I know. In some of the shots, my hair had purple artifacts and my garage had some pretty severe banding. S-log3 in 8 bit will never look perfect but if your frame is well lit, it does yield some pretty stunning results. I'm going to continue experimenting with my color settings and would love to keep the conversation going so please let me now your thoughts or even your own findings! Yes, there will be scenarios where I'll choose HLG 3 over S-log3 but I also do think that 1080p with the 50mbps codec isn't going to set you up for success.

COLOUR MANAGE. If using resolve -> Colour > node > ACES transform or Colour Space Transform. Select input SLOG 3, output Rec. 709 (for your monitor colour space) . Easiest fix of your life.

    Thank you Ben Martin!
    Video Keypoints
    1. DSLR Video Shooter (Caleb) suggest to use SLOG 2 in ITU-709 Matrix color mode
    2. Ben norticed that SLOG 2 in ITU-709 doesnt look good (color looks fake, too much luminance, weird tint to all color, skin tones turning magenta.
    3. These problems looks much worse when Ben tried to use the ITU-709 in SLOG 3
    4. Ben watched a video by doneitdidit TH-camr from Canada, making Slog 2 more usable by:
4.1. Pumping saturation all the way to the top (+32 max on my Sony a6400)
4.2. Color Mode: Cinema (Based on Ben, this one has the less magenta looking)
4.3. Black Gamma: Middle and -7 (Black Levels low to give little bit contrast straight from the camera so you don't have to push contrast in post that much will or could prevent footage from falling apart.
    5. This idea is only for SLOG 3 8bit, haven't tried with SLOG 2, but Ben knows that it does fix the problem
    6. For lower light situation, Ben is using HLG1 because that's the color profile handles noise the best when it comes to HLG
    7. Regarding the adjustments made (#4.1-4.3) above, the Luminance of Reds and Blues may not seems to be right, so he suggest to adjust the color depth mode. What he did to make these luminance more natural:
    7.1. Adjust Reds +3
    7.2. Adjust Blues +3
7.3. Other colors try to eyeball it maybe +1 or +2

Hey man great comment, im also cyclist and want to improve my videos.Working on how to use my zv-e10 better :)

@@candayuzgun just start shooting, compile it. Don't think too much about the settings, in fact use auto mode, use standard picture profile for the mean time because it's decent enough without needing to edit that much. And especially as a cyclist we don't always get the time we want in order to create the setup we want as we ride, so shoot footage if you can. Throughout time as you gain experience, you'll get to explore other things.

I honestly think 90% of TH-camrs who talks about cameras do no know anything about filmmaking. They just talk about gear and compare it without any thinking :D
    Happy to find you!

tried it, I agree 100%; I just lowered the blacks all the way, sat to +12, and got amazing results! I use Slog3 for run and gun while HLG3 for studio environment and just convert it to 709

In my tests Cinema mode looks trash with skin tones. Too red, turns blotchy, falls apart. S-Gamut3.Cine is by far the most natural and has the least issues with colour and skin tone.

I guess I would have liked to see a comparison. Like this footage graded the way Pike recommends compared with what you’re doing. These shots look truly amazing especially the details in the shadows. Was it as sunny as it looks?

Holy shit hes right...... I preferred cine 2 or 4 and HLG for bright conditions but this s log stuff just might work as long as it isnt slow mo footage.

You’re not crippling your camera by not using slog 3. Finding all these quirks to help slog2 is more effort than worth.

SLog3 has better highlights range, and used as Ben described reduces the color noise. After basic conversion from Slog3 to 709 you'll get better results than Slog2

    • @SystemParanoia
      @SystemParanoia หลายเดือนก่อน

On my ZVE10 Slog2 has better highlights, zebras work upto +109 instead of just +100 for slog3.
I just use HLG3 and lever it there.
HLG3 has a little bit of room to grade involve you colour transform.
Slog 2&3 just breaks when you try to do anything after the colour transformation.
