- Imagine funds weren’t an issue and you wanted to build the ultimate off-road 911 - who would you call first? Well, if you want it to look exquisite and be ready for anything up to and including the Dakar Rally, you want it designed by Singer and engineered by Tuthill Porsche. That’s what the ACS is, and that's what Jack Rix is here to drive.
ALSO IN EPISODE THREE: Jethro asks a very important question: “Where did all the manuals go?” Because the rise of the EV and the proliferation of the auto has seen manuals all but disappear from UK shores. America, on the other hand, is positively rolling in them.
So we grabbed two of the most exciting manuals on sale in the US that we don’t get back in Blighty, and set about proving once and for all that manual beats auto...

Tuthill and Singer, a marriage made in heaven. Richard’s rally experience shines through as does Singer’s elegance.
With studio banter, TopGear online is evolving into TopGear proper. Bravo, lesser-known Tom Ford
That body control is INCREDIBLE. A full-bore flat shift into 5th gear and the inside looks like you're driving in a damn Rolls Royce!
thanks to the owner for letting this happen. great build great video, great production, well done.
We need more Jethro Bovingdon!
speeding at 300 k.m/h ..............and speaking relaxed like that.......THAT S WHAT A CALL IMPRESSIVE DRIVING SKILLS DUDE 👍
Fricking amazing..the original acs video blew my mind and I’ve have often wondered what happened to it. This is the answer I have been waiting for. Thank you so much for this unbelievable video.
Crazy! I literally looked up the original ACS yesterday and thought - I wonder what happened to it - and then saw this video!!!!
Man Lamborghini and Porche going off-roading is a plot twist I wasn’t expecting.
Porsche has been going offroad for a while now though,
They made the 959 with Rally in mind. And it ended up racing in Dakar.
Lambo also made LM002 back in the day a literal tank instead of suburban suv
But very welcome! =)
Porsche had some success in rallying in the 70s
Holy hell. This was the best video I've seen in a long while. You captured the emotions perfectly. Hats off 🎉
Wow, ANOTHER blank-Cheque car design with incredible performance that is completely unobtainable. What a refreshing recipe.
Fact.
Say this much for the dude that commissioned _BOTH_ of them: he's probably not the sort of guy to leave them sitting in a garage to appreciate. If they're going to be complete unobtainium, the thought that he'll probably drive the snot out of both of them on the regular is some comfort.
@@alistairwillock7266 is it?
What’s your ultimate 911?
A restomod 80s turbo
Not this. My ultimate 911 would be either be an Oak Green Metallic Singer DLS or Voodoo Blue 991.2 Speedster with dual tone Slate Grey/Speed Blue leather interior.
Definitely not a Singer. I don’t wanna an american Porsche. I prefer a 2017 RSR (mid engine)
Porsche 911(964)Turbo
Singer 911 DLS in a Martini racing livery.
TopGear's TH-cam channel videos are really on the up! Good job guys!
It kinda reminds me of the Pegasus, the race Porsche by Ken Block. But for the off-road. Sick car!
ok, this cliffhanger got me seriously hyped up! The Ruffian Mustang! My most favorite Mustang ever made.
Great video boys, totally enjoyed it! 🔝🔝🔝
Another great one from the Top Gear team, you need to make this series for every continent in the world ;) keep up with great work.
Beautiful machine.
"I handed it back in one piece" lol shots fired
That car is truly daft and I love it. Amazing
OK this format works, not being a trio trying to be something previously done. Keep this up, back to basics with good competent presenters on a modern platform. By the way great subjects and great filming.
Conjures images of a Porsche version of the Rally Fighter. That thing was awesome, can't believe they went under..Then again I could not have afforded to build mine either.
Loved the ACS! but i'm sorry, that manual vs auto test was bloody awful
sound so muted it might as well be flat 4 or inline 3 with electric turbo in mid rear engine form like cayman, so rear end wont get to the front so much when in a turn with lakc of traction as your bouncing on the rough off road.
Come on, it was a bit of silly fun. He even said at the end that he obviously wasn’t being serious, it was just an excuse to show off two manual super saloons
You must be fun at parties
There are too many journos banging on about manual gearboxes. Try another tune. It's this sort of dinosaur attitude that's killing the industry. Kids these days see F1, WRC, rallycross, drift drivers etc piloting cars with sequential shift; most won't give a stuff about middle-aged hacks' opinions.
Why not bemoan the lack of carbs to tinker with and the loss of advance/retard controls?
I hope you’re joking….
Singer's acs 911 porsche......... Ultimate fun 🎉🎉
I've been waiting for this one!
That's an exciting car!
8:32 “That should hold” but it really doesn’t 😂
A base 992 is unobtainable enough without dreaming of these kinds of clean-sheet, money no object builds 😅
Impressive stuff to geek out on though
It’s got me thinking about just building something from scratch and using an aftermarket 992 fiberglass body and just pretending it was a real 992 at some point 😂
what a beauty, if i could afford it would have bought it right away
TIL Laser Quest was started in England.
Great video 👍😎
Makes the 911 Dakar look a bit soft!
My god this is beautiful
Lamborghini and Porsche's attempts at an off-road supercar have both been absolutely incredible.
I would love to see Ferrari and mclaren have a crack at it as well. A raised, dakar worthy 720s would be very special
the 911 we need......👌....WHAT A BRILLIANT CONCEPT. great video folks 👍
Love it!!!!!!!!!!
Love that 911......
Amazing
Perfection exists
But of course it does not matter how good the vehicle is the real test is the Dakar and the driver and copilot will tell the mechanics. It’s just like any weapon which is perfectly tested during a battle!
That Porsche 🤤
Camissa set the bar very high ;-)
One of my favorite cars in the world. Though I do see some bizarre tire wear on that outer corner. I guess when youve already paid millions, who cares if you go through rubber like its nothin
i wonder what the tape covered on the seat
Oh hello Jethro!
Better than actual top gear.
I reckon this is lowkey the new top gear now
You had me at sequential 📶
man that sound dammmm
Love that car.
MANUAL CARS ONLY.
Re the manual vs automatic thing, if I could afford to have two cars with one of them being a sports car, it would always be a manual. But only being able to afford one car, and living in a city(LA) where I spend so much time in my car, and so much of that time in traffic, an automatic just makes way more sense.
Dude, the blackwing is seconds faster than the M5 CS around willow springs. I think Jethro was overwhelmed by it.
Ya I definitely thought the m cs would have won
Just yes
He got to play in the mud. I'm so freaking jealous and he did in Porsche
If I was a billionaire I would have this for my winter beater. What an opportunity to get to drive it. So cool!
Ah, if only a certain Chris Harris were available to join Jack and Jethro in this adventure!
I WANT ONE 😊
MANUAL ALL DAY EVERY DAY 🎉
Europe has way more manual gearbox options than the US, it’s just they’re on more mainstream day to day cars and not the premium performance cars tested here.
Maybe 10 years ago 😂 don’t think that’s the case anymore
@@fatguyonalittlebike3336 not sure what’s so amusing about your comment however here’s a list of manufacturers selling new cars in the UK that still offer manual gearboxes.
Abarth
Audi
BMW
Citroen
Cupra
Dacia
DS
Fiat
Ford
Honda
Hyundai
Isuzu
JEEP
Kia
Land Rover
Lotus
Mazda
MG
Mini
Nissan
Peugeot
Porsche
Renault
SEAT
Skoda
Suzuki
Ssangyong
Toyota
Vauxhall
Volkswagen
Most of those brands offer multiple product ranges with manuals.
So yes, Europe still offers more manual options than the US.
Elegante
and the Dakar was when engineers being too polite 😂
992 dakar : exist
Singer : End this man's whole career
Real rally 👑
Imagine this car at the Dakar and winning it…!
You would’ve thought this stage, they would just fabricate new 964 bodies rather than destroy all the heritage cars on the road
Bien
Mr Harris would have sent you both home!
funny how people build full rally cars in their garage and get almost 0 notice but if you go somewhere like this they'll charge millions. There have been plenty of builds that surpass this with complete custom carbon panels and even carbon tube chassis, sequential box and all the goodies. They look fully artisan and it's nowhere near millions in r&d
Car goes over a relatively smooth lakebed*
...
...
"This car is gliding over this surface with many MANY imperfections..."
You and Chris Harris need your own show
Yeah, Chris suits this form of content more than he ever did the TV show. Except maybe when he was with Matt because their bromance was heartwarming 😅 I would love to see a sort of Evo reunion, Jethro, Chris, Henry and Harry. Maybe invite Steve Sutcliffe and Jack Rix as guests of honour. Don't bring Dickie though, he is just a bad influence 😂
Actually, could you imagine a "Chris Harris and friends" series, where each episode he has a different co-presenter and they review different cars, or do a road trip or something? THAT would be ace!
@@howarddavies136 that sounds perfect.
@@howarddavies136 Yes. Have you seen Seinfeld´s "Comedians in cars getting coffee"? The same but with auto journalists would be a blast... I believe Chris gives the best content when he is in a conversation with someone (like in his podcast).
Now that TG is dead it would only make sense to get CH involved here on TG YT.
I'd like to see how this thing on the snow.
7:15 I have reason to believe he is not really sliding the car, like Ken Block (may he rest in peace). looking at the view through his window, and the well timed cut scenes.
What? He's driving a rear-engined car on a loose surface...I'd be more impressed if he managed not to drift it. Feels like you made a comment basically to claim you know something others don't, but it's a really odd thing to suggest since we know Jack can drift from plenty of previous videos and there are enough interior shots in this one where he's rotating one way and putting lock on the other way.
If this was a drift video, then yeah they're going to do some dramatic interior shots that aren't actually matched to what you see outside. In this case, they're just filming a car. If you're interested in watching drift fails, just skip to the drifting bit later! Even that bit tank went sideways once it left the gravel though.
❤❤❤❤❤
This car is my desktop wallpaper
Wanna see a big jump with this thing 😂😂
looks like an RC car with that flag on the back!
Why twin coilovers instead of coilover & bypass?
I think straight cut gears should be mentioned.
😮 oh
I would take one of these over any other Porsche, ANY OTHER
We want jeremy clarckson and james may!
Proper ride height, proper off road tyres unlike the 911 Dakar…
"Based on a 964 donor"...uhhh, what exactly is left of the original 964? The oil cap?
Fairly sure Tuthill said it's completely "scratch built"
My car engine also develops between 50 and 300bhp
I really hope they add this and the track version to forza horizon five and the new motor sport so you can get an idea of its actual handling..such a rad car and the perfect fantasy car for a video game
Interesting, totally thought this project was killed
Didn't they do this a couple of years ago??
Chris Harris should do all the driving
This guy Jethro Bovingdon is the camera guy, right?
Way better for rally than the 911 Dakar.
Came here for half an hour of Singer content. Only got ten :(
Do I see underbody paneling flapping in the wind in some of those driving shots?
That's polyurethane sheeting that's used on most stage rally cars. The front is attached to the floor, and then the rear is generally left to hang off of the control arms. It allows the suspension to glide over rocks and other debris. It may look out of place, but it's typically very effective.
@@NAMBUGMAN no shit, how bout that! That's news to me
neat
I thought this had disappeared due to legal action from porsche. Guess thats why theres 2
Bingo.
Around 11 minutes mark there is some leak from the bottom of the car, hope you didn't damage it...
I'd install solar panels to power the AC
hasnt top gear been shut down now? surpised this channel is still going
Ridiculous idea when there is cayenne and macan suv and can make another suv.
More fun the fast:
Can't Porsche just start building that so we can get our hands on it too?
Why was this uploaded in 720p?
Surprised M3 and blackwing had very close lap times givien the power advantage of the blackwing
Really? I feel like M cars have always been more track focused while V cars have always been more GT and drag focused. I would have expected the M to win honestly
@@fatguyonalittlebike3336 blackwing is based on Camaro zl1 Chassis and Camaro is a true sports car I would of expected blackwing to have same performance as zl1 but with extra 2 doors, i guess its not the same dynamics. Blackwing has almost 200hp more from the m3.
Don't get why people act so surprised at this...BMW's advertised power ratings have long been roughly what they put to the wheels. American products are usually best case scenario and at the crank.
