How smooth was your finish? I’m surprised they didn’t polish the pool after the acid bath. The quartz can be sharp and it’s exposed after the acid washes away the white Portland cement.
I am wondering why did they acid wash it at the end after plaster was done? What was the point of that on brand new plaster as the acid does eat up the plaster. Maybe there is an explanation I’m not aware of.
Acid washing a pool, even after applying a diamond brite or similar finish, is typically done to remove surface stains, dirt, or mineral deposits that might appear after the finish is applied. Here’s why it might happen: 1. Surface Cleaning: After applying a new finish like Diamond Brite, some residue, dust, or spots may remain on the surface. Acid washing helps clean off this residue and ensures the surface looks uniform and smooth. 2. Etching: A light acid wash can etch the surface slightly, improving the overall appearance by eliminating imperfections or haze that could appear after the pool finish cures. 3. Mineral Stains: Sometimes, even new surfaces can develop minor mineral stains (from water or construction dust). Acid washing helps remove these stains. Acid washing is done carefully so it doesn’t damage the new finish, using diluted acid solutions to clean without causing harm.
Well, it takes a day to drain the pool then it takes a day to ship out all the bad spots and clean all that mess up and it takes a day to strip all the tile off and then it takes another day to do the plaster work if you have enough people And then he takes a day to fill it
This crew never wiped down the finish with towels to expose the aggregate after troweling the way I've seen done in other videos. Wonder why not. Also, others have shown waiting a day before acid washing. Was a different brand of plaster. Does this make a difference in application?
Hitting the aggregate with a pressure washer takes off most of the dust that covers the aggregate, once you acid wash it it will make the aggregate pop a little more. Once the pool is filled you brush everyday for 30 days and that will help take off even more of that dust layer from the finish. Keeping the pool acidic during the curing process will help as well.
SO after the acid pour, you did not have to do anything else to the surface. I heard it has to be scrubed with ?? So did the water stay clear with not brown spots showing up Tks

nice job - might be doing this myself - but definitely not alone. clearly gonna want some help.
Go for it!
Do you know the kind of tile used on the pool line
It’s a glass tile that I want at a tile shop cost me about $1500. It’s twilight series turquoise GT 82323T for glass mosaic tile. We love it. It really gives the pool. A cool look
thanks for the video. the installation manual says that coveage of an 80-lb bag is approx 22 sqft. is that your experience?
I do believe so
That is for 3/8 to 1/2 in.
We did a great job!
I need to hire those guys.
How much did you charge for this job?
About 7500
Using a plastering machine would be easier for mixing/applying the diamond bright/pebble sheen.
That's a great idea!
What was the cost?
7k
@@TomLeeman 7K? Where are you located, I need this done in Pensacola, FL.
Those guys not wearing a respirator while applying acid are crazy. Great video!
I know I can’t believe it. I was watching from the second floor. No way I’d be down there breeding that but that’s the way they did it.
Muriatic acid? If so that shit is crazy. Use it to clean pools to re epoxy. That and a scrub brush works good. Never dealt with a pool that dirty.
WHAT WAS TOTAL COST?
About 8000
Great work
Thank you! Cheers!
How much is a job like that
8000
Thanks for watching
I purchased the tile separately. It cost me 1500 and then the job was 7500 so all total about nine grand but they made some mistakes and wouldn’t come back and fix it so you can get what you pay for.
That was a low price for the work.
How much should something like this cost? I have gotten a couple quotes and compared to the some from last year they are easily 10,000 added to the old price.
It was about 7000+1500 for the tile
@@TomLeeman Thanks for the response. I am getting quotes for $17,000 for similar work in about the same size pool. When just last year they quoted around what you just said.
@@totallynottrademarked5279 for a resurfacing?
@@islandwayaustin Yeah. Crazy. Some light paver work around one of the drains where ants undermined them. Other than that it is just resurfacing.
Some company here in San Antonio quoted me 18k similar size but in quote it was 11k in labor cost
How do you deal with hyrdostatic pressure once draining the pool?
Theres no why I can accomplish this in a day before having to fill back up the pool before jt shifts?
Our pool was empty for about a week. It’s weird to bust out all the holes and holes tear out all the tile and it was fine.
@@TomLeeman maybe that's why it was ok. The holes released the pressure
I'm a big DIY'er. I've built additions, rewired my whole home, and many other big projects but after careful research I'm thinking this job is much bigger than what a man and his wife can do....😆
@@justpassingthrough3166 the problem with this is everything up until you put on the diamond Brite you can do yourself but once you get to that phase you need like five guys to get it done super fast in one day. Good luck thank you for watching.
THERE IS A BOTTOM DRAIN THAT HAS A PRESURE RELIEF VALVE FOR THAT PROBLEM
Hello, I am watching your video and the price you stated I know I would have to take out a 2nd. My pool looks just like yours. Where are you located for quotes on my pool?
We are in South Florida and they charge about $7000 plus the cost of materials and tiles
A concrete mix will work, to mix the plaster??? Good video. Good explanation. Good job thanks for sharing
You bet
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
This was about 7500 with the tile which I bought from another source, but I have to say these guys weren’t the greatest mechanics and there were some flaws but for the price I guess it was worth it
What flaws & mechanics please?
Hello, I would like to know if there is anyone here in Houston, Texas who has experience repairing pools?
Good question I’m not too sure but I am hopeful that somebody will answer you
For a point of reference, can anyone give me their best estimate of how much this job would cost today?
I think about eight grand
30k
😢
10-15 thousand
Thanks ❤
You're welcome 😊
Florida
HOW MUCH DID THIS COST YOU?
Well, the tile was $1500 and the job was 7500
@Tom Leeman where at in the US?
@@whitephoenixfire88 Florida
@@TomLeeman that seemed like a LOT of work for $7500 to be divided among all those guys. It was extremely labor intensive. I thought some of the applications were very sloppy (and dangerous) but cheap labor comes with a price. Always.
@@TomLeemanyes understood. But they cannot spend or eat tile. So they had to divide the $7500 for the labor part.
So labour intensive I want to. buy fiberglass
Yeah, this takes about five days one day to drain it one day to chip out all of the tile and grout one day to pop all the bubbles and holes and tear out all the loose diamond Brite one day to put the tile on one day to let it dry and fix itself and then you need about 10 guys to come here and put the diamond Brite on and then you gotta fill it up which takes a day. It’s a whole process.
Is the commentator Clark Howard?
Yes, he is. Thanks for watching.
@@TomLeeman genius!!! lol we are getting ready to do this to our pool lol
It would be more trouble than it’s worth to take them to court for the amount of money. It’d be cheaper really just to fix it myself, but I’m gonna live with it for right now.
Is this crew for hire?
I don’t think so. I tried to get them to come back and fix some things, and they just ghosted me.
In my life long building trades career. Never got the chance to build a concrete pool.
Good luck on building your pool. Let me know how it comes out.
@@TomLeeman lol oh no. Always wanted too since i have had my hands in so much since 1980. Just wanted to build one at some point using ICF blocks. Missed the chance
Great professional work. The only problem I can see is the lack of respirators when applying the muriatic acid. One whiff of that stuff and my nose rebels. Those guys were breathing it into their lungs. They'll be lucky to make it to retirement.
I know it’s not very smart. I stayed in the house when they did that.
Arent you the boss? If so wouldn't this open you up to a lawsuit if you don't provide ppe equipment if they get sick? Not very smart.
Bob Ross of Pool plaster 😂 percolate 😂 great class🫡🇺🇸
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your new pool.
Looks like a pretty good job with attention to detail. Would you recommend these guys? Great vid and nice play-by-play.
There were some things that I was not happy with, so I don’t know if I would recommend these guys because they didn’t come back and fix some problems that I had one was there completely in case it light, which was a total mistake and there’s some really rough areas on the surface bottom
@TomLeeman what did you mean by they incased the light?
The bond cote is not meant to be rolled on. It should be applied with a broom to create a rough surface for the plaster to bite
Thanks for those tips. These guys that we hired we’re not the best I can tell you that you see anything else that you think they did wrong. Please write in the comments.
I beg a differ it can be rolled on or sprayed.
@@TomLeemanSo as a subcontractor you acknowledge that you didn't hire a quality crew? Wow, that's not cool. I guess whatever to maximize your profit.
@@TheGoldenTrout no as a homeowner, I hired Gulfstream Pools and they hired these guys as subcontractors
@@TomLeeman ahhhh, got it.
I got a quote for 25$ grand to do this and tile. Sound like to much?
As three times more than these guys charged
@@TomLeeman It depends on how big the pool is and also how bad the old plaster is.
