I just found a god rank Li mei player and befriended him. Guy was a nightmare. He played with Lao as a kameo and honesy is great option. Lao is broken anyways but: Improves her zoning, gives her low overhead hard-to-blockables, you can low hat to your stagger layers ans stay plus everytime. Also nice set ups with lantern and held low hat
It's actually kinda funny to me that it took a street fighter player to notice the strength of Lei mei. I've been screaming her praises since launch and I'm actually a shao main. A couple of things I'd like to add though. First u can enforce additional pressure with f4. F4,4 is an overhead and once established u can do f4 into her meterburn fireball which is 0 on block. Her meterburn cartwheel kick in the air is safe and it can be done right off the ground for an unreactable overhead. Her meterburn shi zu dragon kick is 7 frames. Meaning u can punish all block pokes. With the right kameo u can get a full combo punish. Which leads me to the next thing, her best kameo imo is scorpion. It gives her the only thing that I believe she's lacking which is big damage on every touch. I have a full combo video if ur interested.
This is all great and I have been experimenting with scorpion and Lao a bit. The Ex air move is scary because it’s flawless blockable for -15 but the F4 into fireball isn’t bad but your opponent can reversal punish with armor no matter what route you take. I do love her 7f special punish though!!
@sny_guy right off the ground its not ganna really get flawless blocked. It's unreactable. So yea they can guess and potentially flawless block u but I doubt it lol. Especially since its double hitting so they have to double flawless it. But they can armor through on the second part of the meterburn version for sure. Yea unfortunately f4 into fireball still has a gap. As a matter a fact f4 by itself can be punished lol. I think it's a move u still gatta use to keep people honest since it's an advancing low. But if we are being honest just about everything in this game has a gap u can armor through with kenshi with sent being the exception. But yea I like her with lao too.
@@prsuave420You dont have do double flawless block it. Meterless version is unsafe, you need to only flawless block the 3rd hit of amplified move so you make it -15. And you dont even have to guess between amplified and non-amplified version
I’m mainly a street fighter player. Currently 1900 MR with Guile, and wanted to try out MK1. Immediately gravitated towards Li Mei because she kind felt like a SFV character. Stubby buttons but lots of plus frames. This guide really helped me put her game plan into perspective for me.
Just wanted to say your Mileena+Jax guide has brought my game to another level. I never would have known how good her setplay is with out your video. Keep up the good work!
I think it's probably important to mention her aerial db4 as an instant air overhead. Starts up in 10 frames and from an instant air, it's basically a 14 frame overhead. With certain kameos (eg. cyrax, scorpion, goro) she can convert for a full combo off the ex version. The ex version is also safe (-6) although does have a flawless block which makes it punishable. If your opponent is respecting you, it further enforces her mixup game. Also great as a jump back to bait pokes.
I feel like street fighter players have way better fundamentals (not me lol) and I feel like Li Mei is so good for them. You can use a Kameo to just amplify your playstyle!!
You can also use scorpian (up+cameo) to extend shi zu lion and pretty muuch everyone of li mei's special moves, including charge Great content here! more li mei videos plz!

As someone who wants to main Li Mei, this is really informative. It's great to know she's a good beginner character. I loved her since the PS2 era games, and I love her return in MK One. I had no idea her Nova Blast was one of the quicker projectiles, and that air combo is great. I'm also impressed that Goro can give some love for Li Mei, as my cousin thought he was underwhelming. And he's more skilled at fighting games than I. I really loved using Johnny Cage in MK11, so that comparison also appeals to me. Thank you for these tips!

I’ve been playing Li Mei since the beta and gotten to grand master rank on KL. She is underrated and a combo machine! Sonya and scorpion I feel are the best kameos for big combos.
I seem to have a thing for rogue characters and builds in games, then. Li Mei is the character I wanna main for online play, so it's not surprising that she appeals to me. :p
This definitely helped me under the power of jailing. Frames still can still be a little confusing but now I see how I can use dragons' tail and also jab, 1,2! Thanks :}
Just subbed. I’m glad I found your channel. I main Li Mei and have over 500 games on her. I didn’t know about the poke reversal with db 3. Definitely gonna implement that. Another tip that people might find useful is your 124 string can break armor if you time it right with their wake-up against certain characters. That has won me a lot of matches. Love the guide!

@@sny_guy I use Cyrax. I haven’t really experimented with other kameos yet. Cyrax is just the perfect Kameo for keeping up her pressure, and combos with him are super satisfying.

Mad damage kameo I’ve been using is scorpion and his far pop up also launches for counter poke punishing. Lao does Lao things so it only helps her pressure. Never used goro yet but I will.

I feel so goofy I did not make the connection between her an Ryu lol. I was jsut goofing in practice with her and played a few casuals to just adjust to her movement and strings and she is pretty sick.
#BuffMileena i was legit cry laughing at this point 😂 I definitely want to use Li Mei its just so many GAPS 😭 when so many characters have full on 4-6 hit stagger mid starters that go to full combo launchers and plus frames. She reminds me of a mixture of Cyrax in MKX and Demolition Sonya had a child that grew up and mad this induction of Li Mei firework godess. She also reminds me of Jacqui with the short stubby raptor arm reach.
Yesssss the stubby-ness is awful! Her pressure can be so scary though and I’m so intrigued. Mileena is still bae but I’m looking at some of these other ladies!
@sny_guy just checked its 101/75 wl so almost 200 12 214 d1 or d4 is a good test string to test if your opponent knows gaps because in "theory" it jails
yhen id use the tips in this video to mess with them scorp is a crazy kameo matchup wise the only people im struggling against atm is shao motaro and havik and cage keeps feeling like they just out me with most buttons scorp kameo allows you to combo off of alot same as goro but especially your aerial kick
@sny_guy dude it legit made me switch off Mileena. I sometimes get tempted when I see Mileena/KL together but damn its frustrating. Its like I cant poke safely without kameo and that sucks
Never played a SF in my life and now I understand why Li Mei has felt so weird to me. Concepts like staggering, frame traps, (auto) shimmies, just never seemed that prevalent to me in MK games, so I just ain't that familiar with them.
@@sny_guy I've been having a lot of fun with her, I was just getting extremely frustrated because I felt like I just didn't have the same tools as the rest of the cast if that makes sense? She doesn't have mixups like sub or shao (low/overhead starters), she doesn't get 50% off a touch a like baraka or raiden, she doesn't have the long ranged normals or command grabs of someone like Reiko. I thought she was a rush down in-your-face character like Giovanna from Strive, but as soon as people started stuffing all my strings, I felt like I had nothing. I guess I just didn't know what tools to look for til your video, if that makes sense haha. Haven't lost a KL match since watching your vid so I definitely learned something.
Stryker seems like a great assist for Li Mei. -+6 overhead that cant be poke out of in most cases, -+1 low -a mid projectile to force blocking -a restand that leave you +30 something
I think Stryker had amazing uses like this with everyone to force some mix! I don’t love the lack of damage with him and think I would rather use Goro or Cyrax for crazy pressure.

Scorpion is very good, with him you can punish pokes for 46% with 1 bar 2 kameos

I love Li Mei and I love that NRS designer her the way they did. It really takes some pleasant effort to win on her against some skilled players.

@sny_guy dude it legit made me switch off Mileena. I sometimes get tempted when I see Mileena/KL together but damn its frustrating. Its like I cant poke safely without kameo and that sucks

I feel like li Mei with scorpion is the best for her. you can get so much damage off with them.

Never played a SF in my life and now I understand why Li Mei has felt so weird to me. Concepts like staggering, frame traps, (auto) shimmies, just never seemed that prevalent to me in MK games, so I just ain't that familiar with them.
She takes like a weird patient mindset to play. Can seem boring at first but then she becomes VERY fun!
@@sny_guy I've been having a lot of fun with her, I was just getting extremely frustrated because I felt like I just didn't have the same tools as the rest of the cast if that makes sense? She doesn't have mixups like sub or shao (low/overhead starters), she doesn't get 50% off a touch a like baraka or raiden, she doesn't have the long ranged normals or command grabs of someone like Reiko. I thought she was a rush down in-your-face character like Giovanna from Strive, but as soon as people started stuffing all my strings, I felt like I had nothing. I guess I just didn't know what tools to look for til your video, if that makes sense haha. Haven't lost a KL match since watching your vid so I definitely learned something.

Stryker seems like a great assist for Li Mei.
-+6 overhead that cant be poke out of in most cases,
-+1 low
-a mid projectile to force blocking
-a restand that leave you +30 something
I think Stryker had amazing uses like this with everyone to force some mix! I don’t love the lack of damage with him and think I would rather use Goro or Cyrax for crazy pressure.
