The Skrama is a "hukari" (ie "huggare" in swedish ~chopper/hewer or equivalent of Hanger too) originally repurposed battlefield finds like broken swords or other blade that Finnish soldiers adapted, used and took home and used as tools in peace and then back to weapons if the russians came. Jäkkari is from Swedish Jägare from German Jaeger ie ~Rangers also known before as "Sissi" from slavic word for bandit/yew bow as in " sissipuuko " units that operate behind enemy lines, gather information and blow things up and need a good knife, just say yeah-ka-ree.
Advice: Do not invade Finland.

I own close to 30 knives . About 15 are fixed blade . My jaakaripukko 140 is my “if only one “ knife . I have beat the crap out of it , taken it to the top of many mountains and it has never failed me . 80crv2 for max toughness / reliability .

James T. They’ve always responded rather quickly to my request, including several questions about product information and restocks. As for the price, I’m interested where I get the stuff for half the price, but I’ll doubt that those places have a even remotely comparable selection of good surplus!
And a higher price isn't necesarily a completely bad thing: before discovering Varusteleka, I've bought surplus at german surplus stores, where I got about one bad item(Rotten leather, big tears in fabric, severe stains) per five good ones, while all of the Items I got from Varusteleka have been in good to great condition.

I have been shopping there for e the past 3 years , never had a bad experience, on the contrary , I always had good experience so much so , I even told them how good they are on few occasions, and the price is not that expensive and quality of used surplus is almost like new . I guess it depends on the customer , because I have always had good experience in most places .
Skrama is the best knife I ever have!! Love the blade's geometry and the weight, great design for such a tool! I have the carbon steel version, feels like a very good steel compare to my most knives with 1095. Can be very very sharp, very easy to resharp and holds the edge very well! When I touched up my knives, Skrama will always turn out to be the sharpest knife every time, I mean I'd be happy already when my knives can shave hairs but I can easily sharpen Skrama to be even sharper, and I'm nothing near a knife sharpening expert. I think it's because of the blade bevel and the steel. It looks a lot more attractive in real than in the internet! Really love it. Thanks for the review!
Just watched this over the years for about the 20th time and it it still makes me smile. I own both of these Terava's and the fun factor cannot be appreciated until you have used them. They perform great at the practical level but the recreational jackassery pleasure is definitely overlooked until you have one in your hand. Please drink responsibly, until you have put the knife down. The William Tell Overture was appropriate for this but these blades have a Steve Earle vibe to them So do you now that I think about it. Hi. Nice video. I like the bit of sarcasm and you not taking the whole TH-cam knife thing not too seriously. These two knives themselves are great, and meant to be used hard. I have been using both for about two years now and they are just awesome. The Skrama is excellent for delimbing, and for batoning it is almost like a froe, great for making kindling. Like you, I use them for yard work and making firewood for the home, not for bushcrafting or just testing. The puukko is my best one for notching and such, the Skrama has mostly replaced my GB small forest axe for small chopping tasks and splitting quarter logs into kindling (I use a dedicated splitting axe for the big logs).

Ordered a Skrama last night. The stainless option is gone, 80crv2 only. Ordered mine with a brown leather sheath, a left-hand version is available. You can also order a bare tang blade, for those who wish to make their own scales. They also have an 8"/200mm version that does not have the extended grip.

Great review and funny. These are hard working knives or as I call them rough work camp knives, like batoning, chopping, digging in wood, etc. so I prefer them in carbon. I always bring a stainless small camp knife for food prep.
Looking at the website they stopped production of the stainless versions all together.
When I go into a jungle area I would bring the more lightweight 12 inch blade Tramontina latin machete but for the woodland the Skrama looks like a very good option when you don't want to bring an ax.
An ax is good for splitting logs so I do use them when remaining in a base camp but for travel I prefer the big knife.
I was laughing so hard when you went fast speed and doing what we all do, miss the wood but never admit it. Funny stuff. Good video

Nope. I can't remember the last time I had blisters. These handles are super comfortable... the douk douks handle was probably the worst in some time- as far as owie-ness goes.
Hi, please help me with these two question:
1. I live in tropical region and I need a machete. Should I go with stainless steel?
2. What's the best stainless steel machete can you recommend? (Plenty of carbon steel ones, so not gonna ask about that)

There are very few options of stainless machetes. The easy answer is oil and wipe down your non stainless machete. Cheap carbon steels are overall more durable than cheap stainless that would have to be found in a machete. I am only aware of a few options... not saying that there aren't more but here are a few.
1. The Skrama. It really isn't a machete, but it's a decent chopper.
2. The Cudeman SVK II. Don't know much about that stainless steel, but it claims to be stainless.
3. Kizlyar Supreme Bushmate is made from 420HC I belive which is a stainless.
4. Condor Tool and Knife 18" Camo Hog Sticker.
These should give you a decent place to start. There's just not a ton of well reviewed stainless machetes out there. You could always get a coated blade, but those wear if you use them a lot against woodier objects

I really want to go for carbon steel, and I already have a machete in mind for that, which is CRKT Chanceinhell (great machete for the money). However, the place I live in (Indonesia) is very very very humid, the carbon steel blade probably would rust even laying there unused :D
And what I'm looking for is a machete for clearing bush/vegetation, not a chopper. So it should be a bit light with blade length between 12"-14" (because I'm a small guy).

I gotta say, if all videos had me laughing immediately like yours, I'd have a much harder time subbing to channels. Easy choice.
I love my skrama chopper, I even batoned a small log to the point where I thought I bent the thing. Super upset at myself. Got it home and laid it on a desk, was still straight. It's those bevels that threw me off. Either way, the thing is deadly tough and it's on my outdoors belt permanently now. Proud to own it.

in reality its useful. i was living in an apartment on a street of apartments. a storm blew threw and a huge limb blocked our street. no one had done a thing since the storm hit at 3 till i got home from work. so i grab my unnecessary cold steel machete and start hacking by myself. not 3 minutes and neighbors started helping with whatever, including a small saws all so sometimes big dumb blades save the day
Scandi chopper. I love this concept unlike Spyderco's MAP pricing. That handle looks like the Spyderco Zoomer.
So where are the blue lines? I do kind of miss them. They were soothing and comforting. Now I have to find a new safe place.

Bro, I had gotten a Jaakaripuukko in the 140mm blade length and stainless steel about 4 months ago. As mentioned in a previous comment it came in less than a week. At the beginning of December, I ordered the same knife in the 110 mm blade length. This time the order took almost six weeks to arrive. The latest batch of these knives are polished. It makes for a more attractive knife but seriously impairs its ability to throw Sparks from a ferrous rod. Just when I thought I had run across a company that had it's shit together!! Why would anyone take a knife that is designed and built to be used and abused and put a polish on the blade? Especially when it adversely affects it's usability!!
Probably should get some work done . But Lynn damnit I just cant turn away!!

It’s a good chopper- great for only about $100. Vakra is nice, but you can have a lot of fun with this one.

The carbon steel knife (puukko) is not laminated. Just a quick surface tempering to limit the surface hardness and stop cracks. Then they grind down to the harder inner steel for the edge. A nice low tech differential hardness. Well done, but simple.
