The cost of the house (and land) translates to roughly $1.1M in early 2023. The cost of the racquetball building in 1975 would also translate to $1.1M in early 2023.
I had no idea that I would be so emotionally touched when I came out of that house. Especially his twin brothers grave that died at birth. I was in tears and I was never a big Elvis fan. I was after that
If I was Elvis, I too would be extremely homesick for Graceland. Hands down, the place is paradise! He might have only lived 42 years, but half of his life was there. Even I would sacrifice years just to live there too!
@@josegalvan775 I'll never understand why Elvis never went to a different manager. He probably would be alive still and have had an even bigger career.
I’ve never seen his house and my place looks so much like this, a small Graceland. I also feel I’m so much like him. He was so radical, courageous and fun.
I really enjoyed the tour-brings a tear to my eye. All he wanted to do is entertain and be loved. The new Elvis movie is Incredible. Really shows his sensitive side. Big fan
Me too Allan. I am a life long fan. Elvis died way too young. I am older so I am seeing many of my heros leave us. This brought a tear to my eye as well. He was a magnetic person. For some reason God gave Elvis 10 times the charisma of a normal person. He spent his entire life trying to figure out why, and how to deal with it. He was a phenomenon in the 70's

I had so much fun going on this tour on TH-cam. Priceless plus it's not like I'd ever be in Graceland anytime soon. Thank you Elvis being kind, loving and such a giving man. This is why your Legend lives on and your records keep selling. Though I was a child ..... I love your music just like millions of others!💓😇💓🙏💓
I was there in the 80s with a former friend of the family. She took a video of me talking with Elvis' uncle Vester. Almost like an interview. I still have the video. He LOVED to talk and had quite the Memphis accent. Sweet man. He passed away 2-3 years after Elvis. It was pretty amazing to be standing there actually talking to a relative of Elvis'. Afterwards, on to Nashville.
I have been to Graceland 3 times and took family and friends. It is not exactly like in was back then in 1977 and 1978. For one thing the piano in the living room area was plated in gold and was given to Elvis by Priscilla. I didn't see it on this tour. I was surprised the tour did not show the other rooms that is seen on the tour we went on. I did enjoy the tour here though and am a life long Elvis fan. I met him in 1956 and spent 3 hours with him when I was only 14. He was appearing along with others at the FT HOMER HESTERLY ARMORY in Tampa, FL. Elvis was just getting started with his career and was appearing with a lot of other singers that day and had to wait outside in a fenced area until it was his time to perform. He had that special magic some people have and it was great meeting him. He was very shy and definitely a southern gentlemen. Loved his voice and him. You just felt like he was part of the family. Like so many other people I was devastated when he passed.

A lot of people do not know that to get to Graceland you have to ride through the hood. It's funny to see tourists walk down Elvis Presley Blvd like what the hell. Lol
Charles Cummings that’s what I like about it. Elvis didn’t mind that the hood was not far away. He wasn’t ignorant to the plight of poor Black people he grew up poor too and grew up eating the same type of food Black folk ate. It’s just a shame he died the way he did
We toured Graceland about 2 years ago and enjoyed it very much. We opted to go with iPad and Earphone tour and it was nice....a lot of information for each room. However, you kinda get tired of listening and wearing the earphones though and after a while, we just stopped and looked. You can go at your own pace too. I know they have reasons for not letting the public visit the upstairs and some of the other rooms, but those were the one's I wanted to see the most. A lot of places have that though....like castles in Europe and the Biltmore House in Asheville. Not sure anyone is interested in Memphis other than seeing Graceland, but we also got the tour for Beal Street and the downtown area, Sun Records and more. The tickets included Graceland and was a good price, even included our lunch. While there we also went to the Bass Pro Shop! I have to tell you, I have never seen one store that big and so very beautiful and interesting. I would go back to Memphis just to visit it again. If you are there, take a look, you won't be disappointed. We had a great trip to Memphis and I would love to do it all over again. Hope anyone that goes has a great time.

I sure thought so, my daughter Jahzara loves Elvis, she's 3 next Friday and wants a pink Elvis cake and balloon for her birthday, no clothes no toys just a balloon and some cake.
+Megan McNasby My father was from Liverpool and though he certainly liked the Beatles, Elvis was the performer who made the biggest impact on him. On August 16, 1977 my dad had gone out to a mall and bought the Moody Blue album and when he got in the car to drive home he turned on the radio and they were announcing that Elvis had died. I was only ten years old and was spending the month of August with my mom at my grandparent's cottage and my dad called us that night and was really taking the news very hard. That evening, I watched the network affiliate from Watertown NY carrying live coverage of the white limousine procession from Graceland. Then, as a kind of tribute I got an old acoustic guitar that had belonged to my grandmother's brother who had died in world war 2 and I put on an Elvis' greatest hits album we had at the cottage and I would strum along to parts of some of the songs. When I got home from the cottage and back to our house, my dad had bought a couple of Elvis posters and put them up on the wall. It was, and still is so sad that he left his family and all of us so soon. God bless you Elvis.
There was so much of the house -- downstairs -- that was not shown in this video. Elvis kept adding to the house & property ... and the house took on somewhat of an odd layout, but with very cool rooms.
One has to wonder how much of this Elvis would have changed if he had lived longer. Now we have a fantastic slice of 70s style and decor preserved forever, hopefully. My favourite room in this place is his kitchen actually, though the jungle room/den is pretty awesome too. I also, absolutely, love the stain glass in the entrance going into his music room. Not crazy about the white furnishings, but that's because of how much it's overdone today. My Best. Out.
Did you notice the kitchen had yellow formica counters? Now-a-days formica is kind of frowned on, in favor of granite or quartz, but I guess in 1975 it was the "thing" to have.
@@josephgaviota : That kitchen is one of the warmest, most inviting, kitchens I've ever seen. I could spend months there, I think, and never get bored. My Retro/Vintage Best. Out.
😂🤣😂🤣same.Middle of the day went to fill up my car up opposite next to where his plane was parked up and you had to pay first. Also hatch service only ,door was locked.
I wish they had shown the kitchen. Elvis and I own the same dishwasher, a 1974 Kitchen aid Superba by Hobart. I have visited Graceland many times and it is well worth the trip. It is much bigger now with the expansion across the street.
I like to hear from those who were actually in the house who have first hand knowledge of the time back then would be interesting to hear There stories
Why are people knocking the poor tour guide so much? I thought she did a good job; some of the questions he asked weren't really typical questions that a tour guide would need to know. Please remember that some of us develop an interest and knowledge that goes beyond what they typical Graceland visitor possesses. Therefore, the tour guide's knowledge would usually be sufficient for the responsibilities she has. It's like JFK fans...the minutiae some of them have is incredible, and a little worrisome. :)
I love vintage, old houses like these, and places like these should stay as they were in their heyday, I hate houses like these getting renovated and destroyed, and just made into modern crap houses.
Old lol not even remotely old. Here there are houses 800 years to 1,000 years old. Most of the original parts are gone of course. My house is 90 years old.
Thank goodness for these videos....they save me alot of money in travelling expenses and admission fees. While I liked Elvis's early RCA hits (still do) I don't idolize the guy. He was just a man who put his pants on the same way I do. But when it came to singing no one could touch him. He entertained millions with his TV shows and concerts. I saw him in Miami once......great concert.....can't remember if he was doing his goofy karate moves then. He had a unique life that's for sure but I could not stand having all those guys hanging around 24 hours a day and people constantly asking for autographs and snapping pictures. That would drive me crazy. Same for the Beatles only it was 4 times worse !! Wouldn't it have been a hoot if Elvis and The Beatles had recorded together......singing each other's hits? That would have been something.
2:45 - Elvis bought Graceland in 1957 for $102,500. In 2022, that would be $1,080,722.06, if anyone was curious like I was 6:37 - It cost him $200,000 to build this building in 1975. That equates to $1,101,397.77 in 2022 8:52 - Elvis bought his 1958 Convair 880 in April 1975 for $250,000 and spent $800,000 customizing it. ELVIS PRESLEY was the most loved a missed person that died since 1977,,,,,He use to say when I'm gone Joe. This world will never be the same neither will music.
Elvis is a distant cousin..we share the same great great grandmother..who was a Cherokee Princess named Morning Dove. As a young boy his aunt and uncle babysat my sister and I...Vernon Presleys birthplace is 30 minute drive.
Ive been to Graceland a bunch of times, and Im looking forward to going again. But I dont recommend anyone joining the Elvis Insiders club. I sent in my membership dues, they recieved it, but for some unknown reason, I dont have access to the site. After about 3 or 4 phone calls, and about a dozen emails, Im giving up. But that dont change that Im an Elvis fan LLTK
This mansion is a wonderful time capsule. Yes, the styling and decor might seem "dated", but that is the whole point. Keep it real, not "updated." It's a genuine experience.

It was, and still is so sad that he left his family and all of us so soon. God bless you Elvis.
i agree 100% Megan, she did a great job, very pleasant & cute too :)
Why can't we go upstairs and pay our respects at the "throne" where the King died?
I loved his jungle Room. it was so strange unique a mysterious a spirtural alot like Elvis Presley himself. ELVIS was really Something Else
So basically Elvis invented the man cave.
Sure is.

To each his own. I thought it was tacky.
Elvis had "unique" taste in home decor for sure......kinda surprised he didn't have the whole interior painted pink with black trim.
I was 17 in 1988 and was my first visit to Memphis from the UK with the Elvisly Yours fan club.
Looks amazing would love to visit Graceland one day
Ruby Welch What are you waiting for?
Love love Memphis!!! Visited last year did Graceland and everything amazing!!!!
I really loved how you put the volume on the intro music to cause my speakers to almost blow out, thanks.
I skipped that part.
Maybe you should turn your speakers down then to start off with
Wow!! I need to visit oneday! That was beautiful and love the tour host!
There was so much of the house -- downstairs -- that was not shown in this video. Elvis kept adding to the house & property ... and the house took on somewhat of an odd layout, but with very cool rooms.
I have been to Graceland, beautiful place. Long live the King.
Out.
Elvis is my lifelong hero (I'm 63) and I've been to Memphis several times, but for some reason I never got around to visiting Graceland.
The bronze storm door and peacock glass were installed around 1975.
Amazing place, the music the people the food,, all top notch.. would recommend it 100%
the food in Memphis was INCREDIBLE. the hotel even had "angel wing" pancakes that were the best I've ever eaten. every restaurant meal was phenomenal.
elvis was enter in rock and pop and sundcask hall of fame on jaly 27 1977 he was best singer
Wish we could see the red version of Graceland, how it really looked in 77 when he passed.
Great Tour. I haven't been there in 35 years. Back then the neighborhood right down the street was terrifying
City of Memphis might want to build a wall around Graceland in case the natives get restless and decide to loot the place one day.
😂🤣😂🤣same.Middle of the day went to fill up my car up opposite next to where his plane was parked up and you had to pay first. Also hatch service only ,door was locked.
I love the peacock glass windows
Originally there were glass block windows in place and they were removed around 1975 and the peacock glass installed.
I would have loved to know how much they cost.
Not so sure. Rather tacky.
@@1940limited I'm excited to see when we walk through your mansion, how it's decorated.
Beautiful house, Time Capsule.
I wish they had shown the kitchen. Elvis and I own the same dishwasher, a 1974 Kitchen aid Superba by Hobart. I have visited Graceland many times and it is well worth the trip. It is much bigger now with the expansion across the street.
I would love to see it in person.
@Lance Rattie But to be fair you literally aren't making sense..
@Lance Rattie It's not nice to speak ill of the dead.
One day it'll happen to you.
Lance Rattie youre cringe asfuckk
@Lance Rattie It must be terrible being a liberal, and all that negativity to carry around.
Was there in "85", "97" and I wish I could go back one more time.
I like to hear from those who were actually in the house who have first hand knowledge of the time back then would be interesting to hear There stories
Most are dead. So read their books.
I went there last week and took a gold sink handle home as a souvenir. Elvis didn't need it anymore.😊
Been there once when we we’re going thru Memphis. Stuck in the 70’s for sure. I remember the jungle room. Sad place really.
Loved the tour I was an. Elvis Presley fan too.
Sick! I'd love to go see Graceland one day
Same!!!!
Wow thank you. So well done n informative. One of the best I've seen on Graceland.
Gary Taylor Met her on the tour, she’s very personable and knowledgeable and a Grizzly fan.
I think she did a great job, bravo!
@@bobobanana5752 kiss ass! You just want to see those big jugs she's rockin

Haha how many had to look at that word up you'll never admit William, I did bwahahahaha
Elvis was a unique person and kind hearted, the house was cosy but seeing makes you feel sad he once live there a real person now gone.
Now days its more like a museum than a house.
Love ❤ Graceland,my favourite room was the Den ❤️
I can't help it momma!!!!...its the den...thank ya..thank ya very much 😀👍🇺🇸
Very enjoyable. Thanks
You did a very good job. Thank you.
Very nice thank you for sharing
I love vintage, old houses like these, and places like these should stay as they were in their heyday, I hate houses like these getting renovated and destroyed, and just made into modern crap houses.
Old lol not even remotely old. Here there are houses 800 years to 1,000 years old. Most of the original parts are gone of course. My house is 90 years old.
@@Mulberry2000 yeh, my grandad and dad's previous hosue was made in 1922 and still is here even though not ours any more here in uk.
Good job with the tour!
Elvis was a great singer and great man for America. Just think about his influence today if he was still alive.
Wow if I had the money I would love to visit one day 😃🙏
Thank goodness for these videos....they save me alot of money in travelling expenses and admission fees.
In 2022, that would be $1,080,722.06, if anyone was curious like I was
6:37 - It cost him $200,000 to build this building in 1975. That equates to $1,101,397.77 in 2022
8:52 - Elvis bought his 1958 Convair 880 in April 1975 for $250,000 and spent $800,000 customizing it. In 2022, that purchase is equal to $1,376,747.21 and the customization is equal to $4,405,591.08
Cant wait....we're going to the Bendigo display tomorrow
ELVIS PRESLEY was the most loved a missed person that died since 1977,,,,,He use to say when I'm gone Joe. This world will never be the same neither will music.
Great video!
This is a place I would like to visit someday
Nice to see his mother's pink Cadillac still survives.
Adorei a visita , muito bom mesmo. Abraços do Brasil.
Great informative video. Funny ending with the presenter stood hands in pockets 🙂
Elvis is still alive. I saw him on a mountain in Canada cutting wood.
Elvis is a distant cousin..we share the same great great grandmother..who was a Cherokee Princess named Morning Dove. As a young boy his aunt and uncle babysat my sister and I...Vernon Presleys birthplace is 30 minute drive.
Ah, yes, such a small world. Elvis's former mail carrier was my third cousin's ex-wife's best friend's brother-in-law!
But that dont change that Im an Elvis fan LLTK
loved our visit to graceland
This mansion is a wonderful time capsule. Yes, the styling and decor might seem "dated", but that is the whole point. Keep it real, not "updated." It's a genuine experience.
