    Donkeys are so sweet, good protectors on a farm, and don't cause much fuss if you know their personality quirks; I can't imagine simply abandoning one (same for horses--check your dang sanctuaries, don't just leave them to starve!). If I had the money, I'd totally own one or two. Good on these people for taking such good care of them.

    • @BigGrabowski
      @BigGrabowski ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@quinnfletcher3906 I think it's like comparing cats and dogs. Horses are better at following orders (if you train them), and donkeys are a little more independent. Humans don't generally like not being listened to, so they've characterized cats and donkeys as stubborn, selfish, (in cats) evil, or mean, where horses and dogs get words like "majestic" and "loyal". If one loses one's ego, there's so much more space for so many more animals.

    We had a horse that suffered from chronic bronchitis and other lung issues from the day he was born. On the day we were to say goodbye forever, and trying all types of medication, our vet said to try one way out treatment and with nothing to lose, we said, what the heck, and did what he suggested.
    The treatment was, GARLIC, fresh, not pre-packaged.
    Much to our delight, he was on his feet by morning, and the green snot that was always caked on his face and chest was very noticeably clearing up.
    From that moment on with big amounts of garlic chopped up in his feed twice a day and for the rest of his life, he never had a cold or lung infection again.
    We told everyone who had sick horses 🐎 about our story. There were a lot of doubting Tommy's, but they tried the garlic and they were happy with the results as well.
    Mind you, I don't think the vets were to happy, but I think deep down they were very pleased with the outcome for our beautiful gentle friend.
    Lucky passed away from old age, with us there to say our goodbye.
    Garlic is now used here in Western Australia and is very popular. Horses love the taste and it's cheap.
    Don't use it irregularly, but use as a preventative. You can't overdose.
    Hope this can help others treat their companions.
    Regards
    Cheryle

      Hi Megan, answer to your question, we just peeled the skin off the cloves, and chopped or put them into a blender. They may turn their lip up at first, but just rub the nostrils with your lovely smelling hands then they won't know the difference.
      Our lad really loved it, and went nose first to the bottom of his feed bucket hunting for the tasty bits.
      As far as how much to give, try about 6?cloves in a small feed. The amount is up to you and what the horse will tolerate. This amount suited our horse as he was big.
      I do believe some feed merchants have crushed garlic in sealed containers/plastic bags. This product came out long after our horse passed away
      I prefer buying fresh, as you know what you are getting. Don't buy the garlic if it is white, as these nobs have been bleached to make them better on the shelves.
      Good luck and I hope your horse will enjoy his new treat.

    • @mokko759
      @mokko759 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Justjim_2924 Don't give cats garlic/onions/anything in the allium family of plants. It causes anemia and other blood clotting disorders in cats, dogs and many other animals. It can cause anemia in horses too but they would have to be eating like a kilo of garlic daily for that to happen. Recommended dose for horses is only a few cloves/day. You CAN overdose garlic in horses.
      Since cats are so much smaller than horses, garlic's negative effects are much more serious even when given smaller amounts. Just don't give cats garlic.

He was very congested, sneezing blood, eye and ear infection,appeared to be partially or fully deaf either from all the infections or born that way and just a mess. Even still he was extremely friendly and never acted like he felt sick. We kept giving him antibiotics and taking him to the vet with not much success. When we took him in to get neutered they ended up flushing his nose out while he was under. They said the stuff that came out was so gross one of the techs had to leave the room.

    As someone who has suffered with chronic sinusitis for most of my life, I feel for this sweet girl. And when I have it really bad, there are abslutely times I iwsh I could just drill a hole into my sinus and get some relief. Unfortunately, that isn't a thing they do in people so far as I know.

    • @starburst98

      They probably COULD install some titanium retainer rings into there to let keep it open. But you would have to convince them it is a good idea.

    • @thebiggestpanda1
      @thebiggestpanda1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They absolutely do sometimes go in and enlarge the opening to the sinus that’s causing problems and manually remove any mucus with suction. They drill the hole inside your nose so it’s not cosmetically distracting.
