  • The Shifty Sweater by Andrea Mowry is a very popular pattern for using with handspun yarn, but some people have had some issues with the fit. Will I experience the same thing? Will the newly-modified v2.0 pattern help ensure you don't have the same problems? Watch to find out.
Totally forgot to mention that I modified the length of the body and sleeves - nothing fancy required, I just kept knitting to the desired length and added a sleeve decreases as appropriate.

Zauberball® / Zauberball® Crazy by Schoppel-Wolle and Cascade Heritage Wave are popular alternatives, although both are fingering weight so some adjustments may be needed for gauge. Ideally you want something with long colour changes.

    Resolving Jogs
Suzanne Bryan demonstrates a technique for jogless joins on multi-row stripes:
    Part 1: • Jogless Jogs Part 1
    Part 2: • Jogless Jogs Part 2 - ...
The staggered version is what Shifty knitters have used.
From Ravelry user Alywit (posted here for those who can't access Ravelry):
"To avoid the appearance of a seam at the BOR, I’m following Suzanne Bryan’s instructions for staggered jogless jog, slipping two sts on even numbered rows in the pattern charts (and slipping 4 sts for row 8 of the big blips to make sure I slip the worked sts of the contrast color), and placing a ‘moving BOR’ after the slipped sts. I am keeping the original BOR as a reference. Then, to make sure that the contrast color staggers as shown in the chart (sts 1-2 for rows 1-2 and sts 3-4 in rows 5-6, ect.), I skip the first two sts of the first repeat of the following odd row (start at sts 3 in the chart, then repeat chart a). When switching colors, bring the new color over the old."

One of my favorite fiber people! Have missed your educational videos and opinions!
I too watch old shows on TV and if my project is extra naughty it goes in time out and I tend to pout. Lol The sweater turned out beautiful, lovely colors too!

Thank you for the honest review. I was going to start this pattern next week so this helps me avoid some of those hiccups

Thanks for your observations on this pattern. I think I will give this one a miss, not a big fan of short rows and complications of the sort you encountered. Your yarn colour ways are what make this project visually exceptional. Your hand spun has made this pattern beautiful and unique. I love variegated yarn as it seems to trick the eye and you are quite right when you say that a solid colour would have been less forgiving. Thank you and well done you💐

Thank you Nancy. I'm glad it was helpful. The technique is mosaic knitting and you could easily translate the concept to any other pattern as long as you account for any difference in gauge. There are also other 'shift' pattens like the cowl that might be worth checking out. I was really pleased with the colours of the finished garment and I always love seeing how other people's handspun versions turn out as they're all so different.

I tried, the word is tried, to make the shifty cowl and I was very frustrated. Luckily I was using scraps of yarn so I wasn't sad to stop working on it. The idea of a stash busting pattern is exciting. I have lots of hand spun from my early days that would work beautifully. However, I just felt very frustrated whilst working on it. I'm glad it wasn't the sweater or the rest of my hair would be white.

This was a thorough, complete and helpful review of the pattern. I've only been knitting for one year and I'm a long way from trying a sweater - any sweater, but I completely enjoy your videos. Your kitty "helping' you spin is a riot!

Informative and cute too. So glad you are making videos again. What was your fiber content? And was it 2 or 3 ply?

Thank you! Definitely a labour of love! 😊 My hair’s a work in progress but I’m getting somewhere with figuring out what it needs to not just turn into a ball of frizz!

@@TinyFibreStudio i have thick horse hair that is a frizz ball especially after I wash it. I found a natural hair oil that you put on dry hair. It did not make me greasy but it did kill the frizz. Try something you put on your hair dry if you haven’t. It made my hair behave a bit more. Your beautiful just the way you are though!

Which size did you knit to? I'm short but chesty so I tend to go for medium and hope for the best, lol.

This one was the small size with a fair bit of ease. I also tend to just take a wild guess!
