Hi Becks and all, I have to do a huge thumbs up for your mention of leaving a loop instead of cutting the yarn. NEVER thought of that and it's a brilliant tip. Also love your pop-up kitties!
As a fairly beginner spinner, i used the fibre i got from an advent calendar and although the result was quite colorful and outside my comfort zone i love it! Such a versatile pattern!
Thank you for this video. I loved listening even though I didn't understand a lot of what you said. I am not currently a spinner. I have never knitted a project that includes mosaic knitting, but I am intreagued! I am currently knitting a simple stockinette cardigan of my own pattern. I had to take a break from knitting in April when I took a spill on some ice and broke my wrist. I am slowly getting strength, mobility and flexibility back. I knitted a few stitches today, as I watched your inspiring project and enjoyed your kitty's antics. God bless. ❤
Your cat is so kind and patient with you for your recording sessions. My friend's cat was so rowdy recently and also stole salmon off the table at Christmas. Naughty boy.
Great video, thank you. I've made both the shawl and the cowl using handspun and love them both. The shawl is mine but the cowl I gifted to a good friend.
Hello, Becks! I'm thrilled to have you back in my TH-cam feed. As usual, the production quality of this episode is outstanding. I can't help but notice how much work you put into sharing all of the segments with us (which I know takes some doing when you're filming over time). It makes us feel so included in the process. Here's hoping you're having more cozy moments back at the needles.
There you are! Wonderful to see you again. Now I have an idea on what to do with my home spun. Thank you so much for all of your teaching and inspiration. Vivian Ann on the side of the mountain in northeast Tennessee
Thanks, Becks, so good to see you back! I began the Night Shift Shawl using Schoppel Edition 3 yarns. I really didn't like the way it began. And it was not what I was in the mood for. But now, I love the idea of using my own handspun and making it more cohesive. I am always impressed with your quality and production of these videos. Thanks!
oh and forgot to mention that the whole vlog was very good! My friend gifted me this pattern quite awhile ago and I will definately have more confidence now after seeing you knit!
Great episode!! I have made the cowl in naturally dyed handspun. Turns out those Autumn colours look amazing on my daughter, so I gave it to her knowing I had plenty other bits and bobs of handspun to make another for me 😁 I have also used my handspun as the blips only in the Shifty sweater, used a commercial yarn for all the background. I so love these slip stitch patterns, for me I prefer them to colourwork. Currently collecting/ordering tops to spin for another Shifty 👍🏼 Have a great week and stay safe 🥰
I’m making moonwhistile. One of Andreas newer patterns. It’s very nice easy and a fun knit. It’s very similar to the shifty patterns interspersed with garter stitch sections. I ❤️ slip stitch patterns so much.
Love your videos. I am just about to start The Shift in oddments of hand spun. Looks like you are wearing another Andrea Mowry which I also have in my queue
Lovely video as always! I also made the night shift recently from hand spun I made during the Tour de Fleece in July. It is the coziest shawl I’ve ever done and I know it will be my go to for the cold winters here in Maine. I’ve done several Shifty hats and plan to make the Shift cowl soon. I hadn’t considered the sweater but might have to have a second look to see if I can use up more of the eclectic hand-spun I’ve accumulated.
I enjoyed the video, and was very glad to see you back. I really appreciate seeing the way the handspun looks when knitted up. I very seldom use commercially produced yarn anymore, and have been spinning my own for over 10 years. I was interested to hear your comment about using Andrea Mowry's stitch pattern in a crescent shaped shawl. I, too, don't do so well with a long point, but really do like the appearance of the stitch in this pattern.
I've had a nightshift project on my to-do list for some time now. I'm thinking I might start with the cowl as I need a break from knitting shawls after doing three in the past year. Thanks for the review. Its the most informative one I've seen and just confirms that it's time to give it a go.
On your lazy Kate what are the plastic poles you have.. love that Idea of doing that. I want to knit the shift cardigan the shiftagan. I am new to spinning so I have the time between now and octobet Rhinebeck to get it done. Your work is lovely
Thank you so much Ruth, I hope you enjoy your Shiftigan, it’s a great project for handspun! It would be amazing as a Rhinebeck project! My lazy Kate is the Akerkate by Akerworks so the poles are just the standard shafts that are built into it. They’re also available in a few other formats like the Clampy Kate, Simple Kate and Butterfly Kate.
Welcome back! I'm happy to see a video from you again and I'm looking forward to more :~) O and your sweater has turned out beautiful, as did the shawl!
Nice shawl! I have a similar plan, but I’m also trying to spin the same colours like in the pattern. I have 2 yarns done, 2 tops dyed by me waiting to be spun, an I still have to find/dye one colour. It is a pretty big project on drop spindle.
Thanks for sharing. What a great idea for hand spun yarn! I'm a beginner spinner and I have a slowly building collection of fibre to spin. Maybe I can aim for the sweater if I match up some of the fibre and spin the same weights, rather than just spinning without an end in mind. I really need to practice, but struggle with not knowing what the yarn will be :-)
I love seeing these knitting spotlight episodes! Your hand-spun is so inspiring and I love seeing examples of patterns that work well with hand-spun. I'm currently working on a hand-spun (half) evenstar shawl which is a pattern I've knit, oh one and a half times already, and I love it in hand-spun! (how many times can I write hand-spun?!) Anyway, I love your videos and I'm glad that you're still making these! I hope to see more spinning centric videos in the future!
The shift cowl infuriated me. It turned out so small compared to the photo and when I reached out to the designer she said I should have known that…like, how? Left a bitter taste in my mouth tbh
I am going to start on the nightshift so I"m researching everything (I might decide to start with the Shift)...but I noticed your yarn caddy...where did you buy that? I feel I'm going to NEED it!!! Thanks!
PPS :) I've made the shift cowl twice now (one for myself and my mother) It is so easy to wear and I love it. I'm currently working on the sweater and am having to rip back due to it being too big...which it sounds like multiple people have had that issue. That just means more knitting with handspun!
I really, really love it! Some people prefer angled or horizontal lazy Kates but this works really well for my setup and I love how easy it is to store (and I'm ALL about things that fold to take up less space!)
@@TinyFibreStudio I posted the question about this above - but Akerworks doesn't seem to sell this multi yarn version...any tips on finding one? Thanks!
Perfect timing! Was in process of starting to watch your podcasts from the start, and also looking at Andrea Mowry designs! Agreement on weather and knitting, try having days too hot for sleeves and even touching a ball of wool!
The one at the beginning and end is Wool and Honey, also by Andrea Mowry. www.dreareneeknits.com/shop/wool-honey?category=sweater I have a Project Diary about that one as well. th-cam.com/video/GWOrk7vw-Ck/w-d-xo.html
I am so glad to see that someone else has kids just like me that just has to get onto the picture and be the subject just like mine do, but you just have to love them. Your wool is just beautiful, Inalso spin but it has not been long. Maybe some day I will be doing as well as you. The shawl is beautiful, I will need to order the pattern. Thank you, give your cat a hug for me. Alicia
Hi Alicia 👋🏻 Hug delivered! 😺 I love my cats but I have just had to cat-proof one of my wheels so I can have a project close at hand without them trying to eat the yarn or brake band! 🤦🏼♀️ Thank you for the compliments on my spinning - it takes practice to make the yarn you want but fortunately the practice is enjoyable!

Gathering info ahead of knitting NightShift shawl for the first time, your video gave me a better understanding of the colourwork
Hi Becks and all, I have to do a huge thumbs up for your mention of leaving a loop instead of cutting the yarn. NEVER thought of that and it's a brilliant tip. Also love your pop-up kitties!
Looks like I need to spin for another one!! All of your videos are so wonderful and helpful!
Thanks again, have a bless day and Happy New Year🍇🎉🪅
Beautiful shawl. Your hand spun and dyed yarn 🧶, hand crafted- it’s a treasure and will keep you warm. Thank you for posting this diary.
Starting one soon !
A wonderful video, a beautiful shawl. You are such a gifted spinner/knitter. Wow!
Thank you for your super good explanation of spinning, dyeing and entanglement. I am very happy.
Your home spun turned out lovely. I like your yarn management and the color pattern choice.
What a beautiful shawl! I love your colour choices
As a fairly beginner spinner, i used the fibre i got from an advent calendar and although the result was quite colorful and outside my comfort zone i love it!
Such a versatile pattern!
Your videos are excellent, this one is no exception. You've helped me a lot with my spinning and knitting. Thank you for all the work you put in.
I also knit the shawl, and just kept nodding at each of your observations, "same, same here". Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank you for a very informative video.
Your cat is beautiful! I’m in the planning stages of this shawl…
I just purchased the Shift Cowl. I'm watching all the videos on it to understand more about it before jumping in. Thank you for this video!
That’s exciting - good luck with yours. I’m sure you’ll love it!
Great Diary Entry. Love Andrea Mowry's designs. Glad she let you use the photos, very inspiring.
Loved seeing your project!

I love your version of the Night Shift Shawl. I love your cat too❤️
Beautiful ❤
So nice to see you back. I made the shift a while ago, but not from my handspun, and it was enjoyable, but took a surprisingly long time
Your cat is so kind and patient with you for your recording sessions. My friend's cat was so rowdy recently and also stole salmon off the table at Christmas. Naughty boy.
😂 Let’s just say that editing can hide a multitude of sins! 🤣 I wouldn’t trust mine with salmon either!
Great video, thank you. I've made both the shawl and the cowl using handspun and love them both. The shawl is mine but the cowl I gifted to a good friend.

your yarn colors are absolutely beautiful.
Great to see you back. Love the shawl off to look at the pattern
Had to watch twice as I kept getting distracted by your lovely furballs! They're gorgeous...and so is the shawl!
Hi Becks, thank you for the video and it’s great having back on my TH-cam heavy rotation :) 🙏🏻☀️

Gorgeous colors! Just love how this turned out, thank you for sharing! Can't wait to start on mine now that you've given me some confidence.
Glad you're back!
Love your style, you show a more in depth knitting description without giving away the pattern. It makes me want to knit that pattern.😀
Thank you - it’s a very fine line to tread sometimes! Glad you enjoyed it.

Lovely. Great project to use some of my stash.
It's beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
thanks for a great video! I am thinking about making the shifty sweater and spun my own yarn for it. But I am not really sure how to go about it.
Loving your hand spun yarn! 🧶
Thank you..loved this video
I just spun 3 color ways for the shift cowl. Can’t wait to cast on!
Love your videos. I am just about to start The Shift in oddments of hand spun. Looks like you are wearing another Andrea Mowry which I also have in my queue
The shawl looks lovely and thanks for showing this as I've been debating doing one of the fade patterns for ages
Absolutely love your videos! They are so complete. Can you please post a link to the needles you like to use? Thank you so much.

It’s the AkerKate by Akerworks.
