    THANK YOU!! There are several videos showing how to replace the headlight switch on an early Mustang but you are the only one who explains you have to pull the knob out and turn it to the left and THEN press that little button to pull the knob out. I fought it for awhile and finally found your video which explained that and then was able to pull it right out. Most of the other how to videos also say you have to take the instrument panel out and remove the switch though the instrument panel opening because there isn't enough room to pull it out from the bottom. There was enough room on my 67 to drop it down and out which made the job a lot easier. I did have to loosen the parking brake so it would drop down a couple of inches but that was no big deal. Thanks again for your expert advice!

    Actually you can reach behind the dash without disconnecting the bracket. It's tight,but can be done. The real issue is that Ford did not give much of a length of wire to let the switch hang below the dash to make the change.So care must be taken not to stretch the wire loom to much.

    Thanks for making this video - very helpful. Looks as tho your new switch may be for a more later model mustang as it has the angled collar instead of the straight collar. Actually, I just pulled my '67 switch out and it looks just like the one you took out of the car in this video and my new one looks just like the one you hold up in the beginning of the video. So is it fine to just install the one with the angled collar even though it looks different than the original?

    • @gullzway210
      @gullzway210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That angled one is a 69-70 Mustang headlight switch. The 65-68 switch looks like the one he pulled out. I just replaced mine today on a 68.

    This video helped me greatly in diagnosing and fixing my dash lights. But after I put it all back together, my headlights went out after stepping on the dimmer switch a couple times (seems to be an original piece). Dagnabbit. Headlights and the switch are original reproductions, though.

    Hello doctor! 67 mustang coupe. I cant get dome light to work via door open switches or headlight switch. bulb and fuse are good. Ive heard the dome is wired to the fusible link in the headlight switch. Could that be bad? if so would it require replacing entire headlight switch? only other thing I can think of would be a ground, but not sure where to locate that. Thanks!

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jordan. There is not a fusible link in the system which would lead me to believe there is a disconnect some where.

    I have an issue on my 65 model where the headlights flash on and off. Sometimes it will come back on when I tap the knob or hit the dimmer switch. I checked to see if my after market stereo was pulling too much power and after turning off everything else it still happened. Apparently the car had the problem long before I had a radio swap. It has been halogen converted (but no leds). My guess was it had a bad switch in it but now it seems I cant get to it

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first thing to look at is the fuse.Its the smallest fuse in the box.....If the fuse is blown & the new fuse blows too then I would look at the wire for the radio light to make sure its not being used as a ground for a non stock radio that may have been installed. If so then disconnect it from the radio wires & install a new fuse.

    Quick question for the Doctor Chris where do I find the socket for brakes light I been work on big thing and look like some cut them when bought it the only thing is wire hanging 3 on each side 1965 Mustang. is there brake harness that has the socket for bulbs. thanks in advance. Steve

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve. The brake light circuit runs thru the Turn signal switch. They are one & the same. When you press on the brake pedal, the rear lights come on. If at the same time, you put a turn signal on. This cancels the brake light to that side of the car & then uses the bulb as a flashing turn signal.

    Hi I just bought a 67 mustang , the dash lights don't work but the turn signal and head lights work, if I put the high beams on the dash light is on but its very dim, do you think the switch may be the problem?

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. I would first check the fuse. If the fuse is blown & will not stay with new fuse..You may have an aftermarket radio someone wired wrong using the wire that would normally light the original radio as a ground for the new radio.

    Hey I have a 66 coupe, I have a problem with both my headlights , as I turn on the car I turn the head lights on and they seem to work for about 6 to 8 minutes, than they both shut off , sometimes I hit play with switch and than they turn on but than turn off , I don’t know what is wrong I check the out side harness that connects to the firewall , seems to be good, but I think the lights might be to hot , any idea? Because I’m ready to just give up and pay someone but I’m a huge do it yourselfer

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The headlight switch has an internal circuit breaker that is worn out. Replacing the switch should take care of the problem.

  • @Deepthoughtswithdeep

    Hi I have a 65 mustang and it came with led headlights and both of them stopped working while driving what do you think could be the reason?

    • @MustangRestorationsInc
      @MustangRestorationsInc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they come back on after being cooled down a bit then the system has a bad relay or headlight switch. Some after market LED head lamp systems require its own relay. The factory head lamp switch serves as a relay too. If there has not been a relay installed for the LED system...then the switch is at fault & may need a relay installed.

      I'm looking for a good wiring harness for a 66 mustang.
      Would you recommend American autowire for the best replacement?
