and very interesting. What firmware did you use. I converted a board to digital as disk drive was permanently damaged. How does this differ from converting to digital?
You are welcome! I used a donor firmware from the Facebook group Game Console Repair Legion that was for an EDM-010 with disc and I was able to read the contents of the original NOR. The process would be similar to the disc/digital conversion but there is something tricky about the MAC address that I don't quite understand yet.
What tools are you using for removing the bios chip? I have been trying ten times all together to remove it, i'm heating it with the warm pistol, and try to take it off the motherboard and tried also with leed free solder wire 100G, , but can never make too happend... Are little bit afraid that motherboard are getting killed by it because i have tried so many times.
It is not known if it causes a problem or not much like the MAC address. If it comes from a dead console it probably is not a problem. If the MAC is copied and both console are online at the same time, might that cause a problem. I don’t know but I like to be safe.
Do you mean this PS5 because of the repair? Yes, I think the repair will last. Overall, PS5 do not seem to be very reliable but I only see broken ones which probably skews my view.
Is there any possible way I could send you mine for repair, same thing no beep no power. No repair place near me does board repairs and I don’t have the tools to try
Hey just worked on ps5 no power today (beep w every push of button but no lights) swapped hdmi encoder and powered right up but no image on screen. Swapped encoder again thinking it was bad and same. Filters are all good and port is oem and has no loose pins. Any suggestions?
Shame on PlayStation doing bad business for ps5 everywhere I keep see many ps5 have issue major problem in mainboard n blah blah blah..l know it's suck see it broke but it's good see you fix it back alive and back in action.. lol
Thanks for another good one. That bios chip didn't want to leave...
Thanks! Lead-free solder and I had my hot air around 350C. I had raise to 390C to get it to let go.
Thank you for sharing this information

If you take from a dead donor that should be fine.
I might have this same problem too. Power button doesn’t work, etc. Sadly, I don’t have the setup for this kind of work/I work in software development and don’t have time :(

I checked my good EDM-020 and I measured 70 ohms.

@@4TMGames that boot sequence sounds normal.
Great work, as always! Just one doubt I have (well, two...): Does it let you update firmware? Does the disk drive still work?
Yes. I immediately connected it to the internet and it downloaded and installed the latest update. I also installed Minecraft from disc with no issues.

Please show us how to swap the serial and Mac plz 🥺
That part was done by Steve Be and I don't know all that he did.

@@ToltecMerc Thank you I know from here you mentioned SB is the man. I know this is tricky.
19:35 Where can I get this programmer ? Put it on the description please
It is available from many vendors. I got mine from eBay I think. Watch out for fakes.

The master at work again! You got the TL866II Plus to recognize this chip? I tried one and had no luck, using any special software or adaptor?
In the bottom left corner of Xgpro, uncheck the box labeled "Check ID" and it will work just fine.
What tools are you using for removing the bios chip?

Use flux and add leaded solder to all the legs. It will make removal easier.
@@ToltecMercTried that, but everytime i'm trying it pushes away from their legs.
Are you located in Texas? sounds like outside my house those Cicadas aka chinchadas making all that noise lol.
Mississippi actually.
my sister has the same issue with her ps5. I'm just commenting for the algorithm. Thanks for sharing your approach.
Glad it helped
ur awesome... you know of any good ventilation mods to help this sucker breathe better?
You doing great
Can we take a copy of your notice
I wonder how many of these have been scraped. Because of a few bad nibbles
Probably quite a few and even more will be scrapped because of the on-board SSD.
Steve good call 👍
Do the serial number thing affect the console after... Because I have flash many ps5 bios without writing the original serial number

Do you think that the ps5 is reliable and can last, Or is it prone to failure?

what do you charge for something like that my ps5 does not turn on or make noise no beep
Should I get my ps5 repaired or buy a new one it’s completely dead like this one it was working just fine the day before
You might look into Sony's replacement. I think for $200 they will swap with you. I can't confirm that though.
cool music is it you
Thanks! The music is just some free music from TH-cam.

Take diode readings of every pin. You should read something on every pin except 14. Red probe on ground.
@ToltecMerc if I don't get readings on pins aside from 14 does that mean the port is bad? Or something else in circuit?
@@chad1983ification if you are checking at the back of the port I would say there is a circuit problem.
comment for the algo!

Thank You! They do seem unreliable.
i wonder if this method can be used to unban a ps5 ?
There are multiple "per console" chips. Changing NOR is not enough.
I'm not sure that unbanning will ever be possible.
hi How can I get the firmware file for what type of PS5 motherboard?
My Ps5 BLOD, and dead
Good to know sony is cheap just like me. A 9mA total current draw an LED would take more than that. 🤣 I knew you would work it out and get it fixed.
I finally figured it out with the help of @Steve_be. Thanks for watching!
@@ToltecMerc I will check out his channel.
Can anybody just use you as a customer ?
No, I am not a business. This is just a part-time hobby for me.

Hmm. Interesting fault
Thank you! It was kind of interesting.
