  • 2012 Nissan Frontier SV plowing 16" with a Snowsport HD utility plow. The plow was amazing, the truck did great, and the driver made some rookie mistakes (buried the front end twice and had to dig out). Tires are Bridgestone all terrain T/A, which are by no means snow tires. I question whether I would have had to dig out with adequate snow tires. Overall, this was a very capable setup and did everything I needed it to.

That little plow can move a lot! I don’t understand why people need such huge plows seems like over kill

Yes it can move a lot of snow! But it does have it's disadvantages (can't back drag or scrape).

@@mafortier85 Snowsport now offers a winch that can also apply downpressure. Its $549 but the advantages of those two birds with one stone are too much to resist. I have the hold down strap but its a pain to use only when needed and take on and off. I love my snowsport HD as well.

Umm, the people in Michigan with big plows are the ones doing it for a living and they could do what this guy did in a fraction of the time. Time is money

I have the same plow on a compact truck, going on 4 years now, and would encounter a similar speed bump with the buried blade. Granted, that's not the plows fault, (operator error) and I agree, it can be avoided. The simplicity of this plow / benefits for the homeowner far outweigh that very seldom seen situation.
However, after year 3 of use, I did add an inexpensive 12 volt winch to lift the plow blade from inside the truck, solving that random operator induced situation.
To my knowledge, the Snow Sport company does not offer said lift bracket, but, I chose a method found here, on TH-cam, and had it replicated locally at a metal fabrication shop. $35 dollars later, coupled with a rattle can of epoxy black spray paint, and I was able to install a 2500 lb Harbor Freight winch to make buried blades nothing more than a distant memory.
The winch addition was simple, a few quick connectors lets it live on the push tube frame, and a wireless remote for use in the cab of the truck eliminates to need to hard wire a controller via grommet to pass through the firewall and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Clean, neat and nothing remains on the truck exposed to corrosion.
I did change the pulley mechanism from the model I opted to copy, just for added strength. Some say it's over engineered, but I'd rather it not break when I need it most. Oh, and it's not one of those gaudy looking rigs that someone didn't think through, I'm pretty fussy about cosmetics as well. If you add one, (it changes everything you like about it), or would like a suggestion - parts list, just let me know. Hope that helps!

Thanks very much for the tip. I've seen the wench setup in a few video's, and they seem to work great. This was the only storm where I had a problem, especially since I've never plowed so much snow before. I suppose if I continue to have issues, the wench option will be a cheap, effective fix.
