b3,4 on block is +7. you can fish with b2 after for them trying to press. if you get the hit you get another turn of b3. if blocked, it is safe. if you cancel into ex projectile you are +0. if the projectile hits, you get the combo. With Lao again +2. Yes, Li Mei is fun to a certain degree. I was only able to make it to God rank with her. Because past that I lack the patience and fundamentals to deal with all the cheesy kusoge stuff. But then again, I only played her with Scorpion for the absurd damage which I felt she relies on a lot because she gets zoned out without Lao hat and especially once she gets into mid range she loses hard to almost everybody. I think Kung Lao Kameo really makes her viable because with Scorpion she just does not have the options to open up people as often as she would require in order to compensate for the areas she loses at without solid fundamentals. I also do not like her fatal blow. You barely can combo into it. But of course the most frustrating thing is the stubbiness of all her moves and the fact that her fastest mid is 12 frames while Johnny gets a mid with 9 frames, that advances further, starts combos and enables stagger pressure. Oh yeah, off that reserval punish I get 53% damage with Scorpion (however it is two Kameo calls and two bars).
I agree altho scorpion kameo is sick combo wise but there is no reliable way to pressure or open up. this is why I'm mostly on Lao with her. i advise u to go for the kameo switch. Deeper mindgames and opportunities > extended combos and damage

An easy thing to remember to combo into fatal blow use standing 3 after almost anything and you will get the fatal guaranteed if that doesn't work learn her 2 lantern setups I can get 574 damage from fatal blow combos
I been running her with Scorpioon for the damage but after watching this I took her in teh lab for a few minutes to learn using Lao with her for pressure and I like her much better with LAo BC she gives me more options and better pressure. I wnet into Kasuals for a lil bit and its so much better to run her with

I always find characters like this that want to be fullscreen or range zero interesting because decisions on whether to approach or retreat when you end up at that uncomfortable midrange position are very dynamic and vary player to player as well as based on your opponent’s character. Characters that only excel at one range make approaching or retreating a very straightforward decision, as do characters that excel at two ranges but one of them is midrange, because that is often basically just excelling at one range but it is really wide (midrange and further or midrange and closer). Being decent at every range is also interesting because then it becomes all about playing at a range where your opponent’s character is weak. Some characters excel at every range (if they aren’t OP they have a big weakness outside of neutral or poor movement) and those are straight up boring unless their movement is good enough to make it worth it to play to your opponent’s weaknesses rather than just wherever you happen to be.
Full screen she is useless without Lao. Mid screen she gets kept out/zoned the worst unless she wants to spend the bar and armor through something. She should be destroying everyone upclose but does not have any mix which is why Lao is mandatory to actually enable her. Low hat does so much for her. Enables her zoning, allows her to approach mid screen and gives her some 50/50s (generically of course). And she really needs it to reclaim turns.
@romzen even if she is good up close. She can't use her plus frames for a good mixup. Like her mid is slow. She can't benefit that much from her plus frames

In essence, good fundamentals do indeed pay off with Li Mei. But they do pay off even more with Johnny. If you are plus but your only safe option is duck punch, then that means that you are still relying on mindgames to open up people upclose. Because even a d1 on hit only extends your insignificant turn for another useless 1, 2.

punishing pokes for full combos up to 50% is absolutely wild, surprised not more people are taking advantage of it.
You just block low and duck she has no overhead mix ups that’s why.
