    Love watching the torque wrench click as he gives it an extra quarter turn

    I followed every step of that thinking “I can do that, and that and that” then he casually went over to his hydraulic press. That was the end of what I could do lol

      Go to your local garage they will press the old one out and new one in for you, will save you A LOT of hassle and having to rent/buy a wheel bearing press kit

    Did this today o/s front. 12 plate. Id say your fooling yourselves guys without a press. My local garage did it for free. Be prepared. I had to roast the top 2 nuts also. They were tight to the end truly. I Used muscles today that hadnt seen the light of day for a while. Once i got the everything pressed by the garage i got it all put back together in half an hour. 2 man job to get the bottom ball joint back in. Tricky little bugger. Have fun. Saved 2 hundred pounds labour charges. Well worth trying it yourself but have access to a press. Trust me.

    i done my front fiesta 2005 1.4 tdci, bearing the other day, the new bearing came with a large circlip, the old bearing in the hub didnt have the circlip or any groove for it, have you come across this? regards Mark. Another good video.

    Some tools on show here.
    If when dismantling, you don't find a circlip, don't use the one in bearing kit.
    A vise is helpful. Punch hub off knuckle with appropriate size deep impact socket and pein or lump hammer. Punch bearing out with appropriate size deep impact socket, 40mm or over. Bang, bang, bang, it will want some wellie.
    To remove bearing race on hub, you can use a grinder with cutting disc, send a slim cold chisel or similar, under it to lift it slightly. Cut straight down the side of it, with care, now score the area removed with a cross, just chisel it off.
    To fit new bearing, fine emery cloth inside knuckle and hub shaft, tiny smear of grease on mating surfaces, use old bearing to tap or press in vice, new bearing in. Keep pressure even, if tapping, distribute taps.
    To fit hub, place deep impact socket on bench edge, place knuckle with bearing face on impact socket, simply tap hub into knuckle, take care not to mushroom spline for driveshaft. Why the socket underneath? Eliminates stress on the new bearing, as you hit it.
    It's home when the sound changes from a whack to a metallic ring.
    Everyone has a grinder, you can do it without a vice, it's just easier with, you need 2 deep impact sockets. About a 27mm and 40mm 👍

    I did this on an Mk5 ST once, without a press. I ended up with a slipped disk and it took 5 years of agony to heal lol.
    If you haven't got the right tools for a bearing, just pay someone; some jobs just aren't worth winging.

      @@Ljosi I couldn't tell you specifically at what point in the process I got the injury. I just got up the next morning and was in the worst agony I'd ever felt, and couldn't walk properly for 2 years.
      It got better after those 2 years, and then it went again.
      Still suffer to this day from it.

    Do you think it's usually ok to use the old wheel hub when replacing the wheel bearing? Any situation where you would want to replace the hub also? Thanks for the great vid

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is an opportunity and the old hub is in good condition, then you can use the old hub.

    good videos but you might want to feed back to your tech when torquing the bolt stop tightening when it clicks as you can clearly see/hear that its over tightened., sorry to be a buzz kill but its showing the wrong technique to others who are watching this.

      There is nothing wrong with that, the main thing is that dirt doesn't get into the roller mechanism.

      There is a groove on the trunnion for the retaining ring, you need to look at it.

    Only 158nm on hub nut?
    I thought it was more on fiesta but no sure.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, you are right the correct torque is 235 Nm, this will be useful for us. Thank you for your consideration.

  • @killerkip1
    @killerkip1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why use a torque wrench if your going to go a 1/4 turn or more past the click lol, I understand you prob don't even need a torque wrench for anything but the wheel nut (sometimes), but that's defeating the video if he doesn't do what your tell people to do lol.
    Thanks for the vid tho, super helpful!
