    How has the bolt on trailer hitch been working for you?? I hear mix thoughts on the hitch some people say it’s junk and breaks easy some say it’s been fine .. I only ask because I’m looking tow my 13 ft Boston whaler it’s a small fiberglass boat .. please any thoughts would be awesome!!

      Hello Chasingwaves. Love the boats. As for the hitch, I want to be clear what we are talking about. On my Rover LR3 (as is in the video) the hitch and harness are working great. I would not hesitate at all to tow a 13 ft whaler. I have been towing 20 foot sailboats and dual PWCs for 2 years with it. No issue. But here is where I want to be clear. The LR3 does not use a "bolt on" hitch. so depending on terms I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing? Are we? The hitch I use (the towing part) is a OEM Land Rover hitch receiver that you stab up inside the OEM frame mount. It is super solid. If this is what you are talking about, then you should have no worries. But if it is something different let me know. Also as a side note, I have had true bolt on class 3 hitches for my XJs and Grand Cherokee in the past and they did very well too. So in either case, as long as you pick a quality hitch (or even a moderate quality but higher capacity hitch) you are going to be fine. Enjoy the water!

      Just pass it through the opening and use a concealed route and zip tie it.

    Thanks for this video. I did notice the "fast forward" at the 5:43 mark. Taking the old one out was a BEAR. Not looking forward to putting the new one back in. Was there a trick to this? Maybe I'm just not holding my mouth right :)

      I bought mine off ebay. I dont have the link the exact one, but here is one from Atlantic British. Look it over if it is what you are seeking. www.ebay.com/itm/Atlantic-British-Trailer-Towing-Wiring-Kit-YWJ500220-for-Land-Rover-LR3/391151259328?_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Dc5cddf3046bb47228024b6e615bfa380%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dsb%26sd%3D111398883966%26itm%3D391151259328%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWeb&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

    Thank you for your video! Can you answer a question for me? I just went through the install using the harness from Atlantic British. I ran into a couple problems but the main one being that my Reverse parking sensors beep constantly when putting the vehicle in reverse and this is without a trailer attached.

      @maxpowersbigfoothunter3825 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Atlantic British has a video on doing this same install. It's not as good as this one. In it the tech mentions that in LR3's with rear parking sensors, you're going to have to find a mechanic that can reprogram the control module.

      You'll need a IID Tool Gap to modify the body control setting. Here is a good link. If you don't have an IID Tool Gap, I'd say its a worthy investment. I got mine from lucky8 with a key blank for a good price. Here's a link to a forum that has a picture of the IID Tool Gap interface: www.landroverworld.org/threads/trailer-programming-with-gap-iid-tool.28681/

    Did you have to do any kind of configuration on the car’s computer after you put on the harness?

    • @FarReachFR
      @FarReachFR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I performed no additional work after this. It tows and works just fine with no further adjustments.
      That said let me add one other thing. It is my understanding that Rover has the ability to interface with trailers on a higher level if you want and run electric trailer brakes etc. If you wanted to have those advanced features then that would require addition configuration and also a different socket. But since my trailers are just standard fare this works just perfect.

    Thanks to your video I just completed an LR4 install in 40 mins! No surprises and it all went exactly as you chronicled. I did have to gove the housing a hard tap with a rubber mallet to seat it properly so the housing could be mounted to the metal bumper/frame. Really appreciate the great instruction and video explainer.

    How did you pull off the dummy connector? I had some difficulties to do that, but did not want to force much so not to harm it.. Is there an easy way or a tool to use? Pull off mean, getting connectors jack out from dummy.. Thx.

      Go to www.lucky8llc.com, or call them ask for Erik. Also as asked before, if you need a brake controller, check the forums, there is a Ford wire ( sun $ 20.00 ) that plugs on the right kick panel on driver's side , no additional programming needed.

  • @BrianHarmonphotography
    @BrianHarmonphotography 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    how the hell did you get the plug housing through the frame hole? mine is over 1/4" larger and would not fit through no matter how I wrangle it

    • @FarReachFR
      @FarReachFR  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brian, You are referring to the plug right near the tail hitch aren't you. Yes I too remember it being a terrible fit. As in it did not fit. Poor work on the manufacturer of it. I recall that if I turned it just so, it made the clearance not so bad. BUT even then it did not fit! So I ended up shaving (cutting) some of it away. So long as the wires are undamaged and unstressed, the plastic housing is just to hold it still. You likely already figured the same, but yes. Some modification of that plug shape is needed in order to get it to fit. Good luck, and remember to take cut or sand it down slowly. You might just need to adjust one side. You can always take more material off if you need more space, but you cant very easy add material back on. Take it slow.

    • @BrianHarmonphotography
      @BrianHarmonphotography 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FarReachFR I was able to make it fit easier by trimming of 1/4" of the rear of the plastic plug before the black sealant. then it slipped right in

    Thanks for the info, did you have to install a brake controller on the dash?

    • @FarReachFR
      @FarReachFR  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not install a brake controller. None of my trailers have electric brakes so it was unnecessary in my application.
