      Yes, the current state of this country, which is a complete disaster, an utterly failed experiment of which the shelf life is nearing its expiration, is thanks to Lincoln & his mismanaged government and his army of rabid savages, as well as a complete lack of planning & preparation for the eventual fallout, a careless calamity for which we STILL suffer to this very day.

    I have recently solved something that has been puzzling me about this movie, that is, the vote in the Senate that passes the Amendment. To my limited knowledge, after going through the congress, an amendment must be passed by conventions in the 'several' states. This does not happen here. The reason is that at this time, Senators are appointed by the State Governments, not elected by the people at large. As such, an amendment must only pass the House and Senate at this time.

    Even here in the UK Abraham Lincoln is known as the Greatest President in United States history with also John F Kennedy. The United States had two great men, two great leaders and two great Presidents that where murdered by Scum who should rot in hell. Even though I have a copy of the Gettysburg Address on the wall of my bedroom that is the greatest speech in human history in my opinion. Lincoln was the first greatest US President that I love and respect highly the last ever greatest President ever was John F Kennedy, he was absolutely amazing and I was born on the same date as his birthday but in 1964 here in London, England. They were truly the best Presidents that the United States ever produced. When asked why he was fighting a Southern soldier replied simply "Because you're down here". There were many reasons for the War. Slavery came into it for many reasons... one such reason was by being on the Anti-Slavery side The Union kept England out of the War. Much as England wanted to side with the Cotton producing South, they could not if the War as over slavery, England could not side with the confederacy as long as they refused to free the slaves. If England had sided with the Confederacy the War would have been brokered to an end. my opinion.

      @@gentlemanfarmer6042 which brings up the Battle of Gettysburg, a Southern Victory would have most likely ended in at least a Cease fire if not a Southern Victory. Had Lee withdrawn and found a better site to fight it may well have turned out that way... and very nearly did anyways. Absent the very badly chosen Pickett's Charge on the third day Lee might have been able to draw Meade out to where he could beat him. The all out attack on the Union's Center ended that. My opinion.

    The film fails to address the question of why a Federal Constitutional Amendment was preferable to a State-by- State prohibition on slavery which had been progressing in the North since Independence. Did'nt a former slave State -and a member of the Confederacy -Tennessee introduce such a prohibition in the later stages of the Civil War? Other slave States which were also virtually under military government like Maryland would have followed suit..and the rest of the South under Reconstruction?

    • @pwgearedturbofan2348
      @pwgearedturbofan2348 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The answer to that is because southern, conservative states were whiny bitches. Even they didn't want states on their own choosing to abolish slavery because that would take away their own power. A Federal Amendment was the only way. The souther states rejected _every_ other chance at reconciliation and compromise.

    • @Trigger730
      @Trigger730 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The answer is simple. The Constitution was the creation of our country and our government. The purpose of the Constitution was to restrict the Federal government and protect the rights of our citizens. One of those rights is protection from unlawful seizure of our person. When a state (or states) declares a person (or people) as property that person is in effect unlawfully seized. The 13th amendment simply stated that as it only allows the seizure of a person only upon conviction of a crime.

    • @bobojo37
      @bobojo37 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The concern that Lincoln had was that once admitted back to the Union after the war, the Southern states would refuse to ratify it, and the courts would upend the Emancipation Proclamation. Thus, millions of slaves would be returned to bondage.

    • @speechrighter
      @speechrighter 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The southern states would never have approved emancipation, possibly even to this day, and the United States would have been endlessly divided. As Lincoln said, quoting the Bible, a house divided cannot stand. The U.S. would never have become a great, international power, and the principles behind a democratic republic would have been mocked and likely lost, worldwide.

Heck, we're still dealing with the same disputes and questions our Founders were dealing with when they met in Philadelphia almost 250 years ago. I hope to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln we can summon the "Better Angels of our Nature" and "bind up the nations wounds" so that this nation, "of the people, by the people and for the people, shall not parish from the earth". And so that we might finally live in a land where there is truly "Liberty And Justice For ALL"!
