I think Zelda’s voice actress has really improved her performance since BOTW. She did a great job sounding creepy in the reveal scene. I just wish that this reveal wasn’t so obvious (at least to me) from the very first time we see her early in the game. I did the memories before getting here, but I was 100% convinced that this Zelda wasn’t real even before finishing them.
yeah. it's a bit to obvious. the one thing i wasn't expecting though was that the zelda in the blood moon cutscene was the fake zelda. after completing this quest when a blood moon appears, it's complete silence. she's not there anymore

Agreed. I was totally caught off guard by the 4 sages' appearance too, I thought Link was just going to deflect it himself but what we got was 10 times better

@@matthewmuir8884 i mean we all knew so while playing and grinding all side quests (I have not even done this boss yet but did the majority of side quests and even found the 5th sage by chance haha) I always chuckle when all the confused NPCs want me to chase down Zelda. I wish Link would just tell them everything he found out while doing the side quests, finishing all geoglyphs and finding out about Zelda and the white dragon etc. because obviously he learns very early that it's fake Zelda but he just keeps his mouth shut and let them all be worried. 😂😂😂
I was so immersed when playing this that I was PHYSICALLY reacting to everything that was happening. When the Sages popped up and King Sidon shouted "Link! We are here!" I nearly cried from the sheer morale boost I got. The Sages! My Allies! My Friends! Come to take on this ancient evil with me for the sake of Hyrule! Then when Ganondorf showed us a vision of what was to come if he returned to full strength, I was taken aback! How could anyone stop THIS! I snapped out of the vision with a gasp the same as the characters in the game! 10/10 one of the BEST cutscenes I have ever seen!
Yeah, in botw the champions just showed up to give us abilities and then never appear again anywhere (except for champion's ballad). But here they actually appear in person to fight for you, I love this so much

She fooled a lot of people actually. Look no further that the Zonai Survery Team, Yunobo,and to an extent King Zora. But Link and Zelda's own horse knew something was wrong. The horse even bolted from the stable to escape the fake zelda.
He couldn't even fool everyone in-universe. He couldn't fool Sonia, but he managed to distract her long enough to shatter her spine and take her pretty rock. So... I mean, it did work at least once.
I dedicated myself to finding all of the memories right away so without spoilers I saw what happened and whenever "Zelda" showed up I was just kinda like "Oh hi Ganondork what idiocy have you planned for today?"

The part where the Sages come in to actually kick butt with you is everything I wanted since BoTW since fighting with the "new Champions" to get on the Divine Beasts, I always wanted to beat back Calamity Ganon with them, but since they had obligations to their groups, they couldn't come and it felt so lonely to have to take him on on our own. In ToTK though, they not only fight alongside us, they actually plan what to do about Ganondorf once they save us against Phantom Ganon, it's awesome to not feel so alone in this game!

because calamity ganon IS ganondorf; its a disfigured form that he was able to cobble together with his weakned malice while still imprisoned below the castle. he himself took away everything that link and the rest of hyrule held dear to, and brought it back for a split second only to take it all away again not even minutes after

I think the calamity was Ganondorf’s attempt at trying to take over Hyrule while sealed. I haven't seen a single person on youtube go into this fight with the Master Sword. I did, knowing it didn't make the loud noise from BOTW when fighting gloomy/Malice enemies but i was hyped as FUCK that it made the noise here.

One of the very rare occasions where this trope actually fits well with what was happening. It seems like the reason why people hate this trope is because it's almost always put in at the wrong times, like I hate it too, but man, it really fit here.

I went to this boss night, and saved before I initiated the mission bc I wasn't sure i wanted to keep going. But oh my god, that was the most intense build up, and an amazing fight. The part where the gloom takes over the sages avatars scared the shit out of me

I feel like having a Phantom Ganon fight instead of a Puppet Zelda fight was a missed opportunity. P.G is cool and all, but you have an opportunity to fight him every time a Gloom Spawn shows up. But Puppet Zelda hasn’t been a thing ever since Twilight Princess, and it would have been really cool to see what they could’ve done with it in TOTK

True I had to fight Phantom Ganon to get the Master Sword again and it took forever and the game is like "Hey guess what you have to fight him again." 😔 Why. Why would they do that.

Zelda’s actress !!! Is all I have to say. You can tell she’s not real Zelda with the way she speaks. Yes it’s her voice but it’s not her tone and it’s SOOOO well done! This game is nothing short of a masterpiece ! However I am not equipped enough to do this fight yet 🤣
For anyone else struggling (like me) I haven’t beaten the boss yet but I’ve slowly developed a technique, if you have low hearts (again like me) you can simply shoot ONE of the phantoms with a arrow so it targets you while the sages distract the other ones, and like I said if you’re low on hearts like me, use a strong weapon and attack with ONLY flurry rushes
I love how the boss fight starts. After chasing hallucinations for ages you finally come into contact with the “real” Zelda. But as she keeps talking you can tell something is wrong, and then ganondorf reveals himself. GOD this introduction slaps
I beat him in 10 seconds and he didn't land a single hit on me here's how: you need the following items: 2 lynel bows, phantom armour or any armour that increases attack, a lot of bomb flowers & timed bomb zonai devices, a few shiekds with rockets attached to them and a lot of stamina (I had max stamina, if you don't have enough bring stamina restoring food) Here's what you do: 1: use your rocket shield to go high up in the air 2: basically use your lynel bow to slow down time and shoot the ganons with bomb/timed bomb arrows - lynel bows shoot 3 arrows instead of one abd this applies to fused arrows - this means you hit phantom ganons with X 3 bombs instead of just one per shot. Use the bomb flowers to his individual ganons or use the zonai timed bombs to civer the entire stage with bombs that all go off simultaneously in one go. Rinse and repat until you beat all phantom ganons. In total I think it took me only 2 launches in the air to get through both of his phases and since you are in the air and in constant bullet time 1: you don't touch the gloomed floor and 2: phantom ganons have no time to actually attack you before they die. Hope this helps with anyone who might be struggling with this bossfight!
When I got to this point in the game, I had already found Mineru and done the spirit temple before before ever heading to Gerudo. I stumbled upon the quest because exploring the skies was so fun. It was hilarious in this cutscene, because, (despite having fought alone Mineru in battle) the sages still counted each other, came up short, and after Purah goes "there must be a fifth sage" Link does the explain gestures and everyone is stunned an impressed. I was so chuffed. I dont recommend doing the spirit temple because i died 100 times early but that was delightful 🙂
I found this fight very easy. Thought the Miasma does more damage. Hope the final fight will epic as f*ck! Then the game will be close to ocarina of time. Pls ni spoilers to the final fight!!!
i think they made it a little too obvious that the zelda appearing wasn’t the real one even from the very first time we see her and then as the story progresses it just becomes more and more obvious
This fight was so much fun. There was a moment for me during the second phase when the gloom spread and the Sages were being neutralized so I had like 4 phantoms backing me into a corner. I had to bring out the master sword and hack my way out of there lmao
5:19 Don't know if anyone know this, but Phantom Ganon will do this not just here in Hyrule Castle but in the overworld as well, I've encountered a Phantom Ganon before in the overworld and it was doing this exact thing where it spread spread it's Gloom around it causing the avatars to be paralyzed.
I don't like using the spirits too often to cheese challenging battles but yeah when I saw there were five of them I was like yeah fuck that two can play at this game 😂
I just got through this fight a couple of hours ago. Ive been refusing to upgrade my armor and use the sage abilities. Went in with 30 hearts and no master sword... he rocked me for a hot minute. Barely got out of there in one piece.
I really thought this was going to be part of the ending sequences of bosses. Just beat these last night and was surprised it wasn't just the first phase. Cutscenes were amazing!
I got hit a fair amount of times with only a small handful of hearts because flurry rushing Phantom Ganon feels surprisingly hard to pull of compared to most enemies in the game (even Lynels feel like they are much more lenient), but this wasnt all that painful as long as you constantly observe at what all the other phantom ganons are doing
Well, you rarely get to fight phantom ganon (which means less time to adapt) and the time between him preparing his attack and actually swinging his weapon is longer than most enemies, most probably to throw you off
I really like this boss fight a lot. By this point in the game, you've probably faced Phantom Ganon a few times, so you're much more equipped and prepared to handle him. And having the sage doppelgangers makes for an awesome "5 on 5" dynamic.
Phantom ganon's color scheme and voice reminds me of the Nazgul/Ringwraiths from lord of the rings, specifically their appearance in Hobbit: battle of five armies. And that makes me like him even more
Same for me. I geared up so well every hit was only quarter a heart 😅😅😅 I fought with the casual Hyrule set with 52 defense. I think less would also be fine. Armour and legs max skilled and cape 3 times. I was really scared of him be was so glad when he only deducted a quarter of heart at the first strike. It went downhill for him pretty fast.
I had this idea for wild encounters with Phantom Ganon. If you charge the hands head-on, they grab and choke you as an attack. If you try to run away, one grabs your neck from behind, and the other four stretch out your limbs. You need to break free, but it's 5x harder now. AND! if you don't break out in time, you get one shot killed by an arrow. If you look around, you can see Phantom Ganon spawn a little bit from the combat zone and draw his bow, but no health bar. Breaking out makes him retreat until the hands are gone. That or he walks up and executes you.
Upgraded armour seems to help alot. I made the mistake of not really upgrading stuff till mid/late game… legit silver enemies would one shot me most of the time. Upgraded my fierce deity set before I went to the final boss and it helped so much (only upgraded it once though so it does make a difference even after 1 upgrade).
There’s a hidden one-shot protection mechanic. If your hearts are full, then for most enemy types, no matter how hard they hit you they can’t kill you in one hit, it’ll always bring you down to a 1/4 heart.

I laughed so hard when Ganon ridicules you when he reveals that it was Phantom Zelda, despite it being more obvious than McDonnell Miller being Liquid Snake.

It's a tough fight, but not impossible. Stay in the middle of the room and let you guardians distract/assist as needed. Stick and move. Try to pull off a flurry. Tap the dash button and get out of the way if necessary. Part 2, do the same, but keep an eye out for the one with gloom and hit him with a bomb flower arrow. Eat meals as necessary and eventually you'll win.

For the second phase, you can reduce the spreading Gloom by attacking the phantom creating it. Arrows work well.

I did the fight wearing the Depths gear and it also helps because you'll get three bonus hearts before it impacts your own heart containers.

I agree. I felt that their role in BotW was very limited even tho they helped Link significantly and i started to like them at that point

Maybe phantom/ganondorf gathered some info and knew that Link was a knight.

I know everyone hates the whole "my friends are my power" trope, but GODDAMN is it amazing here.
One of the very rare occasions where this trope actually fits well with what was happening.
It seems like the reason why people hate this trope is because it's almost always put in at the wrong times, like I hate it too, but man, it really fit here.

He lost his memories that cause his personality changes, his friends (except Revali Ig) and family is dead or old, and he has to deal with Blight Ganons and Calamity by himself. Here, he finally gets help with the Sages and feels like he’s not alone.

I went to this boss night, and saved before I initiated the mission bc I wasn't sure i wanted to keep going. But oh my god, that was the most intense build up, and an amazing fight. The part where the gloom takes over the sages avatars scared the shit out of me

If your about to lose all of your hearts, cook up a lot of food by adding Sundelion in the recipe so you can get back your drained Hearts.
Go upgrade your armour from the great fairies if your taking a lot of damage (or cook some food). Seen a lot of comments about how not to take a lot of damage

I feel like having a Phantom Ganon fight instead of a Puppet Zelda fight was a missed opportunity. P.G is cool and all, but you have an opportunity to fight him every time a Gloom Spawn shows up. But Puppet Zelda hasn’t been a thing ever since Twilight Princess, and it would have been really cool to see what they could’ve done with it in TOTK

Zelda’s actress !!! Is all I have to say. You can tell she’s not real Zelda with the way she speaks. Yes it’s her voice but it’s not her tone and it’s SOOOO well done! This game is nothing short of a masterpiece !

It’s good that there are dungeons and temples that take inspiration from traditional Zelda games
For anyone else struggling (like me) I haven’t beaten the boss yet but I’ve slowly developed a technique, if you have low hearts (again like me) you can simply shoot ONE of the phantoms with a arrow so it targets you while the sages distract the other ones, and like I said if you’re low on hearts like me, use a strong weapon and attack with ONLY flurry rushes
This fight is really cool, it really feels like a team battle with your avatars by your side
The voice actress for Zelda really gave me chills holy shit
I love how the boss fight starts. After chasing hallucinations for ages you finally come into contact with the “real” Zelda. But as she keeps talking you can tell something is wrong, and then ganondorf reveals himself. GOD this introduction slaps

The fight gets easy when you realize that attacking the original phantom Ganon keeps the gloom from spreading
tbh i wish you could replay this fight too, it was so fun (and the battleground being a restored Hyrule sanctum was so cool)
I beat him in 10 seconds and he didn't land a single hit on me here's how: you need the following items: 2 lynel bows, phantom armour or any armour that increases attack, a lot of bomb flowers & timed bomb zonai devices, a few shiekds with rockets attached to them and a lot of stamina (I had max stamina, if you don't have enough bring stamina restoring food)
Here's what you do:
1: use your rocket shield to go high up in the air
2: basically use your lynel bow to slow down time and shoot the ganons with bomb/timed bomb arrows - lynel bows shoot 3 arrows instead of one abd this applies to fused arrows - this means you hit phantom ganons with X 3 bombs instead of just one per shot. Use the bomb flowers to his individual ganons or use the zonai timed bombs to civer the entire stage with bombs that all go off simultaneously in one go. Rinse and repat until you beat all phantom ganons.
In total I think it took me only 2 launches in the air to get through both of his phases and since you are in the air and in constant bullet time 1: you don't touch the gloomed floor and 2: phantom ganons have no time to actually attack you before they die.
Hope this helps with anyone who might be struggling with this bossfight!
This fight was so damn fun, I think apart of the reason was it reminded me of “the floor is lava” as a kid.

It would have been fascinating if Hyrule castle was fully restored following phantom Ganons defeat. How the sanctum was temporarily.
When I got to this point in the game, I had already found Mineru and done the spirit temple before before ever heading to Gerudo. I stumbled upon the quest because exploring the skies was so fun. It was hilarious in this cutscene, because, (despite having fought alone Mineru in battle) the sages still counted each other, came up short, and after Purah goes "there must be a fifth sage" Link does the explain gestures and everyone is stunned an impressed. I was so chuffed. I dont recommend doing the spirit temple because i died 100 times early but that was delightful 🙂

i think they made it a little too obvious that the zelda appearing wasn’t the real one even from the very first time we see her and then as the story progresses it just becomes more and more obvious

This fight was so much fun. There was a moment for me during the second phase when the gloom spread and the Sages were being neutralized so I had like 4 phantoms backing me into a corner.
I had to bring out the master sword and hack my way out of there lmao

5:19 Don't know if anyone know this, but Phantom Ganon will do this not just here in Hyrule Castle but in the overworld as well, I've encountered a Phantom Ganon before in the overworld and it was doing this exact thing where it spread spread it's Gloom around it causing the avatars to be paralyzed.
The cause of depression is when you find out ur gf is a fu*king phantom ganon lol

I just got through this fight a couple of hours ago. Ive been refusing to upgrade my armor and use the sage abilities. Went in with 30 hearts and no master sword... he rocked me for a hot minute. Barely got out of there in one piece.

I got hit a fair amount of times with only a small handful of hearts because flurry rushing Phantom Ganon feels surprisingly hard to pull of compared to most enemies in the game (even Lynels feel like they are much more lenient), but this wasnt all that painful as long as you constantly observe at what all the other phantom ganons are doing
Well, you rarely get to fight phantom ganon (which means less time to adapt) and the time between him preparing his attack and actually swinging his weapon is longer than most enemies, most probably to throw you off
Wish I could do this fight over and over again it was one of my favorites
I really like this boss fight a lot. By this point in the game, you've probably faced Phantom Ganon a few times, so you're much more equipped and prepared to handle him. And having the sage doppelgangers makes for an awesome "5 on 5" dynamic.

Phantom ganon's color scheme and voice reminds me of the Nazgul/Ringwraiths from lord of the rings, specifically their appearance in Hobbit: battle of five armies. And that makes me like him even more

Same for me. I geared up so well every hit was only quarter a heart 😅😅😅 I fought with the casual Hyrule set with 52 defense. I think less would also be fine. Armour and legs max skilled and cape 3 times. I was really scared of him be was so glad when he only deducted a quarter of heart at the first strike. It went downhill for him pretty fast.
He DID take damage but not too much impressively.

I knew this Zelda was an imposter, but I didn't expect "her" to be Phantom Ganon!
I had this idea for wild encounters with Phantom Ganon.
If you charge the hands head-on, they grab and choke you as an attack.
If you try to run away, one grabs your neck from behind, and the other four stretch out your limbs.
You need to break free, but it's 5x harder now.
AND! if you don't break out in time, you get one shot killed by an arrow.
If you look around, you can see Phantom Ganon spawn a little bit from the combat zone and draw his bow, but no health bar.
Breaking out makes him retreat until the hands are gone.
That or he walks up and executes you.
Sheesh bro you need to start providing ideas for horror games if your typing this fire idea💀

How do they only damage you 1/4 of a heart. My 2nd attempt at beating it and 6 of my hearts are gone with every hit they make
Upgraded armor
Upgraded armour seems to help alot. I made the mistake of not really upgrading stuff till mid/late game… legit silver enemies would one shot me most of the time. Upgraded my fierce deity set before I went to the final boss and it helped so much (only upgraded it once though so it does make a difference even after 1 upgrade).
There’s a hidden one-shot protection mechanic. If your hearts are full, then for most enemy types, no matter how hard they hit you they can’t kill you in one hit, it’ll always bring you down to a 1/4 heart.

It's a bit sad when I was more convinced that the Zelda on the Great Plateau was real than the Demon King's puppet
It's a tough fight, but not impossible. Stay in the middle of the room and let you guardians distract/assist as needed. Stick and move. Try to pull off a flurry. Tap the dash button and get out of the way if necessary. Part 2, do the same, but keep an eye out for the one with gloom and hit him with a bomb flower arrow. Eat meals as necessary and eventually you'll win.
So all that struggleI had was because I FORGOT TO SUMMON THOSE SPIRITS
