Canon has started figuring out how to make a mirrorless camera, and Sony has started figuring out how to make a menu. What amazing times we live in.

BullFrog I think once canon comes out with lower bit rates and crop modes, it’ll get better for video, but for stills it’s the best there is r5

    • @boostfrog
      @boostfrog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@marioslrzn It'll help to an extent, but at the end of the day I think Sony will still stay on top for video. Myself, I'm going for an R6 to finally replace my 7DMKII for stills. The R5 and R6 are going to be the best stills cameras around in their price points, but these days video is equally important for sales, and theres no denying Canon screwed that up chasing after the 8k gimmick.

For sure - and they it is even better they have different views of the market. Canon is going after the hybrid shooter market and Sony is trying to target specific style shooters. Either way we win - there is something for everyone.

raz3000, and it was the consumer segment that was keeping camera companies alive. Sure there are more professional cameras coming out but less people buying them so prosumer/professional cameras went up 5% in price just help make up some of the loss. People just aren’t buying cameras as much anymore and those of us who do we are skipping generations before we upgrade.
“There were 100 million digital cameras shipped in the iPhone’s first year. By 2018, the digital camera market had declined by roughly 80%, to 19 million. Of Japan’s eight digital camera makers, the only one to log sales and profit growth in the most recent annual period through March 31 was Sony, and it was not due to gangbuster camera sales, but rather, the steps Sony took to wedge its technology inside the smartphone market.”
“The history of photography began with silver collidium daguerreotypes and it was a rich man’s game,” said Damian Thong, an analyst at Macquarie Group. “What we’ve seen with smartphones is the democratization of picture-taking. Today there are literally 5 billion smartphones in adult hands and we can take photos anywhere. In the future, the camera won’t go away but it will become a niche market again.”
      “Fuji and the nostalgia market
Known as cheki in Japan, these retro snapshots have been popular for decades and are an example of how Japan’s camera companies have tried to innovate amid big technological and marketplace changes.
*** “The company sold 10 million instax units in the year to March 31, 2019. That’s more than half of the 19 million units in total digital camera shipments for 2018 logged by the Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA).”

The only downside to this being a 4K-only camera is that you can't punch in, reframe, and still deliver in full 4K. But considering the overheating issues with the R5, I think that's a reasonable tradeoff.
If there's one thing I have learned from Jordan, it's that you can make videos that are more than good enough for TH-cam on just about any camera available today. Focus your attention instead on lighting, stabilization, lenses, and focus.
I do think Canon is going to come out with their own XLR adapter or make one of their handles from a pro camcorder compatible with the R5 and R6.

Screw Sony! I had A7R4, RX100VII, and a bunch of those tough G memory cards, Sony has treated me like trash. They make cool stuff but I would never buy another Sony product. The A7R4 I got some G-Master glass and my 24-70 had spots in the images I checked the sensor and nothing it was clean, turns out a brand new lens had dust between the elements... my RX100VII had a dead pixel on the screen literally I called Sony 2 minutes after I turned it on and the only option they gave me was to send it to a repair center and 3-4 weeks to get it back. So my brand new RX100 has been worked on. Lastly my memory cards, Sony issued a recall on some of the Tough G SD cards and 6 out of the 8 that I had were affected, I called and got authorization to send them in. Here we are nearly 2 months later, I still don’t have my memory cards, that over $1000 in memory cards. I have nothing. Screw Sony, I’ve been in touch with their customer service department and they have given me the runaround and the reasons have changed every time.

Ensian Blåfugl I sent my A7R4 off for trade in a few weeks ago along with my 24-70 and 70-200 G-Master 2.8. Obviously I think I’m going to need new memory cards, so I’m not making that mistake again and buying Sony. It’s bad enough they had to recall their cards but to screw up getting me replacement cards. I’m so sick of it, I got my A7R4 December 2019 and with the lens issues I didn’t even get to use it for almost a month. At that point I was mostly over it then the memory card issue hit and I am so glad Sony is gone from my life. I don’t mind problems, but treat me like a customer that has dumped nearly $10,000 into your brand.

As a solo, and retired, TH-cam shooter, the Sony's AF outweighs the features of the Panasonic offerings. The Canon R5 just isn't comparable for video. Of course for a TH-camr, that makes very little money from the channel, it would be totally unreasonable to consider this camera at all. 12 MP is fine for many photographic situations. It's not what I would want for wildlife or outdoor sports where, no matter how much zoom I have, I always want to crop in more.
If you're making huge prints all the time, this is not the camera for you either. But it can still print decently large sizes up to about A3 at 300 dpi if you don't crop.
But, for just about everything else, it's more than adequate. The extra dynamic range can help with photography just as much as video.

When Jordan mentioned the leaner types during interviews it reminded me of this one scene in a 30 for 30 documentary, I think it was the Lakers/Celtics one, where Magic would lean in constantly in his segments and the camera would just lose the focus every time. Must’ve been a pain in the ass to film that lol.

Agree. Maybe Chris is walking like an idiot and you walk a lot better. You actually change how you move when you do a lot of video, so a photographer unused to video would not demonstrate IS at its best. But Panasonic has been regarded king of video IBIS so perhaps your G80 would handle it better.
