It's great to see all the wheelie comments! I'm dropping a link below to a tutorial I did awhile back. Just remember, it takes some time to get this move down!! Have fun! th-cam.com/video/hwdrU6Ygv2E/w-d-xo.html
SUCH a fun day! It was so rad to work with you ladies and watch the progression happen in real time. I'm excited to see all the comments and positive feedback on the coaching cues. It's certainly difficult to teach both jumping and wheelies, but Rob and I both have a passion for trying to convey what we do and why. It's awesome to witness those "ah-ha" moments and see peoples confidence sky rocket. The Ride Series was born out of our desire to help people and translate what we've done on the bike for MANY years now. I hope to see all you Dusty Betty fans out at a Ride Series Skills Clinic soon!
Teaching the technical approach to riding skills has made this one of your best videos. Videos of locations and ride footage are always fun to see, but the lesson you just shared will help so many new riders achieve their dreams faster and safer. Well Done!
Wow, I needed to hear this. I bought a new bike recently and I have been really trying to learn how to wheelie. I still don't know the trick. But these pointers are phenomenal! Thanks for making this video. I really needed it. Stay upright and keep the rubber side down! -Brian
10 year old me could ride wheelies the whole length of my street without even thinking about it , the old crusty me has no balance now 😂 Nice job girls !
Hey there! It's certainly situationally dependent. The tactic here is to get people thinking more hips, legs, and heels down. The goal is to get people to have their arms straight and torso in line with the angle of the bike on takeoff. It's a long road to get comfortable jumping a bike. I've been doing it for 35 years and I still have moments where I get freaked out a bit.
Good to know! Definitely not a comfortable jumper. Life long dead sailor. Trying to get better. Also working on breaking my bar jerk to jump habit... can lead to disastrous results. Lol.
This is great. I look forward to trying out some clinics and women's rides as the weather cools here in Houston (cools, anything under 100 would be nice).
Fellow Zoic Amb here... Great tutorial as always Rich! Been biking for 25 years and I definitely learned something, don't think I've heard a better Jumping Tutorial. One thing I would comment on, which I didn't hear mentioned, is proper rebound set up when jumping. You can have the best technique in the world but if your suspension is set up wrong it will be counter-intuitive to progressing.
Awesome! This is inspiring and motivating me to work more to develop these skills despite some of the fear I feel when attempting them. I need a coach like Rich. I wanna be a badass Betty too! Thanks!
Great video. My jumping skills have sucked ass the last few years because I don’t relax anymore and I tend to absorb the lip by leaning forward. I like that everybody had a different approach to things because not one explanation will make sense to everyone. I liked how these skills were explained. Good job to both riders. They were improving and having fun.
Thumb up! You’re a great instructor. Focused, calm & motivating! I guess your training has kept a lot of beginners from braking their bones out in the woods. :) Wishing you much success!
11:57 I am so happy looking at this video at my home in Trinidad and Tobago that I am even crying seeing they are getting it! that means I will get it to.
Hi Rich, can you do a video on bunny hop? I watched tour jumps and wheeli video. They make so much smear but I can’t find a video on bunny of yours. Thank you!
mOejOe33 ,thanks for your input. Have been road biking for 30+ years but decided I wanted to see what all the fuss was about mountain biking. Also wanted to see the world from someplace besides the highways. I have found mountain biking to be totally different type of riding and use a whole different set of muscles. Being new to it makes me a little more cautious on technical stuff so I take a lot easier and keep my speed under my limits to avoid crashing and injuries. We old guys break a little easier I think even though I haven’t tested that idea. But as I like to say, “you don’t stop biking when you get old, you get old when you stop biking.”
Oh man. This guy is like the Mr. Miyagi of MTB. Interesting cues on the wheelie and really cool to see the jump progression. Was that pump track public or at his clinic location?
Rich is an awesome instructor as well as a awesome rider great vid I'm definitely going to take these techniques to the trail Thanks for sharing Tess!!!
This girls rock! and he coach is great too. How much does a lesson session cost? I can haul ass just racing straight, the only thing I can do on a bike is drop but I can't jump, wheelie, manual, 180, endo and all that. This girls learnt 2 most important bike tricks in just one afternoon.
This was great, one thing I can see is it wasn't mentioned directly, but looking forward and NOT at your front wheel makes all of these techniques work so much better. I could see tess was dropping her head as soon as the front wheel came up, looking forward maybe the only little change needed to wheelie like a #bikelife kid :) Thanks for including so much detail, I know a lot of coaches don't want to give away tips on the internet. I like his description for jumping, I'm definitely still doing a few of the things he mentions wrong, and have been trying to figure out what little tweaks I need to be more comfortable.
09:59 ... or the Left finger for those of us in other parts of the world (who followed the convention of motorbikes and don't want to kill ourselves when changing from one to the other and back again.
I do think there are some things that come with time, but it can be tough if you're using improper technique. Getting better at doing it wrong isn't the best route to take in my opinion.
Great video! But...., Why didn't he teach you the bunny hop movement and from there you can " pre-hop" , which is basically performing a bunny hop upon take off.... Good progression though 👍👍
Hey there Raheem! Thanks for the input. We've really tried to hone the way this technique is taught. We also normally use the ground school setting of The Ride Series Clinics and that makes it a bit easier to progress. The bunny hop method is another great way to go!
"he" says that it's basically the same, you just don't have the rear suspension to assist you. As a matter of fact, it's even more important to get into that athletic position and load into the face of the jump using your knees.
Does he mean arms straight as you pump into the lip? Seems like as you take off from the jump, you'd be bending your arms to let the front end come up, then straighten them back out as you push the bars forward. Am I right?

Hi Dusty Betty. I learned a lot on this tutorial videos. It's Amazing. This is true it is well said that u don't have to lift the bike it's just like the bike is connected to your body in a light manner. I feel it for many trials of lifts. Love it. I will always follow your channel. Ride safe. Lov u guys!!!
tsk tsk tsk. lol good luck Betty Tess. I've been trying to learn bunny hops and wheelies, after practicing every day for the past few months I just did my first actual bunny hop last week. Then I got like 10 in a row today woohoo! Still can't hold a wheelie for more than a couple seconds
Man this guy is awesome but sorry I CANNOT MANUAL ITS COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE, TO STAY AT THE BALANCE POINT IS IMPOSSIBLE ITS EITHER UP ↗️↗️↗️----- OR DOWN ↘️↘️↘️ , IVE GIVEN UP TRYING ITS IMPOSSIBLE

That was really well done! I learned a couple things.
Best video to learn new tricks without being intimidated. Thumbs up Tess!
Wow what a great coach and such a helpful video.
rich and rob are fantastic teachers. I highly recommend the ride series clinics!
true story, ive taken both classes and you WILL learn something no matter your current skill level
Thanks dude!! Rob and I are both excited to ramp it up for 2020 and do our best to make an impact on riders of all skill levels!
I checked and it looks like no clinics in the southwest in 2020:(
I used this jump technique and what a BIG difference. I plan on taking one of Drews course and this reinforces that.
It’s cool to see some of my favorite people that I follow working together!
I learn a lot from both of you!
I feel like I just got a free ride series lesson! Highly recommend the ride series with Rob and Rich! Great video Tess!
This was the best instruction for jumps I've seen. Loved learning to keep my hips over the pedals and pull back on the arms, not up.
Heck yeah Tess! Two of the most important takeaways from the video. Those two elements are KEY to successful jumping.
This is the best explanation for jumping and wheelies that I have heard or seen yet! Great job Dusty Betty!
Wow, I needed to hear this. I bought a new bike recently and I have been really trying to learn how to wheelie. I still don't know the trick. But these pointers are phenomenal! Thanks for making this video. I really needed it.

In 16mins, I learned quite a lot.
Great video!
Awesome to hear Steve!!
10 year old me could ride wheelies the whole length of my street without even thinking about it , the old crusty me has no balance now 😂 Nice job girls !
Rich is such an encouraging coach. I highly recommend his clinics!
Wow !! Definitely helped me conceptualize the mechanics of jumping
This video has inspired me to finally learn how to jump! I'm always so freaked out about going OTB but now I just think I need the right technique
That’s the first time I’ve heard to preload for a jump with legs only. Definitely going to try that.

Nice showcase of Rich’s coaching skills. I really got a lot out of The Ride Series here in PHX.
Thumb up! You’re a great instructor. Focused, calm & motivating!
I guess your training has kept a lot of beginners from braking their bones out in the woods. :)
Wishing you much success!
Thanks Musicsson! I'm certainly hoping The Ride Series has prevented some broken bones!
Big tip that applies to almost everything: Look further ahead.
One of the BEST tips Rick!!
You guys made it look so easy. Will be trying this myself.
11:57 I am so happy looking at this video at my home in Trinidad and Tobago
that I am even crying seeing they are getting it!
that means I will get it to.
Thank for the advice I am bad jumper and almost always crashing at the landing. Will try this technique.
I sure hope it helps out!
A lot to learn and practice here, Great video!
Haven't worked on my wheelie in awhile... those are great points to work on. Would love to wheelie so smooth and relaxed that him 🤘
Thanks Lex! Been doing it since I was seven, so I have a few years behind me. Tip is to stay relaxed and focus on technique, not power. You can do it!
Very cool video! lots of good tips in there! Love the wheelie part; i'm totally doing this wrong lol!
No joke.... I learned from this video. If it wasn't 1030pm I'd be Poppin wheelies!
Thanks DB
So rad Scott!! Can't wait to see those wheelies!
@@richdrewtherideseries thank you for the tips.... And the hips don't lie.
Hi Rich, can you do a video on bunny hop? I watched tour jumps and wheeli video. They make so much smear but I can’t find a video on bunny of yours. Thank you!
Really great video, thanks for sharing your clinic time with us. I want to start doing some jumps myself.
Great video and some great coaching! I need to get back to learning the wheelie ;-)
Heck yeah! Just focus on the basics of the wheelie and it will fall into place.
Such an awesome teacher, I've learned quite a lot
This was a good one ! thanks !!
Rob Drew getting called out by his brother! It's true though, Rob does make crazy stuff look super easy.
That's what little brothers are for! ;)
The wheelie advice is 100% solid. Practice what he says and that’s all ya need to know about that.
I need a coach like you! That was great for me. Can you teach a 70 year old new to mountain biking? Maybe I can make a trip to Bentonville.
mOejOe33 ,thanks for your input. Have been road biking for 30+ years but decided I wanted to see what all the fuss was about mountain biking. So cool! It's nice to see more girls on mtb ✌I'm struggling with wheelies myself. You have my sub!
Awesome vid, thanks.
Rich is an awesome instructor as well as a awesome rider great vid I'm definitely going to take these techniques to the trail Thanks for sharing Tess!!!

I'm not one to correct a much more skilled Drew, but DON'T watch the tree 😉 great viddy!
Excited to practice this! Dusty Betty, what brand of jersey are you wearing, I love it! Thanks!

Great video 👍
Practice practice you’ll get it great work👍
Seth's Bike Hacks did a whole video on Bentonville. It looks awesome
Do you travel to different places for the class or just in Bentonville?
Very informativ! Gonna try that right away

The truth is that everything comes over with time. If you ride enough, you’ll naturally make small tweaks and adjust to correct mistakes.
I do think there are some things that come with time, but it can be tough if you're using improper technique. Getting better at doing it wrong isn't the best route to take in my opinion.

Which Pivot bike is he riding? Is that a Mach 6 or 5.5?
Hey there! I'm on the FB29 in this video, but I have the M6, 5.5, and Switchblade as well.
American bunny hops help me sooo much with jumps
Boy that is a lot to hold in your brain. Good job!
Very nice vid. One additional thing that would have been helpful is if instructor was video’d in super slomo properly executing a jump.
What does he say if you have a hardtail?
"he" says that it's basically the same, you just don't have the rear suspension to assist you. As a matter of fact, it's even more important to get into that athletic position and load into the face of the jump using your knees.

Jumping and wheelies are so hard for me cause I’m so tall. These points might help
Tall isnt an excuse mate 😁😁
Way to go ladies!j
Dusty Betty! hello!!!
Hi Dusty Betty. I learned a lot on this tutorial videos. It's Amazing. Should have had them lower their seats learning to wheelie, it's much harder with the seat at pedaling height to start with
So Betty it's been a few months, is your wheelie perfected yet?
tsk tsk tsk. lol good luck Betty Tess.
I've been trying to learn bunny hops and wheelies, after practicing every day for the past few months I just did my first actual bunny hop last week. Then I got like 10 in a row today woohoo! Still can't hold a wheelie for more than a couple seconds
It's a bit easier to wheelie in 2nd or 3rd from easiest gear.
when i was learning always using 3rd gear to pop up the front wheel easier.
You should master bunny hops first then you can jump anything pretty easily
lower the seat and keep your head up looking forward for better wheelies

I'll take that as a compliment!
