- I managed to install Android 13 onto the Rabbit R1 and it made the device a lot more useful! Letting me download apps, send messages, and a lot more. Here's how I did it.

they accidentally make a great dumbphone
A great desk phone 📱
would use it for this purpose
Should rebrand this to be a specialized companion device, a dumbphone, an iPod, a pager.
if calling works properly.
yeah lmao
This would sell more than the original rabbit.
Why 🤔
very accurate! if only it wasn't so overpriced for gods sake why is this tiny nugget $200
Not really cause the battery life sucks
yes, its called smartphone
Just get a phone
The fact that you can now use the touchscreen 100% of the time is huge!
Totally agree!
I just downloaded the latest update (on Jun 09, 2024) and still do not have touchscreen control, with the exception of keyboard entry.
@@howtomen Your calling issue may be related to be connected to WiFi and it trying to use WiFi calling. It may be bugged 👍🙏
They should invent a device based on that touch control concept!
@@vijaynadkarni you should jailbreak yours and put LineageOS like these people did. LineageOS is literally 1000% better Android distro than rabbit r1 OS.
“Bro, what is the weather?”
(Inaudible) “I-don’t-care”
That behavior it had is such that modern obnoxious web/app design philosophy to just ignore errors and act like the user never interacted. Give no means to now whether something wrong happened or the user did something wrong or anything.
sounds so human😂
i thought it was going to give a robotic answer like, the weather is the outside temperature or climate of an outdoor or indoor environment. The correct way to ask this question would be something like this. What's the current weather outside today?
Small phones are becoming rare. This thing could be a real alternative
makes me think of all the small phones unihertz makes
The main reason why small phones were phased out is that our needs changed we do more with them
@@voinea12 More Tick Tocks.
@@T_TanksTinkers1066 Those are pretty nice. I have one as a stopgap MP3 player.
Use Samaung Galaxy Flip
Rabbit accidentally created the best budget mini Android phone!
Far from the best even then lol
Budget? I can get a way more better phone with that price
Not really. Battery life sucks, and calls (when they work) go through the back speaker. If a tiny phone is a must, then buy a Unihertz.
you can get a galaxy s21 for the same price...
Keyword: mini
Obviously you can get better with the same price but that screen size and how useful it can be with the maps, voice recording etc in a tiny device like that while being fully functional? Yeah that thing is pretty neat.
This is the year 2005. Rabbit R1 just came out!!!!! What a crazy year to live in! Can't wait for the phones to catch up.
Pebble could never!
Bro installed Clash Of Clans on the poor thing💀
Should have tried COD warzone 💀
@@navroopsingh8902 Genshin Impact 💀
@@The_Only_Mango bro why do you want to murder that 💀
@@aravindmuthu5748Honkai Star Rail would be less intensive lol
Fortnite on max settings (mobile) would absolutely annihilate that thing💀
Apparently the LAM doesn't exist and it's just chatgpt and playwright, so this is so much more useful lol
People are expecting a lot from a company who's founder was involved into crypto scam.
Maybe the LAM were the friends we made?
Really? Interesting if so.
the chatgpt4o app will probably be 12 times better than rabbit r1 and this will be able to run it along with every other android phone
if you dont pay for chatgpt, gpt 4o will be available for like 5 mins a day. it barely works not even 30 mins to say the least.
Freed the rabbit 😂😂
Ironically the most useful R1
It’s crazy that it has 128 GB for what it’s designed to do
Install Android on Rabbit R1 and then install the Rabbit R1 app there..😂
Smart
@@kvCrag is like Install Android on Switch and running switch emulator
@@Bugsy1928 Other way around. Rabbit runs on Android "emulator", so installing it as an app would technically restore the device to it's full functionality.
In theory, you'd restore the original functionality of the device, but with the ability to switch away ti the main OS any time. If someone were ti figure out how to do that, it becomes more enticing to do. You've essentially upgraded the device at that point rather than replacing it with something else
it is now 10000% better than the original firmware and can still run in R1 mode
this is wat the spotify car thing should have been
Yes
Apparently it can't be done, because it's just too much of a potato to run modern android. 512mb of ram, that is.
@@moldytexascan it run android lollipop though, is my question
@@moldytexas i saw a video some modding carthing already. i think its name spotify car thing for non premium
Definitely not
NIagara Launcher would probably look really neat on the rabbit.
it does, teehee
I use Niagara launcher btw, thx for mentioning it 😊
I have been rocking that Launcher for half a year by now, perfect for my big hands 😂 just swipe up and down
@@Sandal1_2 literally same lol, my huge hands have thanked me
the best launcher ever fr fr fr
considering the lock button is the power button, you can probably enable the hold power to call assistant feature and map that to google gemini or something - and THAT would be the way Rabbit was intended to be used
Now all that's left is to add some sensors that detect radioactivity, adapt it to a bracelet, and boom, your own Pip-Boy...
😎😎😎
i had forgotten how exciting flashing custom roms was
If I can get one of these for cheap I'm definitely turning it into an mp3 player. It feels perfectly designed for that purpose.
same
This looks more complete and useful than the original rabbit os
Oh you mean “original rabbit app”
"original rabbit apk" it already ran android from the start and its pretty obvious, android is easy to use and to create apps for
That's actually nice. It allows people to keep somehow using the device even if the company goes insolvent or whatever and stops its servers.
that is definitely going to happen so people better get ready. maybe an easy to install image could be made for this device so it can be switched over by non-techy people
it unironically makes a good compact smartphone for simple tasks like callinng texting, banking apps etc.
“banking apps”
If they are not so restrictive about your bootloader status. Mine blocks me with my bootloader unlocked (no root)
@@rockybouldr Then root the device, usually you can trick banking apps into thinking that your bootloader isn't unlocked using root
@@rockybouldrmine actually doesn't lol. I'm running crdroid 9 on xiaomi redmi note 7 and I've had no compatibility issues whatsoever so far
Lol, it's like the back of a samsung z flip now. But you pay less and just the back.
Can we install R1 to our android instead? 😂
Yes, it's just an app
@@youravghuman5231But how
Yes
@@trinhnguyenluong4485do your own research lol, but I guarantee you it's possible, but not all android devices are supported so you have to check on your own.
I mean, where's the app??!
I love the Style of the Video! Please more!
This would make a very good device for a child, not making them addicted to tiktoks since the screen is too small and make it only for calls and texts
Except its $200 and you can just block TikTok with parentsl comtrols
Great idea 💡💯
Looking forward to make this happen 😁
But it'd be too impractical to serve it's purpose as the cost is too high for the purpose that we're trying to achieve.
Children should be down a mine extracting cobalt, not playing on smart devices.
Welcome back spotify car thing
This just made the device all that much better! Basically way better than what it was supposed to do!
I can see this being a great productivity device instead of having your phone with distractions you can have a dedicated device to view calendars, send emails and watch videos when necessary, if phone calls are able to make then you could make calls to co workers. If this was adopted by companies it would be great.
They did not create lam they just rebranded open ai function calling
Informative video. Loved it!!! 👍♥️
This is super cool, I like rooting devices that aren't usually made for this type of stuff.
Great information on this device. Subscribed.
if it had a 4.5" or 5" screen, I might use it as a daily device 🤣
In theory it sounds like a nice idea but my Pixel 8 Pro is a Ferrari compared to this, do I really wanna downgrade from a Ferrari to a Pinto? Not any day of the week.
Unfortunately it didn't already exist when Linus needed a new Phone! (Probably could have been better that the LG Wing)
It's kinda like z flip 5 and other flip phones now with a cover screen
@@ecor150 But lighter and cheaper, could be quite compelling
You could get 5” devices for very cheap. If R1 is any bigger, it will be a proper smartphone size which open up for more choice then.
I recommend that if you find it difficult to move around the interface, reduce the screen size and font. This way everything will look more complete. Excellent video, I loved it.❤
And make things harder to read too!
Crazy that it comes with 128gb of storage! That's double the storage of a brand new base level iPad Mini.
lmao why does it need all that? it's like they were planning to run the LAM locally or something but then just couldn't get it to work. either that or just space for a whole bunch of telemetry
I can really see this being useful when you are out traveling and just needed maps or some form of navigation for you without pulling out your phone on places you are not familiar with. Now I want one
I think it will be a great use as secondary phone and also for kids in school as it would be way less distracting
You made my day, this is awesome. I was waiting to figure out how to revert back to rabbit v1 software before the update and try the fn+f4 trick.
Lol why did it ever need 128gb of storage
Mine is coming soon. After a few weeks if I'm not digging it I'm glad i will be able to do something fun with it. Thanks 🙏
This is dope.
Thank you for doing this. I will be doing it when I get an R1 in the future
Don't
@@Neukend ..buy an R1
@@SmitePlayz_ why would i buy a castrated phone if i have a normal one already?
This seems like a phone I would actually use. All of the functionality and none of the distraction.
You should be able to do phone calls on it with google voice or a similar wifi calling app right?
Very useful! Thank you! 😎🤖
This is, surprisingly good for retro hand-held
You are a legend man!!! 😮🎉
thank you ! hey wich version of android 13 do you used ? pixel 7 ?
Fresh new video style!
can you do this all through the powershell or do you need chocolatey?
If it's capable of running full android, how did they fail? I thought the hardware was crap but it seems it's the team behind it
they failed by trying to distinguish it from a smartphone - disabled all the stuff that has taken various companies 15 or so years to carefully refine and replaced it with an interface that sucks - just for the sake of appearing different
I actually wanted one of these for this alone, it looks fun 😂
If the r1 worked fast and gave basic features then I would surely replace it with my phone
awesome! ✨
Installed android on mine. How did you get the camera to work?
Im going to do this when I get the rabbit, but I want to see if its possible to automate the scroll wheel and button to open the chatgpt app and goto a main conversation.
Finally it is usable now 😂
Hello! I've managed to succeed with the installation. The calling functionality is working fine for me. The camera is not though :(. Did you do anything post-install?
How to install? On linux or windows?
Im about 10 seconds in and this is an underrated video 💪🏾
This guy have been making videos for a long time, I remember watching these when I was 14, now im 22 lol.
It's crazy my guy still on 755k sub...GET HIM TO 1 MILLION!
Has anyone tested to see how long the battery lasts?
What does this do to battery life?
Can you use it as a wifi hot spot since you can get it on mobile data service?
small phones need a comeback
Well now I want one!
Swapping in a better battery would make this an awesome device
I managed to install Android 13 on R1, but the camera doesn't work appropriately, how to fix?
This makes me want it. $200 is a fair price if this is what I would get instead of what it was.
Get a Unihertz Jelly 2 then.
Bro, get any chinese phone for that price instead
A $100 phone can do more though
so I have tried with both Ubuntu and powershell, the script seems to run, it has me plugin and unplug, the R1 does the hamsters wheel, makes it all the way to waiting for fastboot, then nothing happens. WHAT AM I MISSING? PLEASE HELP!
I have meticulously, looked at this video, and I still unable to get the “run as administrator” for the command prompt initialization unrestricted! I need help
wonder if you can install chatGPT on it and if it actually works better than stock R1
Yes it can run ChatGPT. It can run any app on Android
Not really, I usually get an error to use it@@howtomen
Another data point in the question of whether phone makers should make phones in more form factors. Having something that small with full Android is cool. And the rotating camera could allow you to put in a much bigger/nicer sensor than will fit in an ultra-thin flagship.
Now that looks useful
I'd look into remapping that scroll wheel to be "scroll up or down" it would be a great dumbphone/ notification checker
Oh, so an oversized smart watch😂
Ho iyal oru killadi thanne👍
Man I am struggling to get android installed on the device. I have been trying for over 10 hours now. I am thinking it might be an issue with the usb drivers since I cant get the device to show up in device manager. I can find the device in powershell. The instructions on git dont really go into great detail, i think thats been a bit of the problem. Anyone have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Bangers video on the Friday...
i was waiting for this hahaha
Did you run a benchmark just to see where it sits roughly?
How is the battery with andoid on it?
But can you go back to rabbit afterwards?
installed and stoked! did you have issues with accessing the sub menus in settings? Can't enable adb in dev won't let me scroll cause the screen is to small lol. How did you fix the play store non certified device?
How did you install? Linux or windows?
So it has become alternative of unihertz jelly 2 with no fingerprint sensor
No gyro scope, no mic jack, no phone sim, and worse battery/processory power
Honestly a great phone to give to my nephews to play sometimes xD
Did you get any error pop-ups regarding Google device certification?
Ngl...this looks so cool with android
Everything looks soo functional and practical..
If you like extremely small screen with no portrait form
I feel like this could work great as a smart watch or companion device for a main smartphone
We need a full length all steps included video, please! I'm not too good with tech and want to do this to my r1! Thank you
How well do headphones work with it? Both wired and wireless? Could you use it as a music player?
Bluetooth doesn't work on this version, have tried and I think it works on lineageOS
awesome info. Would love to try it with my r1. Main question is... is there a way to get full backup of original firmware and return to rabbit OS after this rooting?
I also want to know if there is a way back to the original firmware in case rabbit someday makes it as functional as the product it presented.
@@heinerb.3549I have an r1.. got it last week.. it is AWFUL. it does next to nothing and the 1 or 2 things it does... It does slower and more awkward than just using your phone ...
Rabbit will NEVER make it right because their true intent is to sell their proprietary software to a big tech co.
Google, apple and meta ARE ALL set to release their versions of a fully featured AI assistant within the next year...
Rabbit will NEVER COMPETE .
SO I say... Let's flash that bitch with Android and have a cool looking retro phone/handheld emulator
Does the scroll wheel and camera still work
Can you do a backup of the device before installing android and later revert to the original state?
What about switching with bigger battery? for draining issues!
To be honest, it kinda looks good as a specialised device, turning this into an iPod or something would be cool since the Android experience doesn't use very usable here given how small everything is
the system.image.xz, why cant I compress the file? Please send aid if anyone can help thanks!
Using the rabbit r1 in its original state is like buying a car just to look at in the garage. Installing android actually makes use of the device, instead of only running a worse version of chat gpt and google lens
Heck yeah!!! I need anything to make this damn thing functional at all.
I tried this @howtomen ... but how did you get the camera to work? I can't!
Wait can you run the launcher via liniage? R1 gaslighting
this can actually be used as a cool vlogging camera this way
