Pat is the queen, she can sing anything. She makes this look easy because she has the attitude to carry it off. When "True Love" was released in 1991 the critics were not kind. They said listening to her singing the blues was disconcerting! When a great singer does something a little different to what the critics want they are shot down in flames. Too bad because Benatar can sing any genre, anytime, anywhere. Go Pat!
My hunch is that Benatar was attempting to emulate the tremendous success of blues and rock singer and songwriter Bonnie Raitt's 1989 _Nick of Time_ album. Evidently it didn't work.
Pat and her husband love that kind of music, what they wanted was an escape from the music industry bs and to have a good time recording something they love. It worked for me.
Pat should have done a few more albums like this and developed a second set of fans. One for people who appreciate good music like this and one for her cementhead rock fans who couldn't deal with the change.
