    Every time I see this car, I can't help but think how great it would be for my commute, about 15 minutes on dirt roads and 15 minutes on pavement. Often muddy or snowy. But then again, If I could afford this car, I probably wouldn't need to commute.

    Imo, Porsche is the only supercar maker who doesn't come off as ridiculous if they build something like this. They have the heritage and know how to pay hommage to it. Also, they're known to build the most reliable supercars so I really buy that it can be (ab)used (the vast majority of them won't, sadly) like intended.
    Watched almost the whole video with a grin on my face and the bouncing off the rev limiter in the snow at the end was just heavenly! Hats off to Porsche for giving us these masterpieces!

    Limiting the run to 2500 is a cynical move by Porsche

    • @markgeorge2200
      @markgeorge2200 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      i mean tbh cars that appeal to enthusiasts usually dont sell too well, im sure if porsche made much more of these they would still sell like crazy but at the end of the day its still a supercar that isnt gonna make as much money as porsche's cheaper options/

    • @davidkn
      @davidkn ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@markgeorge2200 of course it is more profitable, do you think a 911 costs much more to produce than a cayman, but it's a lot more expensive, 911 tax. This is a more expensive GTS, the GTS is already a profitable car, Charging 18k for a paint job, again, nearly all profit.

      I guess they wouldn't sell much more anyway. It's a very cool, but very niche car costing ~250000 Euros. There aren't many people able to buy such a car as a weekend toy or collection piece, Porsche wouldn't be able to sell 10000 cars. Being limited makes the car more interesting for potential buyers and it's probably much easier for Porsche to plan with a limited production run. 2500 cars sounds like it's enough to satify most of the people really(!) interested in buying the car while also being low enough to keep it desirable and sell all the cars.

    I hope Porsche takes these limited run 911 Dakar and see there is a market for a mass production of this model.
    Update: a lot of people are upset that Porsche is only making 2500 of these. But again it’s actually a smart move. The 911 Safari builds have been controversial amongst 911 enthusiasts. So this is a great way of Porsche testing the waters with them and the car communities as a whole. And as a whole from what I have seen has been extremely positive. So I think Porsche will make this off road style 911 a official package run.
    Also this is my ideal super car. Simply because where I live in Canada, I can go nuts on side roads and farmers roads. And play all year round.

      It's just a little frustrating how little faith they have in this. It's a 2 door mini suv. Boom. Sold. Anything with suv sell. But seriously, we just don't like practical cars. We like dumb stuff. Suvs aren't practical.... A Ford bronco isn't practical. This gives the 911 a just almost comical suv like look, that just will sell. I hope they don't give up.

    Wonder if they'll do anything similar for the 718 chassis.

    Really a shame they didn’t offer it in a manual. It would be the ultimate Porsche.

    What a wonderful car. Hopefully for the next generation of 911, a Dakar will be available without a limited run.
    I always love Jack's reviews, he is fantastic at being energetic and informative. You can see he shares the passion that brings us all here.

    Awesome car, silly money. Having fully prepped (DIY) cars for off roading, I know the costs of doing what they’ve done, given 90% of the car remains stock. Roll cage, £3-4K, roof rack £1k, 1.5” lift with adjustable ride height, £8k? Some body trim, some body protection, some under body guards, and some knobbly tyres, £10k? Bucket seats, £5k. And I’m adding uplift for Porsche pricing and that some bits are bespoke. But the rest untouched. So, £30k? That’s £100k with a new car as a base. Paint job, £8-10k? And just some Porsche Value Added Pricing for good measure. So let’s say all in, £125k. Vs £250k. That’s a monster uplift. Meanwhile, there’s a specialist in Germany who’s been banging out fully Rally Raid prepped vehicles for 30+ years, for a lot less money, arguably more honestly off-road prepped than these are, and they’d be unique to you. Like the new Defender, this will be bought (in the main) by the sorts of people who will never use it in anger and instead will merely cut around London pretending they’re Bear Grylls….shame. Should be ragged hard in the deserts of Morocco or the smugglers trails in the Pyrenees.

    I'm really sad that because this car is limited to just 2500 units. Most owners are going to keep it locked up in garages for years instead of letting it play in the dirt.

    I’ve had to replace 3 20-inch low-profile (OEM) tires on my Mercedes in the past 6 months in San Francisco. I’d love to replace it with a 911 Dakar. More comfy and potholes be damned.
