Had a -89 FXR back in 1998, when I lived in Sweden. So many years of riding and wrenching old Pans and Shovels, which I still do especially the wrenching part, but when I got hold of this -88 FXR a few years ago, I dont feel like riding my other old bikes as much, such an allround bike with attitude. Your bike looks like a very refined CVO bike having that kickass paint job.

Sorry if I missed it in the description but was wondering what RPM you have it set at idle? Getting a 110ci for my Twin Cam & S&S tell me no less than 1000...cheers
Wow riding video really shows how it all works, really well. Did you say it runs standard carby dyna ignition system rather than thunderheart. Could ya do a short vid showing this. Regards from South aus.
Cheers mate, yeah it runs well but Im definitely riding it beyond how it probably should be ridden given components and heights. But its good that it can still hustle along. With ignition, yeah, its not running a Thunderheart. In my opinion its wayy to basic and you can have an ignition system thats leaps and bounds ahead for not much more effort at all. My setup is similar to most 88cu carb bikes, but I can definitely do a run down of the setup and what it needs. Applicable to any TC motor in a custom application really, or someone wanting to convert. Ive got all the components for the next build on the bench ready to roll.
I'm aware of the lifter issues (and already have new ones ready to roll), 96's engines aren't anything to write home about either, their cranks are generally atrocious. Engine choice was because it was available to me, brand new (removed from a bike at the dealer before it rolled out with a 120R) for cheaper than the cost of a second hand evo. I could have bought a 96, or 103, and taken it out to 107, and spent money one everything else. But this was brand new, no need to open up, motor. New one im building is a Timken bottom end, which is by far and away the way to go for a stock case.

Nice build - I think the front forks should have been painted blue to match the rest of the bike - but still nice.
You dont really 'paint' aluminium fork stanchions,. I did consider having them reanodized but it would be wayy to much I reckon.
